Prosthetics + Assistive Technologies Makeathon for Veterans
From the Creator of this series:
“Greetings! We would be honored to have you participate in a makeathon event to support the development of prosthetics + assistive technologies for our nation’s Veterans on July 28th and 29th! The VA Innovation Creation Series is culminating in a 2-day makeathon at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia! At this makeathon event, we will highlight specific challenges facing our Veterans surrounding prosthetics + assistive technologies. Participants will then have the opportunity to pitch or present different problems or painpoints impacting differently-abled Veterans. Based on the pitches, teams will form and we will provide prototyping equipment along with mentorship support from Veterans and technical experts to help you co-design and develop your ideas to ultimately demo on the afternoon of July 29th. Participants will have the opportunity to win up to $30,000 in cash prizes from Google.org at the event! We highly encourage VA employees to participate, but unfortunately you cannot officially win prize money. You will be recognized as part of the winning team.” You can sign up for the makeathon event here! Deadline to sign-up is July 21st – the complimentary tickets are going fast! This event is jointly lead by the Assistive Technology Program at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, the VA Center for Innovation, and The Girls Lounge!”
