Harringrove (or steddie) secret relationship fanfic but it doesn't go the way you think...

Steve Harrington is afraid to get his heart broken again after Nancy. He falls in love hard and fast with Billy/Eddie and it was completely unexpected but perfect. Almost too good to be true. Steve hasn't never felt more loved until it was gone. He didn't tell anyone about it, not even Robin. Because it was too good to be true. And the party think he's hooked up with everyone in Hawkins anyway. But also because he's dead. And he feels like he doesn't deserve to grieve. He never got to say 'I love you' back.

Then in an alternative Season 5 they've just finished a crawl. Everyone is as snappy as usual, Dustin's still ignoring him, everything is going to shit. Steve's not having a good time. But somebody followed Hopper back home. It's a tearful reunion, and nobody has ever seen Steve cry before until today. And everything they thought they knew about Steve and him were wrong.

Everyone is mad at Steve at first, but Steve grew up in the household where communication didn't happen, emotionally closed off / distant parents in Hawkins of all places. And pretend that everything was fine... Grief manifests in different ways. And we see how Steve deals with grief in season 5, which would line up with this headcanon. Someone write this please 🙏

Alternative stranger things ending for Steve Harrington... Steve Harrington falls off the tower but survives. Maybe he's paralysed or maybe he's been impaled by his own spear through the eye. He's bleading out from not nearly quick enough for the end of the world. He drags himself away from the tower, not particularly interested in being crushed to death by debris. Vecna is killed and they still escape but El chooses not to sacrifice herself when she realises how much her family actually love her (and can say it back) and watching the rage and grief they have over Steve's death make her realise this.) So they blow it up.

Steve isn't strong enough to call out for help. He suffers until the very end, alone (just like barb) and he's the last victim of the Upside down.

Then something picks him up. Vampire Eddie Munson? And Kali? They're not able to make it to the gate with Kali using the last of her energy to fake El's death. None of them really expect to survive in the abyss but they don't deserve to die alone. But they don't die. And we get the most epic trio ever in an apocalypse au / alternative universe??? Does the abyss transform because for all we know about the upside down transforming into 1983 hawkins so why would it not change to the hosts desire? So much opportunity to explore that.

Dudes. Please. HOW is it that not ONE person, as far as I can tell by a quick scroll through a YouTube search, has made an animatic for the first time Steve and Bucky lock eyes in TWS (you know the scene, the shield catch scene, that scene) with the song "I Know Those Eyes/This Man Is Dead" from The Count of Monte Cristo. I'll put the song here so you can listen to it if you don't know it, but I'll tell you now I sent this song to my friend who knows the scene and all the Marvel films (quick disclaimer: my latest film seen as of rn is Ant-Man, so pls no Civil War spoilers bc I'm gonna watch that with them next week) and they came back saying that this song fits so well with that moment (and realistically the whole vibe between Bucky and Steve for the rest of the film).

Literally on rewatching TWS the other day, got to that scene and immediately said to myself (as if I was Steve, the usual kinda thing) "I know those eyes, this man is dead" and then I went and listened to this song bc I knew it existed but hadn't heard it in YEARS and then I got suckerpunched in the feels bc holy fuck does it describe them so fucking perfectly.

So. Animators. Please, oh please, I beg of thee: make an animatic to this. I also love the idea of interpretive dance or ice dancing/ice skate dancing (whatever it's called, that one) being done to this song, and while the voices are Mercedes and Dantes, the dancers are dressed as Steve and Bucky respectively.

(btw, if anyone knows of an animatic or smth similar of this song being used for a stucky thing, pls send it to me, I crave this like I crave water and air to live and I don't have the drawing talent for it)

My version of stranger things finale goes like this....

Instead of the black hole theory, it's actually a time sphere. Eg. DARK series for reference. When Nancy shoots it, there is a ripple in time that causes a displacement and gives Vecna the opportunity to create the conformity gate theory.

So friends, let's use this opportunity to make those awesome alternative reality fanfics 😈

Eg. After Steve and Dustin fight and Nancy shoots the sphere, Steve makes it to the top and gets displaced in a different reality. He finds himself in the upside down, or another version of it, and eventually finds his way out to the right side up. In this reality, Eddie Munson OR Billy Hargrove, survived their fates and the Steve Harrington from this world died. Their fates are SWAPPED. Someone write this fic.
