Tube fingers “Shut up tube fingers!” (My best friend.) “Your fingers are just tubes.” --This is his idea of a roast.
There is a chair in my room facing my bed. Sometimes, early in the morning, a spirit man sits in that chair. He and I discuss matters, plan things, and create appointments. Hard as I try, I can never remember what we converse about -- but I know we converse, and I can remember him clear as day. I got up and kissed him good-bye once. (He reacted with awkward surprise.) He’s not of any notable appearance. His voice isn’t ghostly or booming. He’s just a guy, and we talk about... things. Stuff. I truly can’t remember. My Atheist Nihilist lover lay beside me night after night. Snoring right through my conversations with the spirit man. The last time the spirit man ever visited me, I was going about my usual business, chatting with him about this and that. His words were just fading from my memory when I looked over and noticed that my lover was wide awake! He was staring at the chair. And then he turned to me with the biggest, silliest grin on his face and a most mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes. He reached out and rubbed my arm ever so softly, and said: “You know that man’s not coming back... Right?” “Yeah.” I responded drowsily, and groggily. He just stared at me, waiting for it to sink in. “Wait... Wait a minute... HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MAN?” He smiled wider than I’ve ever seen and winked at me. The realization of what had just happened hit me like a bullet. I was so shell shocked that I couldn’t even move or blink. He gave my arm a soft squeeze and turned over, instantly back in deep slumber, snoring. I sat, wide awake, waiting for him to wake up for real so we could talk about it. I asked him if it was real. “Well, I remember waking up and saying stuff to you. But I don’t know what I said. Probably just sleep babble. I don’t remember anything about a man... Wait... no, just a dream I guess“ : His response in its entirety. The spirit man has not returned.
