Desperately Seeking Movies: Superman (2025)
Welcome back to my movie reviews. Today's movie is the buzz on everybody's head, good or bad, Superman. I'm already a sucker for hero movies, even though I usually end up hating them. Not Superman though. In fact, it's became one of my favorite movies. It gets the DVD release medal of honor. (Because i hate streaming sites and yearn to own everything on a physical copy)
Superman needs no introduction I'm sure, so the synopsis so I just kind of am quoting the original one "When Superman gets drawn into conflicts at home and abroad, his actions are questioned, giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor the opportunity to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good. Will intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman's four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help him before it's too late?"
The Rating
Superman is absolutely a 5/5, If you ever find me rating a movie a 3/5 and below, I have truly lost it though. It's just overall amazing, I truly couldn't even do it justice with my review without major spoilers, and I REFUSE to spoil it.
The Review
This is absolutely one of my favorite movies. The thing that James Gunn does well is that unlike what's been the trend for superhero movies, they're either trying to be too serious, and have 0 humor, or they're too comedic and don't take themselves seriously at all. Superman has reached a perfect balance of humor, and serious moments. It also draws attention to what Superman stands for, a guy who at his core, wants to protect every single life, even if it's deemed insignificant. My issue with superhero movies is often the deaths of characters are disregarded, never acknowledged, unless it's to better the plot. Superman treats it with the seriousness that a death should be, that it's not irrelevant because this character doesn't serve purpose. At it's core, it's a fuck you to the state of the world, that Superman wouldn't want to be associated or supported by those who are okay with countless deaths being ignored, immigrants being treated like they're not even humans and don't deserve rights, war in general, but especially for financial gain, and that the best thing, the most punk thing you can do, is to be a kind person, to love every living thing, and protect what youĀ can.
I'm also obsessed with the dynamic between Lois and Superman, sometimes I feel they're portrayed the same way as Spiderman and MJ, which is that they're hopelessly in love, and there's never any issues ever, because you can't have one without the other. And while I agree that a Superman without Lois is wrong, I dont agree that they should be this perfect flawless couple, and I'm glad that they didnt let them! They have an argument, they get over it stronger then before. It's amazing, truly, it's such a breath of fresh air for superhero movies.
he was feeling so cutesy that day

Desperately Seeking Movies: Electric Dreams (1984)
Firstly, for my friends who remember the bad movie review. shes back, but now on tumblr, and just any movie, but mainly 80s and 90s.
Electric Dreams is a mostly forgotten (i only found out because i follow my friend @neuronygma 's letterboxd lol) movie about a computer that grows sentience, and falls in love with the neighbor of our MC, Miles. Miles also falls in love with the Madeline, the neighbor and it sparks this odd love triangle between them.
The Rating
I rate this a 4.5/5. I thought it was cute and a bit odd, which is really just my general vibe in life honestly. It also brings a weird moment of prediction about AI generated art (I.E Miles asks Madeline in one scene how she feels about computer generated art, which she replies "What's wrong with artists?") But genuinely, its just such a oddly romantic movie, and i really really enjoyed it.
Anyways, thats all for this movie, and I'll see y'all with the next review <3
hey my friend's a total geek freek for the 80s and does film reviews (again). go follow him!
