The projects that I end up doing, that I want to be involved with in any way, have always been projects that will be impactful, for the most part, to my people — to black people. To see black people in ways which you have not seen them before. So Black Panther was on my radar, and in my dreams.

i believe lana when she says that she's "not not a feminist". i really do. there wasn't an ounce of respect for all the women she name dropped, who btw, all (except one) happen to be woc. these are women who face racism and violence based on their skin colour on top of the misogyny these women already face. when she describes the work of these woc as being inspired by "fucking, cheating" and immediately contrasts it with herself by "being embodied, feeling beautiful"..... and after reading this, your immediate response to ppl offended by that is "oh it's a coincidence" or "you don't get what she's trying to say" or "you're too sensitive and taking her words out of context".... then i'm sorry but you're wrong. yes, how she worded that letter does matter. these women were not hurting anybody by singing their experiences. and they sure as hell weren't speaking over her. the sexual empowerment of these artists and lana's femininity aren't mutually exclusive things. and for lana to call out these women individually to defend her "type" of femininity or women who "look and act like her"... is both petty and misdirected.
