still thinking about this and what it implies about their dynamic in the middle seasons... somewhere in between the period of them leaving the gay stuff mutually unspoken and the period after mac came out was This. of course dennis was getting a thrill out of pushing mac as far as he could and playing with his guilt. of course he was actively seducing and then gaslighting him to see how it fucks with his head. something about dennis's habit of "testing the tensile strength of a crow's neck." yes things got weird after mac came out because it suddenly got too real for dennis but there's also this added layer of him missing this Very Particular game that was not only getting him off for years but also supplying him the sense of control he's always chasing. and mind you all of this was happening while dennis was shamelessly enticed by the same pen, just using the thrill of the game to disguise it internally. and of course he attempted to go back to that game now that their dynamic finally settled back to how it used to be.
