Wave's fate and transformations in Cinderella Boy
Disclaimer: this is a very inconsistent theory. I have lots of things to say but right now I'm struggling to properly find the words for it. This is all over the place and isn't exactly edited, so my apologies. Just lots of speculation and observations with a little bit of evidence.
After the most recent episode, the fear that Wave is just a disguise of the Old Man just becomes more real. Admittedly not by a lot when it comes to evidence, but there are still bits and pieces that fit a tad well together. Not TOO well, but certainly a little more than I'd like them to.
"Told him maybe he should try it himself" DON'T EVEN JOKE LAD 💔💔💔 because the old man WOULD bring the info himself if he was able to, and he sure as hell COULD find a way, if the situation really did require it.
Anyway, this is just part of the theory that the Old Man is bringing information himself, while temporarily transforming into Wave somehow.
Now, what could that mean for Wave? Assuming that he actually exists and isn't just a made up disguise that we see through other people's POV, that is. If the Old Man could just use transform into him and use his appearance to get his way, that must mean that he has no other use of him anymore, even if he's a piece of shit just like him. And Wave did say that he can afford to make people disappear.
The question is (in the case all of this is true), could that mean that Wave might be already dead? If he can't be used for anything more?
Well, I personally think that would be a stretch, given that the comic is rated for all ages, but at the same time I keep seeing parallels I don't like. Specifically between Wave and the Sin Eater from Stagtown, Punko's other webcomic.

All of it could just be a coincidence, solely because they're both written by Punko. And in case you don't know what happened to that sin eater, there's that:
Kinda familiar, no? The Old Man definitely tried to pursue Wave with money and words and Wave did appear to be hesitant about accepting, or at least that's what we were shown.
But then again, we literally don't know if ANYTHING of what we saw in his flashbacks, in the grand library or heard Wave say can be trusted. He could be just lying, he could be saying half truths or literally anything else and we still don't know what to believe!! Because okay, we know he's a villain, but is he just bad for the sake of being bad? Is there actually family he needs to help? Who the fuck even is Wave?
Either way, no matter if he's dead, a liar or just an asshole, I think the idea of the Old Man transforming to Wave wouldn't be TOO MUCH of a stretch.
I've had that realisation very recently while talking to my twin, but transformation is a VERY present theme in the second season of Cinderella Boy. It's referenced many times in the whole comic (the comic is literally tagged #body swap too), but especially in season 2 it's referenced in ALMOST EVERY arc. It's not just implied behind the scenes, but we are actually shown cases of transformations very often.
1. Party Crashers> everybody transforms into cats. (Deacon is freaking out about it for a couple of eps, so it might not be there just for laughs, but as part of a pattern.)
2. Mr Mischief> Violet transformed Buddy's hair into white. (He's freaking out about it a lot in the arc too.)
3. Little Shadows> Violet transformed Buddy into a literal mermaid by giving him a real tail. We also see how he changed forms from human to key to human-looking person. (He specifically mentions Violet's special skill is transforming. He wouldn't mention that for no reason.)
4. Perfect Halo> Violet transformed Buddy by giving him real wings. (He just so happen to mention that his wings are real during the banter)
5. Absentee> (I actually can't find anything about transformation here, but if anyone has noticed something, I'd love to hear it :D)
6. Alice in Plunderland> Chase transforms into a tiny version of himself. (Buddy points out that this should NOT be possible under normal circumstances)
7. Stardust> Synthia (Buddy's character) transforms into Melody (Chase's character). Also, Melody is a transformed/disguised version of Starphanie. (We literally see the bad guys attempting to break holograms and transform the characters)
8. A Murder, Unfortunately> the Key People transform into humans in the mirror's reflection. Plus, Buddy asks Chase to meet him at midnight, which is traditionally the time Cinderella's transformation wears off.
So not only were we shown all of these things (+plus the whole story revolves around boys transforming into princesses and book characters in general), but now we see them DE-TRANSFORNING too.
Nox is about to reveal his current real form, from human to a key. Deacon has shown his real form, from doctor to writer. It'd only make sense to assume that it's Chase's and perhaps the villains' time to detransform. Unless we think of Wave's detransforming as him revealing to us that he's a traitor.
Also "The Old Man and the Sea" sounds very freaky and suspicious?
And actually we should have questioned Wave's name being WAVE before, because "Wave" is very close to "Sea". And sea/water is present in every arc of major importance in the comic (Beach Boys> Nox's betrayal and decision not to take advantage of Chase anymore. Still Waters> Finale, the true love's kiss saves them, Nox being a key gets revealed. Little Shadows> Nox's backstory gets revealed.)
ALL OF IT REVOLVES AROUND THE TOPIC OF WATER. A random henchman being called "Wave" would make much sense, but it would make much more sense if a more important villain would identify with the topic of water more.
