what butchfemme isn't: - a complicated, challenging dynamic - roles that need to be played perfectly with rules, constructs and strict methodology - formulas or styles of dress/fashion that can be 'right' or 'wrong' - sexuality or kinks that must be adhered to (i/e butch is always 'top') what butchfemme is: - safety. beginning in the 40's and 50's, butchfemme has always been about mutual protection and supporting of each other through the bending of gender norms (i urge everyone to read your history, however you can). - primarily lower socioeconomic people coming together to protect and support one another and love each other and engage in play, sex and kink. - fun! it's fun, people. it's always supposed to have been fun.

there has historically been far, far too much gatekeeping in the butchfemme community. as an example, butches in the 50's would ostracize any butch who wasn't stone. in the modern era there's just no need for it. we can make the change, we can choose to be better, and yet i see this online community engaging in a lot of the same soup reheated.
