The orange glare announced the beginning of another summer afternoon greeted Falkner as he emerged from his favorite Violet City restaurant…

Slightly confused, Lyra manages to offer a quick nod as his arm suddenly drapes across her shoulder. Although she is feeling uncertain by the gym leader’s peculiar actions, the prospect of getting ice cream is somewhat reassuring. With such a notorious sweet tooth, it’s almost rare for her to pass up such a tempting offer.
“Ice cream sounds swell!” She exclaims, licking her lips. There’s never a bad time for dessert... even if she hasn’t eaten lunch yet! “Have you tried Oran Berry flavor? It’s sooo good! ♡”
“But... of course, there’s nothing better than original flavors like Vanilla or Strawberry! They need some love too, hee hee!” Glancing back to make sure that Eevee is following close behind, she allows him to lead her in the direction of the local ice cream parlor. It shouldn’t be too long of a walk, since Violet City is such a close-knit town.
As they’re making their way down the street, Lyra’s face begins to crinkle. Feeling the sensation of warm liquid running down her nose, she brings her fingers up to her face and wipes, then looks in horror at the r e d stained across small digits. “F-f-f-f-f-falkner...!! I’m b-b-b-bleeding...?!”
With tears gushing, she begins to wail - loudly. “W-whyyy am I bleeeeeeding?!”
“Have you fallen asleep on me?” (clair to the marshmellow bab vwv)
Determined to become a stronger Pokémon trainer, Lyra had traveled all the way to Blackthorn City in hopes of receiving some assistance from its gym leader, Clair. Her only mistake before coming, however, was not getting enough sleep. With heavy eyelids, the sleep-deprived girl waited for Clair to finish battling against a last minute challenger. She had originally been leaning against one of the gym’s outside trees, but then ended up on the ground, slouched up against its trunk. Promising herself that she would only “rest her eyes” for a couple of moments, Lyra slowly dozed off into a Meowth-nap.
It didn’t take long before the Dragon Mistress found her snoozing away, eyes covered by her lowered marshmallow hat. Before she could wake the girl up, Lyra began to mumble amid her regular snoring.
“Zzz… N-no… zz… I’m not… ri…ding… my.. bike…zz… indoors… nh… NO PROFESSOR ELM DON’T TAKE AWAY MY HAT I’M SORR—!” She woke up in a jolt, heart pounding within the confines of her heaving chest. “U-uwah? M-M-Miss Clair! Eep! Had I really fallen asleep?! I’m so sorry! I’ve just been so tired and ehehehe… d-did I mention your hair looks great today?!”
“Awww, thank you May May!” She giggles, throwing her arms around the girl and hugging her tightly.
It’s always to spend time with a best friend, especially one such as May, who isn’t seen on a regular basis. But, Lyra always tries to visit whenever she can. After all, May is like the rainbow to her sunny day!
“Wanna know a secret?” Lyra asks, whispering into May’s ear. “Promise me ‘ya won’t tell, ‘kay?!” She waits for a response before carrying on, “I’m so huggable ‘cause my hat is full of magic! Hehehe! ♪”
Laughing once again, Lyra removes off her beloved hat and places it atop May’s head. “Look! Now you’re super huggable too! ♡”
[☀] - “Gosh, it seems like forever since we’ve last been to Violet!”
“Don’t you think so too, Vee?” Lyra inquires happily as she walks side by side with her fox-like companion. The Pokémon’s ears prick up in attention, focus shifting from a distant group of Butterfree to her pigtailed trainer’s words. She nods in agreement, offering a cheerful cry before regaining focus on the previous matter of fluttering wings and rather interesting sounds.
If Lyra remembers correctly, a few months have passed since last visiting the quiet town. Her reasoning for going was to return a group of Swablu to Falkner. He had dropped them off at her grandparent’s Pokémon daycare because there was no room for them in his aviary, and he would need to expand it before housing them. So, after three weeks had passed, and Falkner sent a messenger Pidgey their way, Lyra was in charge of returning the flock. Although the normal protocol was to have a trainer come pick up their Pokémon on their own time, the daycare couple understood the busy schedules of gym leaders and the like.
With a grin, Lyra begins to hum and glances up at the big blue sky, reflecting on the day’s events so far.
In the morning, they had paid her mother a surprise visit, which of course, was more than welcomed by the single parent. Excited to see her only daughter, “Mama” Misaki whipped up a grand breakfast that consisted of chocolate chip pancakes (Lyra’s favorite), scrambled eggs, toast, and a big pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Lyra enjoyed telling her mother about all the adventures she’s had so far since they’ve last seen each other. One of her stories involved encountering a Suicune! But unfortunately for Lyra, the legendary Pokémon became frightened and ran off before she could even do anything. Still, it was rather impressive to see the majestic creature after knowing how “elusive” it was, according to Eusine. She only wishes that she could have managed to snap a picture of it for him.
Before leaving Newbark, Lyra stopped by Professor Elm’s laboratory to greet everyone in there. She was disappointed to learn that Ethan was out for the day, but she promised that she would make plans to hang out with him some other time. She really missed him.
A gentle breeze swirls past the traveling duo, its cool sensation pulling Lyra away from her internal musing. Blinking a couple of times and regaining focus, she’s surprised to learn that they have finally made it to Violet City.
It is a quiet town; protected from the hustle-and-bustle of regular city life by its flawless capture of ancestral Johto and serene environment. Violet is an ideal home for those who are desiring to live at a slower pace than the average norm, which may explain why the majority of residents are elderly. Lyra has come to know them all as good people because they’re always kind to her whenever she visits. In fact, most of them probably know her by now. It isn’t difficult for the girl to make herself known when she’s got a mixture of charisma and energy flowing through her veins.
Stopping at the entrance, Lyra excitedly glances down at her companion, hazel eyes shimmering playfully. “C’mon, Vee! I’ll race ‘ya-- last one to Falkner’s gym is a rotten Exeggcute!” With a gleeful cry, she takes off before the Pokémon even begins to comprehend the situation.
Spreading her arms out like wings, the pigtailed trainer zooms across the sleepy town of Violet without a care in the world. As always, it isn’t long before Eevee manages to catch up. The tiny ball of fur even passes her in a short amount of time. While she may be small, Vee has got a high reservoir of energy -- much like Lyra does.
They’ve almost made it to the gym, Vee leading the way. Determined to win just this once, Lyra runs as fast as she can. Unfortunately she’s unable to realize that Falkner is sweeping outside of his gym, right in their path.
“Uwahhh! Look out!” She frantically proclaims, hands flailing and voice coming out in a worried shrill. Falkner turns around, expression quickly morphing into shock. Lyra’s warning is all in vain, because it’s too late for either of them to properly react before the pigtailed trainer collides into him with a loud smack!
“Owie... ow... ow ow ow...” Groaning in pain, it takes her far too long to realize she’s on top of Falkner and the impending blush immediately finds its way upon her cheeks once she is able to jump up and fly back a couple of paces.
Once the initial embarrassment and shock wear off, she returns by his side and looks down at him. Worriedly, hazel eyes scan the gym leader for any signs of injury. Was he hurt? Oh Arceus, did he need 9-1-1? Was there even a hospital in Violet?!
It... doesn’t seem like it. In fact, he looks completely fine. But regardless, she feels the need to apologize. Offering a hand, Lyra blurts out an apology. “S-sorry Mr. Falkner...! I um...!! I was ow... racing with Vee and I.. uh.. since when do you stand around the front of your gym..!! Ow..!!.”
They stand before each other in silence, as Falkner seems to be struggling with his words. “I-is everything okay?! Are you hurt M-Mr Falkner..?! W-why are you looking at me like t-t-that?” Unbeknownst to Lyra, she is the one who is hurt, with blood trickling down her nose.
i will reply to the rest of the memes that people sent me on tuesday!! i have a big headache rn and i can’t focus on writing up anything ;w; srry!! tuesday for sure though! <3
“A kiss…? D-do you really think it’ll work?” She asks hesitantly, feeling the warmth of a blush and the sensation of Butterfree fluttering around the deepest pits of her stomach. Falkner responds with a sly nod, thus eliciting a tiny squeak from the girl’s throat. Out of embarrassment, she quickly lowers her head and nervously twiddles both thumbs.
“I’mprettysurethatonlyhappensinfairytalesMrFalkner…! B-but if I do k-k-kiss you then… what if I’m a bad at it and your lip never gets healed… then w-what– I-I suppose you could get P-Pidgeot to smooch you… Freya loves you a lot, I’m sure!!!”
… Sigh, enough is enough. Falkner needs her help, and if it’s a kiss he needs… then so be it!
Regaining composure, Lyra begins to walk closer to him, though her legs wobble like gelatin. They’re finally inches apart… no turning back now. “I’m doing this for y-you, Mr. Falkner!! U-um… close your eyes okay!” In her flustered state, Lyra squeezes her eyes shut and puckers up, heading straight for Falkner’s lips like a torpedo.. only to bump against his nose.
Then, she tries again… and bashes their foreheads together. After the both of them finish groaning in pain, Lyra glances at him shyly and tugs at one of her pigtails.
“S-since I’m in pain too… maybe um… you can try kissing me… to make it all better… f-for the both of us…”
“H-heh, don’t you worry M-Mr. Lance! I’ll p-protect you, yes!” She nervously reassured, offering a shaky grin; though it could hardly be perceived in the dimly lit haunted house. They made an unlikely pair, a humorous one, at that. Even Morty, the one who had organized this Halloween event, couldn’t help but chuckle to himself when he partnered them up.
As they continued walking, a Ghastly shot up from beneath the ground with a rather horrifying expression on its face. Although it elicited a scream from the dragon tamer, Lyra managed to compose herself for his sake. Partially satisfied by their response, Ghastly stuck out its tongue for a final effect and drifted upward before disappearing into the ceiling.
Fearing that Lance wouldn’t last much longer, Lyra brought him closer to her by linking their arms together. Giggling, she nudged him playfully. “T-that wasn’t so bad, eh…? I bet it’s ‘cause I’ve been practicing to be as fierce as you ‘n Miss Clair… – though, I s’pose right now is kind of an exception for ‘ya, ain’t it?” Lance merely whimpers in response, causing Lyra to giggle even more. At least the memory of him clinging onto her would serve as a humorous one.
Soon, much to their relief, daylight could be seen from a short distance. It wouldn’t be long before they could finally make it out alive. Just a couple of more steps to go…
But then, a large Ariados skittered down from its web, purple eyes glinting with mischief as it headed straight for the two of them. Lyra screamed as loud as she could, having always been afraid of any type of insect.
“AIIEEEEEEE!”
“Let’sgolet’sgolet’sgolet’sgo!” Taking hold of Lance’s hand, she sprinted for the exit with him dashing behind. Once they made it outside, she threw her arms around him and hugged tightly. “We’re never doing that again… ‘kay?!”
