So what are the one's that you need to target - Well, here are a few tips.

Ezinearticles.com - This is the most prominent directory and probably the best if what you want is high quality links. The submission can take over a week though so don't expect overnight success and the links per article are maximum of 4 including the resource box so know this before you "overlink".

Goarticles.com - This is the fastest submission directory and the voting process is quite active, so you could end up with a front page link if your article is well received, which could lead to widespread publication.

Article Friendly - They have a couple of directories and they have scripts to make your own article directory.

There are other options, but if you stick to these three I'd consider that a safe and smart move

There are thousands of article directories all wanting your articles, but some of them have a better reputation than others.  For the longest time I have been of the belief that the total number of links and words have played a part in the value of a site.  If this isn't the case, then it's pointless even using the big directories because they still have pr zero pages for YOUR articles.

You’re spending time and money to produce decent and unique seo driven content.  You need to get it to the right places.

Link ratio and article marketing research

I believe the higher the words to links ratio is, the higher quality the search engines regard a site and the links from it, page rank or no page rank.

Think about it?  A site like article cat is about 50th in the popularity stakes as far as directories go and Ezinearticles is number one, but if the page rank of you article is going to be zero no matter which site you put it on, then why would you put it on the one that manually checks, when you can put it on an automated one, where there is no waiting?

So, you can submit where ever you want, but choose quality to be aligned with for integrity.

For those non-professional seo’s out there who merely wish to do the SEO for their own sites, here’s a little tip:

If you can reduce the out bound links.

What do I mean by this?

Let’s say you have a profile page somewhere and it asks you several questions and lets you put your website in one of them, thus gathering you a single link from the page.  Be careful.  

First of all don’t be spammy and hit and run.  Make sure you fill out the about me box, but do it smart.  

You’ve worked hard to produce high-quality seo content

You are getting a link from this page to your site, so make this page content relevant and talk about your like for whatever it is your link subject is.

This will mean your website is getting a link from a page with it’s keywords on it.

Secondly, do not fill in too many areas that may result in tags beng placed on the page.  By this I mean when it asks you you favorite foods and you list twelve, it could mean that when you publish your page to get a single profile link, you might find the site has an internal link to each of the 12 different foods you listed.  

So now your solitary link is losing link juice to 12 other links and worst of all, they are not relevant to yours.

Most links on the internet come from sidebars, footers and head tabs.  This means that in text links carry more weight, because of the nature for rarity they speak to the relevance of content.

I don't know exactly how the search engines value in text links, but I do know they count what the surrounding text is about and as you'll notice with side bar and tab links, they have little to no text surrounding them.

Let’s say I want to link to my article on unique seo content.

It’s best for me to use those keywords around the link.  So right now I should work unique seo into a sentence and even better if I use the words unique seo content.

It's harder than ever to get body content links because even article directories now make you link only in the signature box at the bottom of the page, at the end of the content YOU created.  Not as good a deal as it was. 

The best place to get in content links is from sites and blogs you yourself design and create.  You create the blog.  You make sure it gets enough page rank form content and back links and then you can have unlimited in test links from that source.

Old Pages

Old Pages can be huge

Let's say you have a page on your site that is 5 years old, it has a small page rank of 1 and about 7 inbound links.

What you may not realize is that this page is RIPE.

Here's what you do...

Find a couple of new keywords for the article and extend it to freshen the content.

Now, you can go to fiverr or fourerr and pay a couple of people to build a few hundred links to that page.

It’s a lot cheaper than having unique seo content commissioned.

You wont look spammy at all because the page is old and respected, plus you'll get new traffic from the fresh content and new keywords.

Trending Keywords

Always be aware of trending keywords.  These new words may give you a chance to add extra traffic to an existing page or a new one.

Look through Google analytics for great news trends that may appear.  These trends can pop and if you have them first on your page, the page age will lend you huge weight in the search engines.

Get in early and you could pick up big traffic.

I bet like most SEO folk out there,  you've noticed the instances  of PR spoken about, but you may not entirely get how it works and why it will absolutely benefit your website/s.     

PR is a method of ranking  a site contingent on a summary of factors, though the special known assessments of outbound links,  page size and age and history of particular page.                                                  

These decisive factors establish that a culmination of some links, valuable pr links and a page's longevity  all contribute to the rateable  value of a given site.

 So if you are attempting to augment the pr of your own individual site, then you should do these:    

Look, you can't really prematurely age your unique content site, but, what you can do is build links and by that I mean only high quality links to your site of choice.  

Link building should be around one quarter to a third of a days work when it comes to your website promotion.  

Your spare time should be used both gaining the best possible links and link boosting a couple of those links that link to you that are high in quality.                                            

If you have in possession a few really high quality articles that you created for an article directory site (or 5), then be thorough to take a little time during the day trying to also get a few links to them.

In my experience the fast way to get a new page indexed is to internally link to it right away.

When google comes to your site and sees that you have a page that is new, but no other pages are linking to it, what do you think that says about its value?

Most sites like wordpress have this covered with categories and sidebar linking, but I'm talking about mid content links.  The kind that are in text, not side bars with no content.

The next time you write a post, go to another post on your site and link to it in the body of content (you'll find a way).

This will tell the big SE's that your content is relevant enough to visit from another page on your site, best of all, it's completely in your power.
