Thinking about the New Mutants growing up when age was such an important of their og dynamic.

Like Xi’an was the original leader because she was 18 & the other were several years younger. Sam and Dani are 17 & 16 while the others are about 14, & that’s why they rely on each other much more easily than they do the rest of the team. Sam feels like his teammates are his responsibility because he’s older & more mature. Rahne gets away with stuff because she’s the baby. Doug & Yana bridge the gap where the co-leaders make the decisions & the rest of the team doesn’t & they’re in the middle age-wise. Etc.

But they grow up & things aren’t the same & things shouldn’t be the same. It’s not better it’s not worse. It’s growth it’s change & not even comic books’ tendency to reset the status quo can undo it. No matter what they will never be 13 & 14 & 14 & 15 & 15 & 16 & 17 & 19 again.
