"You said a long long time ago"

Today's track, North by North by Faded Paper Figures is one of those songs that's managed to make an imprint upon me. I remember first hearing it during the summertime, driving with the windows down and cool wind blowing upon me. I was taking the scenic route home; it was sunset and the sky was alight with orange-red hues and the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Then this song came on and instantly captured the moment, solidifying melody and memory.  If you're into the downtempo Postal Service vibe, or indie in general, then definitely check it out. Maybe you'll end up making a memory of your own.

"Where could my one love be?"

I must say, theres certainly something about Emily Haines, perhaps better known as the front-woman for Metric. My first introduction to this vocalist was on Stars' album Nightsongs on which Haines provided most of the female vocals, before the acquisition of Amy Millan.

As mentioned, nowadays shes been kept busy with the rising popularity of her band Metric. While the band is currently heading in a different direction, much of their earlier work, and much of Emily's solo work, consists of down-tempo, melody driven music. Todays' track, "Rowboat" comes off of Haines' What Is Free to A Good Home? EP. A sombre track, it manages to truly convey emotion through music, something I'm beginning to think is becoming a lost art.

"Long Gone"

The Black Keys have been getting some well deserved attention lately,  with perhaps the highest praise being the Grammy win for Best Alternative Music Album. Not to mention, commercials seem to love these guys; I can't turn on the television without hearing one of their songs. And trust me, thats a good thing. Todays song, She's Long Gone, is off their album Brothers. Be sure to check it out.

"Cool and easy"

Here's a dose of feel good music brought to you by The Movement. The first time I heard these guys was at a show of theirs, the fact that I'm still listening to them now speaks for itself. If you're into Reggae/Rock/Rap, I'd highly suggest you check them out. Todays track Hola is off their CD On Your Feet, another solid album I would highly recommend.

"Day is night, right is wrong"

Today's track comes off of Phoenix's second album, Alphabetical. Recently it seems as if Phoenix has been getting a lot of airplay due to the surge of their music in commercials, movies and television shows. While Phoenix's latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix has them raking in the royalties, I've been enamored with the smoother style witnessed on their first albums.

The track (You Can't Blame It On) Anybody  shows a side of this band, maybe not as featured, but just as good. With un-glossed vocals, and an almost R&B vibe to it, this track manages to stand out by NOT trying to stand out.

"Knew this was always gonna happen"

The inaugural first post is always a tough one. First off, let me say, coming up with a title for a blog is a pain the in the fucking ass. I was planning on making this with blogger since it seemed to be easier to customize, and generally has better visibility on Google. Whelp, turns out every single name imaginable is already in use. I literally spent an hour just trying to think of something that wasn't meaningless jibber jabber. fkdshfakjhdakfjdhsfkha.blogspot.com. Taken? Really? (Okay, it's not, but it was seriously getting to that point). SO I decided to try my chances with tumblr, and voila: New Fossils.  Perhaps not the best name ever, but at least it carries SOME relevant meaning.

Anyways, on to the good stuff. This blog will pretty much be dedicated to posting music. It may be new music, it may be old, but I'll try to make sure its always good. My auditory tastes are a bit eclectic so you very well may not like everything, but expand your horizons and maybe you'll find something you like.

Todays' song is Elise by Toro y Moi, I just recently found out about this guy, but since I have, his music has been like crack to me. If you're into chill indie music with a somewhat upbeat vibe, I'd highly recommend his album Underneath the Pine, it's well worth listening to.

FYI: I'm going to try and maintain a MWF posting schedule, but we'll see how that goes.
