Christie Vilsack’s latest radio ad highlights how Congressman Steve King has spent ten years in office protecting Washington interests, instead of doing the right thing for Iowa.

“Congressman King has had ten years to do what’s best for the people of Iowa, but he has instead chosen to vote against them while protecting Washington interests and criticizing Iowans who are searching for a job,” said Christie Vilsack for Iowa campaign manager Jessica Vanden Berg. “The fact is, Congressman King has taken five pay raises, while voting for a $1,500 tax increase on working families. Iowans deserve a member of Congress who will work on their behalf, not work to protect the broken system in Washington and defend the wealthy for not paying their fair share. Christie Vilsack will always put the needs of the small towns and cities in the 4th District first.”

The ad, titled “Himself,” is the third radio ad from the Vilsack campaign and will begin airing across the 4th District this week.

Congressman Steve King’s acceptance of five pay raises worth nearly $20,000, trips around the world from private groups worth over $130,000, and protection of taxpayer-funded pensions for members of Congress who go on to make millions as Washington lobbyists is the subject of Christie Vilsack’s second radio ad, which will begin airing across the 4th District.

“In Iowa, we’re taught the values of hard work and responsibility. Unfortunately Congressman King has forgotten these values and, during his ten years in Congress, he has been focused on protecting his own interests instead of doing what’s best for his constituents,” said Christie Vilsack. “I want to go to Congress to create layers of economic opportunity in the 4th District, not to protect my own interests or Washington lobbyists. These 39 counties deserve someone who will put their needs first and work every day to bring jobs and economic opportunity to the small towns and cities in the district.”

The new ad, “Washington,” is available online here. Christie Vilsack has called on Congressman King to return his five pay raises to taxpayers, and has pledged to vote against and give back any pay raises until the federal budget is balanced.

Christie Vilsack for Congress launched their first radio ad today, which highlights the hypocrisy between Congressman Steve King’s support of five pay raises for himself, while voting against a bonus for active duty members of the military in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“In Iowa, we believe in the values of hard work and responsibility,” said Christie Vilsack. “Congressman King’s votes don’t reflect these values. Congressman King has spent ten years in Washington putting his interests ahead of his constituents. Taking five pay raises while voting against a $1,500 bonus for our troops in harms way is unacceptable.”

During his ten years in Congress, King has taken five pay raises, increasing his salary by nearly $20,000 to $174,000. When he had the chance to give a $1,500 pay raise to active duty members of the military in Iraq and Afghanistan, King cast the deciding vote against it.

Christie Vilsack has pledged to vote against and return any pay raise until the United States has a balanced budget. She has also called on Congressman King to return his pay raises to the taxpayers.

The ad will begin airing today in markets across the 4th Congressional District.
