Museum Night Fever

Archipelago Cinema: a floating revival of classic American drive-in theatres designed by Ole Scheeren. Originally installed in Nai Pi Lae lagoon on Kudo Island, the raft is now heading to Venice, where it is part of La Biennale di Venezia’s 13th International Architecture Exhibition.

Paint Job: Brilliant after Breakfast “hijacked” the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam by creating an augmented reality app where users can point to artworks with their smartphones to reveal comical graffitied messages on the painting. via PSFK

Fluids: During three hours, two cubic structures of ice blocks were built on the plaza outside the Block Museum. Their walls were unbroken. They were left to melt.

"The Block Museum and Northwestern's Department of Art Theory and Practice recreated conceptual artist Allan Kaprow’s seminal sculpture/performance work “Fluids” on the Plaza outside the Block Museum.

More than 50 Northwestern students, faculty, and staff and members of nearby communities stacked approximately 375 blocks of ice, by hand, to create two large cubic structures, each about 8 feet in height and 10 feet in length and width.

Once completed, the structures were left to melt away.

The project grew out of a class taught by Professor Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, a MacArthur Foundation Fellow and internationally renowned artist."

Once Removed:  "A design experiment with nine collaborators from across the globe, showcasing objects bound not by a single aesthetic or function, but instead through a shared history of visual cues. Designers help inform each others’ process from afar and create a collection united by a unique communal vision." Once Removed will be on display in the NoHo Design District at 22 Bond Street, NY, NY, from May 18th to the 21st.

The Tanks at Tate Modern: "The cavernous underground oil tanks in the former power station that is now Tate Modern have been transformed and will play host over three months this summer to a festival of cross-disciplinary work encompassing performance, film and installation.

Setting an agenda for the future of the museum, the programme will present new ways of linking recent tendencies in art with a rich vein of art history and experimenting with new forms of audience engagement, participation and learning.”
