IF anyone knows of any family law attorney(s) who work pro bono or is willing to work on a pay scale, please for the love of mine and my child's safety, I need one. I've tried LANWT - I qualify, but they're understaffed and won't represent me I've tried DVAP - Case in Denton County is out of their jurisdiction I've tried Genesis and The Family Place - Their staff attorneys are not taking cases I have an intake appointment with Denton Friends of the Family for their outreach services but that does not guarantee any legal representation IF you are able to gift any funds towards A) childcare B) living expenses Anything would be appreciated. I have an apartment I'm supposed to be moving into on Monday, I'm just $300 shy. I am working 2 jobs I have applied for welfare assistance and am working on getting those benefits established I will be speaking with a woman's shelter org. that told me they could help with paying utilities. I'm in the process of a very ugly divorce due to domestic violence. My soon-to-be ex is refusing to pay for childcare, trying to petition for primary custodianship, and is also denying that he ever laid hands on me. I am applying for child support, and my DV case is currently waiting on a hearing date, but until either of those are established I've been struggling to handle my divorce on my own, and there are no temporary custody orders and every time we exchange our son, I risk not getting him back, but withholding our son doesn't work in my favor either. I need help because I can't do this on my own anymore.

UPDATE:

I was asked to leave the shelter after 6 wks, despite having no where to go. I asked for an extension, and was denied, making my baby and I homeless. I was told to get creative, and if the other women’s shelters were full that I should try the homeless shelters

All of the women’s shelters I called for 3 days morning and night said they were full

From other accounts of the homeless shelters, despite being roofed and warm, they all sounded a little dangerous for my son.

I had my mom keep my son for a night, then found a friend willing to house us, we both stayed a night with the friend, then the weekend came; time to exchange my son with his father. I asked him to keep him for the week so I could be available to work, to continue to save for an apartment.

I did find an apartment. I signed a lease, but I’m still about $700 short. I was approved with conditions and was asked to pay 2 months rent upfront. And the move-in date is still 2 wks away (Feb. 6)

I had to ask my husband to keep our son another week so I could continue to work AND Because the friend said I could only stay a week. I have to find somewhere else to stay again

My husband wanted to meet to discuss divorce terms. I asked him to bring his financial records. He didn’t bring anything, and instead the entire night intimidated me, scared me, gaslit me about strangling me, saying “prove it,” and that he could take more from me than I could him

I still don’t have an attorney, I still can’t afford one. I feel lost, hopeless, and overwhelmed. I can’t continue to do this by myself

I gave a fellow shelter resident a ride and afterwards found my way to the nearby bookstore.

I’m basically killing time before going to pick up The Babe and I found this gem

I’m enjoying the smell of coffee, debating on spending money for lunch or using more gas to drive back to the shelter where lunch will be provided… It’s just that I’m currently closer to the area where I’ll pick up my son, trying to be smart with my gas mileage while also being smart with the little money I have on hand
