Psychological research is clear: when people procrastinate, there's usually a good reason
good read for teachers.
[โฆ] When a person fails to begin a project that they care about, itโs typically due to either a) anxiety about their attempts not being โgood enoughโ or b) confusion about what the first steps of the task are. Not laziness. In fact, procrastination is more likely when the task is meaningful and the individual cares about doing it well.
Iโve been yelling this for years

oh hey its me
dear usamerican high schoolers looking for a way to resist fascism: sit through the pledge of allegiance.
no getting up. no looking at the flag.
everyone will be looking at you. you'll be sweating like a fucking hippopotamus. your teacher will sternly tell you to get up. you'll feel stupid and that maybe its not worth it because you're just a kid in a classroom. but I'm here to remind you that there are no real life consequences to detention. there are however real life consequences to resisting a thoughtless performance of nationalism.
If you are punished in any way for sitting through the pledge, please contact the American Humanist Association for legal aid.
Your teachers and schools are legally forbidden from punishing you for exercising your right to refuse this ritual.
Wait this is something that is still being done today? As in 2025???
Oh yeah, absolutely. Even as an adult, I'm "expected" to participate in the pledge when I'm working in schools (though of course I refuse to do so, and boy have I caused some problems with that).
The most recent pledge I personally saw was just in April of 2025, and I'd've seen more if I worked more closely with students.
I was forced to write the pledge 25 times in 5th grade when I refused to say it one morning. They denied me lunch until I finished it. Ever since that day, I've boycotted the Pledge. I refuse to pledge allegiance to a country that forces children into compliance with nationalistic rituals.
glad the sharpest bulbs the u.s has to offer are on the case
A good friend of mine is working on an ADA ramp for their home and donating to the cause/sharing this flyer would be super helpful and appreciated! ๐

United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.
this is one of those little details that jumped out and stuck with me since hearing about this.
crazy to take a business to court because they need to take โaggressive, anti-consumerโ tactics. like right, making life increasingly harder and worse for everyone in the pursuit of short term profits is very intentional, and sometimes someone will just come right out and say it.
why do we bother with I hate my partner jokes when your boss is right there
I love my wife. my boss though? that ball and chain??
do you understand my vision
Oh this is too fun
Bestie, your brain, your VISION, ahead of your time
Below is a post I wrote back in December, when Luigi hype was everywhere. While I do think the hype having died down clearly shows we're still very much stuck in the swamp of capitalistic ideology and a bit too prone to what's trending, I still think much of the below sentiment is correct and worth talking about.
:

"...the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play."
Honestly I'm glad that most of the left seems united in the belief that Magione's personal politics don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. But even with that said, this excerpt from his manifesto is doing a kind of cogent Leftist Analysisโข. Marx emphasized the primacy of material conditions, and their role in shaping the ideas and cultures of a given society. Capitalism (and class society more broadly) is "power games" systematized. No amount of "awareness" will ever bring about the needed changes until an organized populace fights back against the power games. Materialism precedes idealism; power games precede awareness.
Furthermore,
"Frankly, these parasites had it coming...these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it."
reads like a person nearing a wider critique of the profit system as a whole. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I don't think your typical center-right tech bro is likely to call profiteering CEOs "parasites" who "abuse the country". Regardless, the rhetoric used has unleashed a kind of anti-rich populist sentiment across the political spectrum that could very much be used to advance class consciousness and organizing.
โ๏ธThis๐ is a common sentiment online right now. I want to make a longer post analyzing it in more detail in the near future, but suffice it to say this could very well be the early stirrings of a new class consciousness, after a long hibernation forced upon us by neoliberalism and mid-century consumerism.
Finally, I can't stress enough how crucial it is that he took care to avoid harming innocent people. He considered using a b0mb when targeting Thompson, but decided against it because he didn't want to harm other people in the crossfire. Regardless of his political leanings, that demonstrates a clear-eyed compassion for the average person, especially when paired with his larger motivation (he targeted UHC because it was the biggest insurance provider and denied a third of its claims, not because he himself was a victim of the corporation).
Spree shooters (often loudly right-wing or far-right themselves) explicitly target the average person โ it's almost always about taking their alienated late-capitalist rage and turning it on the "herd", the "sheeple", the mundane idiots who can't comprehend the heart of a "lion", or whatever the fuck. This event was very much counter to that logic, which explains all the support for Mangione himself. I've seen comparisons to martyrs โ to selfless rebels who sacrificed their wellbeing for the advancement of a cause and for the betterment of the masses. It's like he tore a hole in the suffocating curtain of capitalist hegemony and the "safe" "civil" liberal democracy that passively (and even actively) allows millions to die.
Hmm, integration of state and corporate power - which could mean nothing
which could mean nothing
greta thunberg, liam cunningham, rima hassan, and everyone else on that ship, thank you, and i hope you succeed. i really hope you succeed. you know what you are risking, and i wish for you to come back safely, having done what you set out to do.
for those who don't know, the freedom fretilla, a ship headed to gaza to try and get some aid past the israeli siege, just left with among its crew swedish activist greta thunberg, irish actor liam cunningham, and french member of the european parliament rima hassan.
the ship has already been bombed twice during previous attempts at approaching gaza.
my only hope is that if we make enough noise this time, israel won't dare bomb it with such prominent international figures on board, from fear of making them martyrs and turning the rest of the world against them.
so talk about it, post about it, and expect, demand their mission to succeed and their safe return ๐
the only power we have is political and economic pressure at this point. ethics are out of the picture when it comes to the israeli government. so we need to make it clear that bombing this ship would be a declaration of war against europe.
Organizers say climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and other 11 activists set sail on Sunday afternoon for Gaza on a ship aimed at โbreaking I
The 12-person crew, which includes climate activist Greta Thunberg, expects to take seven days to reach Gaza.
