❝ ah actually i came to get something fixed for m-- um my dad.. yeap. booster-- well yeah, my dad broke something again, ❞ she smiled, trying to cover up her awkwardness. was there really anything wrong with her admitting that SHE was actually the one to break it? no. but also totally wouldn’t hurt anyone if she just pretended her dad did.  ❝ so, is your dad around or like should i come back later... ? ❞

Michael looked at her and smiled. It was like looking in a mirror sometimes. Well if the mirror showed a smarter version of yourself that is. 

“It doesn’t matter what I think. I thought I was ready when I tried to join and I sure wasn’t. Ted saved my butt that day. I think Miguel needs someone like you on the team though.”

❝ maybe, ❞ michaela replied quietly. she looked up from her nails for the first time to give him a small smile.  ❝ it’s just weird you know? like, they all seem to know each other and them im just THERE. i guess... i don’t know. i guess that’s kind of a stupid thing to worry about given the big picture of everything. you ever feel like super alone sometimes?  ❞

she sat down, spinning in one of the chairs in the lab. michaela kept her eyes on her hands, picking at one of her nails. a bad nervous habit. one she really hated, because now she’d have to go and get them redone.  

    ❝ so i did what you said.  i went and asked to join the new jli, ❞ she told him quietly. she was still very unsure of herself. unsure of everything.  ❝ do you really think im ready, booster? ❞

❝ oh hi! ❞ michaela smiled, greeting her with a wave. she was just going to pretend like she didn’t notice the curtness of her welcome. she worked in customer service for some time now, she was pretty resilient to that sort of thing.   ❝ how are you? ❞

“Well I mean our dads used to be pretty tight. I thought that might be weird.” Miguel sat across from her and pulled a candy bar out of his pocket. He took a small bite out of it and laughed. “Alright what do you have to offer?”
