I think it would be funny if number nine and number 16 had really off putting stares because their human forms just aren’t the best. Like yes, dead fish eyes and suspiciously bright eyes with white pupils are not going to draw any attention to you whatsoever. Your cover won’t be loan at all. Since Kafka and Dee both have more limbs in kaiju form (Kafka has a tail trust) they would forget that they’re in humans bodies and end up doing something stupid.

Like tossing something at Dee with his hands full and he expects to catch it with his lower arms but nope, only one set of arms are available and now you gotta pick up something extra. Kafka would definitely be more accident prone since he tends to throw himself in front of danger without hesitation way too often. Especially earlier on when he was still getting used to his other body he had the habit of relying on his thicker hide in order to mitigate damage I can guarantee you that he has tried to tank something that he could not have. Kafka has probably fallen on his ass before because he forgot that he didn’t have a tail to lean on while standing.

My dumbass thought the manga was still ongoing but it turns out that I accidentally finished it and was left with more questions

Anyways it’s rambling time

We got the height chart and teeth so far. Sorry if the images are hard to see I was using a thin brush this time on a low opacity

The height chart is the most bare bones thing since I wanted to get the general concept down. But when or if I end up finishing it I will tweak their designs a bit since they all kinda have the same body shape. Because Mina is supposed to be muscular but I’m like muscular where?.? I know she carries a huge ass gun in order to fight kaiju so that has to mean something. There are still some people that need to be added like Hasegawa, Aoi and his blue friend who’s name I forgot

Important notes: Kafka has tusks on his lower canines, premolars are slightly sharper, and the new teeth that come in on his upper jaw are kinda janky but not fully developed. Dee’s teeth are sharper overall, but has a few extra molars. The second set of teeth are cone shaped with the intent on grabbing slippery prey. Since Y’know fishy and grabbing fishy would be difficult if you weren’t equipped to do so.

Elaborating on the tusks a bit more, I was staring at his season 1 ref sheet and noticed that his lower canines stood out more than his upper ones and was like “oh hey they’re kinda like tusks” and decided to run with that idea. I would imagine that the more Kafka turns into a kaiju the more features get stuck or just won’t change back. Plus his canines in his second kaiju form look like they’re misaligned so I took that into consideration.

Overall I want Kafka to be more rough and sturdy design wise, like a gator because gators are cool. Dee is supposed to be slippery and cunning like an eel or a snake I guess, that one is always planning something.

Still pissed about the manga ending bro because what do you mean there’s sentient kaiju and we don’t get to see the full history of kaiju?!? yeah man number 8 was formed from resentment and made a core in the bodies of the soldiers from the great disaster. HELLO?.??? So dragon vein + super strong emotion = formless monster. I want to know more about the kaiju damnit!

I wanna dive into to teeth and physical changes between Kafka and Demetri but I have a height chart in the works and I kinda wanna get that done first

Since Dee is a kaiju disguised as a human I think that the change in diet would be fun to explore how that would effect things. I would imagine such a drastic change comes with some sort of hurdle, Dee is a aquatic kaiju with a mostly pescatarian diet so eating human foods would give bro stomach problems. But then the thought of giving a character IBS comes to mind and I think that would be the best excuse for Dee. Plus animals can have IBS so it shouldn't be a stretch to say that kaiju can have stomach problems too.

Imagine seeing your coworker bust their ass out on the field, doing all this physical activity that would tire out anybody and when you finally make it back to base to get some food and rest they just avoid it all together. Very much an odd person to observe but it’s not like he goes out of his way to harm anyone directly. That would probably cause some concern but Dee would just dismiss any of it

I just finished watching Kamen Rider Wizard so I’m watching the movies now

Basic rundown of the design choices

I wanted him to look more catlike so I made his weird little eyebrow things into ears because he looks bald. I’ve gotten used to it by now but I had a shiggle whenever I saw him from the front. Didn’t change much with the chest plate, I might go with the fabric option for the dangly bits of the shoulder pad since it’s easier to draw.

I was going to give him a lighter stomach where the gold lines are but that would bring too much white into the design and this off the color ratios. Also, I thought he had knee pads but apparently they aren’t knee pads and sit right above his knee??? I was looking at the magazine and he had his face on the soles of his boots and I think that’s neat

They’re pretty popular so there’s bound to be merch of them somewhere, I know that little kid that Kafka saved has a little plushie of him in his kaiju form. But the thought of there being little ugly plushies of the Kdf is really funny to me. Imagine going to the corner store and you see some ugly plushies of your favorite captain but they’re so ugly that they’re kinda cute so you end up buying it anyways

Kafka’s hair makes me wanna shave him bald

Seriously it should NOT be so difficult to draw that bro, it looks like a durian but it’s only purpose is to torture me specifically. If he looks a bit chopped it’s because I haven’t properly found a way to stylize his fuck ass hair, thankfully when it’s longer it’s easier to draw but still.

I still gotta find a way to keep his silhouette without losing any fat since the style I’m trying to copy doesn’t have a lot of variety for fatter characters. Not everybody is a walking skeleton I want more diversity so that I don’t gotta spend 3 hours trying and failing to draw something. I don’t think the combat uniforms get enough appreciation so here we are

Anyways look at my critter

Basic rundown is that it’s a Kaiju from outside of Japan that is currently working in the kdf. Its motivations aren’t particularly strong aside from the fact that working/living as a human is the best way to understand one. Most of what it does anyways is eat smaller Kaiju when it can get away with it and test out venoms on other living creatures.

So far we haven’t seen much of the other countries aside from a brief mention during Kikoru’s backstory and when Hoshina said that the current theory was that kaiju are formed from tectonic fault lines with the build up and release of energy within the earth’s crust affecting nearby mineral and biological matter. I wanted to explore that idea a bit more by making an aquatic kaiju that could survive the deep sea. Plus I wanted a squished looking monster since most of the ones shown are armored to some degree.

I would imagine some countries are used to kaiju appearing here and there, especially if they are on the smaller scale. Sorta like a new addition to the ecosystem, maybe they could be domesticated to a degree. I know Bakko is a kaiju and he’s kinda just chilling with the defense force. But with the integration of kaiju in day to day life would also mean that there are new things to lookout for.

Like what would happen if a human ate Kaiju meat? I can’t be the only one who thought about that. There has to be a market for that kinda stuff somewhere

We already know that kaiju can sense one another, this was shown with Bakko’s dislike of Kafka and the fact that Kafka could also track down other kaiju to some degree. I’d say that it would work like a radar but depending on how familiar they are with one another it would either make finding them a lot easier or harder.

But yeah here is how I personally would draw Kafka. Will I ever draw his face? Maybe, but his fuck ass hair is hard to draw from any angle other than the front

Season 1 Kafka’s wouldn’t have much armor because that man does NOT know what he’s doing, nor what to expect from suddenly turning into a Kaiju. He would be like a baby porcupine, soft, squishy, and without proper quills to defend himself. So I figured that over time after getting his ass whooped his body would adapt accordingly. (Please note that I did not thoroughly plan out the armor this time I just wanted to get the concept out)

Season 2 Kafka is more green and has more color variations so I thoguht it would be cool if he had patterns similar to a lizard’s, plus I gave him tougher and more visible armor with less gaps, different pupil shape, thicker build, and somewhat digitigrade legs

General plan for the design was as he got closer towards the point of no return was him slowly looking more animalistic, eg a more prominent snout, change in pupils, his skin getting rougher, a change in diet and cravings— I wish we elaborated more on Kafka’s eating a bird that one time because that got me thinking about a kaiju’s eating habits and Kafka getting the intrusive thought of him eating a teammate and then being freaked out about that. OR, or, hear me out Kafka’s human body being more/less resilient to things like temperature changes and physical stress. And maybe some skin shedding who knows
