The Scientist aesthetic
Naraki approached the monolithic Osun building, awkwardly thumbing a piece of paper in her pocket. She was a jabbit, about to walk into a pumera's den. Or was it the other way around? Either way, the prospect of entering the Last Mistake filled her with dread, and with a deep breath, she opened the doors. She pulled the paper out of her pocket, a dingy bar napkin with the word "Sly" written in lipstick. Whoever this was, they could help her.
There was no disguising when someone entered The Last Mistake. The massive metal doors always creaked and gave a hiss while retracting back into their slots. Even so, Sly was slow to yank eyes off her datachron and even slower to toss a glance over her shoulder.Instantly stiffening up at the sight of a Draken wandering in, Sly growled softly. âAre you lost?â

Narakiâs ears droop. âHe took a friend of mine. For his harem. She didnât say yes. I challenged him to a duel for his place as Clan lord. He refused, and you.. canât refuse.â
She studies her nails, not wanting to look someone in the eye during this part of the story. âI stabbed him. Right there. Iâm not proud of it⌠But the Cassians showed up the next day.â
âThatâs it?â The Aurin huffed softly, looking almost bored as she looked down to her claws to study them. She slid a hunting knife out of her jacket, playing with it as she tapped the tip with a claw. âYou managed to stab him in a way to kill him instantly, then? ..or did the poor, dumb bastard bleed to death slowly cause he was too proud to bandage the wound?â Slyâs eyes flicked up to the Draken, watching her while her tail flicked.
âIâd rather not talk about it..â She scratches the back of her head. âI hit a vein. I donât really regret it, but it was a pretty horrible time in my life.â
She tenses up at the knife a bit, pulling her tail into her lap.

âThey say I murdered a war hero.â She finds a seat far away enough from Sly for comfort. âHe was my clan lord. A monster. He.. hurt females.â
âBut the Cassians own everything, every Draken. They took me here and said I would be colonizing Nexus, and I couldnât go back to Mikros. The Draken here just listen to their lies.â
She makes a âblah blah blahâ motion with her hands. âThe all powerful Luminai that defeated our strongest in combat.â
Sly studied the Draken, relaxing back as her eyes narrowed to slits. The Aurinâs tail tip twitched as she listened, one ear up. There was a small facial tick as the Draken mocked the Luminai. âI see.â Sly began, slowly settling back on her stool as she took out her datachron to tap over it. âHow did you kill him and what did he do?â The Drakenâs story was mildly sympathetic as far as motivation went, unless she was lying. She was still a Draken after all.

Naraki holds up her hands in an attempt to placate the Aurin, shrinking back a bit. She grimaces a bit. âThere are just rumors about The Last MistakeâŚâ
The Draken winces at Slyâs words, as if being physically hit. She takes a shaky deep breath. âIâll do anything. I donât even have to work inside. I can sing, dance, bartend, be a bodyguardâŚâ She rubs her left arm, rubbing comforting circles around a scar with her thumb.
Watching, Slyâs expression settled on bemused as the Draken acted more akin to a beaten dagun than the mighty warrior lizard she should have been. âRumors? What sort of roan shit are people spewing? Iâll start adding other races to collection of Chua ears if I have to keep people from whispering that weâre Dominion friendly.â Sly growled as she crossed arms over her chest. Sly narrowed her eyes as she looked over the Draken. âWhat did you do?â The sort of desperation to drive a Draken away from the Dominion and to an Aurin Drug Lord? It had to be big.

⨠For mine to accidentally burn yours with coffee.
âI didnât get a lick of sleep last night.â Aurin groaned as she rubbed at her temples. Sly was looking worse for wear with ruffled fur, a blatantly hastily put up braid to tame the mass of her green hair and clothing that was far more appropriate for a sleep over instead of being seated on Absintheâs overly plush couch.Granted, it also was the ideal outfit to take a nap on said couch but that seemed rude to do so soon. Maybe later.âThat stupid fucking Human. Bird only seems to like me when heâs buried b-â Sly cut off in a yelp as there was a clatter of mugs and a splash of burning hot coffee made itâs way down the front of her baggy shirt.

Absinthe hugs her pillow, looking offended at the butcher comment. âJust because he frustrates me doesnât mean Iâm gonna eat him! Heâs gonna live a happy life and die in his sleep.â
She raises her eyebrows and takes a sip of her coffee. âStuff?â Her tail taps, as if waiting for Sly to continue.
âBut why?â Sly cocked her head, looking over. âWhat use is a Roan if not to eat? I mean, unless you want to use him for breeding stock?â She shook her head, making a disgusted sound before peeking back over at Absinthe. âHorizontal stuff.â
Abs wrinkles her nose at Sly. âI regret asking.â

Naraki tried to both hold her head high, and not look intimidating, which is a bit of a feat when youâre about 7 feet tall. She pulled the paper out of her pocket, and approached the Aurin.
âI was told that the person who owned this place could help me.. Sly?â
She stood, awkwardly. âI need a job. Away from the Dominion.â
Ears instantly were set back as the Draken approached, lips drawing up in a silent sneer. Sly tensed up, ready to hop off the stool and bolt if needed. Could Sebby eat a Draken? She certainly could. At the Drakenâs words, Sly deadpanned as she sat up. âWhat in the Weave, by who!? What dirt brained idiot told you Iâd help a disgusting lizard!?â She shot off her stool, standing up with tail lashing behind as the Aurin glared up at the Draken. âAre you some sort of CoGS reject?â

Abs returned with two new mugs of coffee, careful to actually place them on the table this time. She flopped onto the other side of the couch, then pulled the mug to her face, took a deep breath, and then a sip. Sweet ambrosia.
With coffee calming her, she almost forgot that she saw the boobs of a crime lord just a minute ago. âWhat have you been up to lately?â
One ear flicked as Absinthe approached before Sly slowly sat up, letting the pillow fall into her lap as she sighed. The mug of coffee set up close by was snatched up and sniffed at. Sly grimaced. She took a sip then promptly had a full body shudder with tail fluffing up. Carefully the mug was set back down on the table. âUh-â The Jungle Aurinâs ears flopped as she rubbed the back of her neck. âA whole lot of gardening and..uh- Confusion over a specific Human named Bird..â Sly shrugged helplessly. âMy Stemdragon is growing big and healthy?â She continued on at a quicker pace. âFinally big enough to spook trespassers!â
Abs held the mug under her nose, half hiding, half sniffing.
âI donât know how you can be comfortable with one of those things on your property.. I can barely handle having that baby Roan Vel brought home.â
She puts down the mug and pulls a pillow into her lap, picking at the edges. âWhatâs going on with you and Bird anyway? I thought you hated him.â

âItâs no different than the warhound or chompieâŚâ Sly trailed off, reaching over to trace the rim of her abandoned mug. âA roan is easy in comparison and youâll be able to butcher it for a few meals when it gets older. Stemdragon? Not so much.â
âUh-â The jungle Aurin shifted restlessly, sitting up as she grabbed a pillow as well to hug. âYes and no? and uhâŚstuff is going on.â
