i learned that actor Danny Trejo has the most on-screen deaths of anyone in Hollywood history, with 65. Followed by Christopher Lee (60), Lance Henriksen (51), Vincent Price (41), Dennis Hopper (41), Boris Karloff (41), and John Hurt (39). (x)
Yet poor Sean Bean is stuck with the reputation for dying in every movie. Unfair.
Give him time, he still has many years of dying yet to come.
Also there’s the question of density vs quantity. If you make a hundred movies and die in 50, and someone else makes 30 movies and dies in 30, the first one has died more, but the second one has died more often per movie.
It’s the DPM ratio that really counts, IMO.
65/402 16% Danny Trejo 60/282 21% Christopher Lee 51/259 20% Lance Henriksen 41/211 19% Vincent Price 41/205 20% Dennis Hopper 41/204 20% Boris Karloff 39/209 19% John Hurt 33/117 28% Sean Bean
I’m so proud of the statistical side of tumblr for coming through on this.

Y'all, we as a community have got to get better at dodgeball if we’re gonna keep tempting fate like that.
I think the thing that annoys me most about AI on a personal, day to day, level is what it has done to grammar checkers. If you've never done a lot of editing, or used to 5+ years ago but haven't really in the last couple years, I can't even begin to describe how fucking BAD this shit has gotten. And as an author it is EXHAUSTING.
I just want to catch spelling errors and accidental double spaces and repeated phrases and whenever I use the wrong too/to or affect/effect and shit. But no. They've shoved AI up the ass of every grammar checking software out there and now they all fucking suck and make the most random, obnoxious, nonsensical suggestions.
And yeah, I can ignore all the times it's trying to get me to cut out any semblance of my own voice, or shove things into the wrong tense, or make the most random suggestions on comma usage. But if it's getting all that WRONG, what is it just straight up missing that I SHOULD be correcting? What real spelling and grammar errors are still lurking in there?
"Use Libre Office."
I get why people keep saying this (and other versions of it like "Use Adobe alternatives" and "Use Google product alternatives."). But here's the problem: I do not create in isolation. Even my own 100% personal projects are getting sent to other people whether it's editors or printers or beta readers and unless every single person in that train is using the same products, things can get wonky.
Libre Office and Word handle formatting differently on the back end, which can completely break documents if you move them back and forth between the two. So if I write in Libre Office but my beta readers are still using Word, when I send them a manuscript for review there's a good chance things won't look right and my beta reader will not actually be reviewing what I sent them.
Industry standards are industry standards FOR A REASON. Having everyone on the same workflow can be crucial to getting things done effectively and correctly without creating a lot of extra work. And those things are not going to change overnight, as much as we might want them to.
:| :| :|
Yeah, Word, let me just leave this whole chunk of dialogue without the closing quotation marks. That's the thing to do. How dare I have two punctuation marks in a row. It's not like that's how closing quotation marks fucking work.
I am going to light something on fire.
And you know, for young writers, this has got to be so detrimental just from the perspective of opening your document and seeing a million corrections that, frankly, don't need to be there. If you're a young writer you're likely not going to have the background knowledge to know what is and isn't a good suggestion, you're just going to see a document that makes it look like you made every mistake possible so clearly you must be a terrible, stupid writer and should just give up.
This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.
So many anti-science (and particularly, anti-vax) people apply their diet and orthorexia culture to medicine. That is one of the things you will hear over and over again. “I actually read the ingredients of this vaccine and it has [SUBSTANCE] in it so I will not let my child get vaccinated.” which is exactly how these people grocery shop, I’m sure. No understanding of chemistry, no research into why that ingredient is in there, what it is doing to help make the vaccine safe and effective and what amount would make it toxic to the human body. They will be like “Oh my god, there is hydrochloric acid in there! I’m not going to research into why it is in there (in small amounts as a PH stabilizer), it’s hydrochloric acid (the human body creates it naturally) and they’re trying to inject this into our children!”
i would almost love to meet one of these people and say ah yes i love drinking Dihydrogen Monoxide with heavy amounts of Citric Acid, Glucose and Limonene (this is a very terrible lemonaid) these ingredients are water, the sour of a lemon, sugar, and lemon flavoring
or just asking if they know the chemicals in a lemon.
Unironically, I saw someone say to avoid citric acid in food products (it’s a common preservative and acidifier, very safe in moderation, occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables) because it is made of black mold. Which is partially correct, Aspergillus niger produces high amounts of citric acid when fed properly BUT the mold is completely filtered out of the final refined product. SO MANY FOOD PRODUCTS ARE MADE WITH MOLD, this one doesn’t have actual mold in it, you are fearmongering about the evils of mold while it lives all around us all the time!

Pete Buttigieg is just a faggot.
It's very important to me that younger queers understand this: to the people who you're trying to be more respectable for when you say things like neopronouns set the trans movement back or you're why the cishets don't accept us or including [aces/bi people with the 'wrong kind' of partners/non-binary people/kinksters/non-passing trans ppl/furries/polyam people] just hurts us, can't you wait until we get all our rights before we talk about some of yours? -- to those people? Pete Buttigieg is just a fag.
On Sunday at Pride Northwest, some kids -- late teens, early 20s -- asked what our button I survived Reagan for this? meant. All of the queer adults at the tables making up our ad hoc counter looked at each other and sighed a little. Emet and another adult started to explain the way that the Reagan Administration handled -- or didn't handle -- the beginning of the AIDS crisis. How many people died. How much we were ignored. The Ashes Action. The Time Magazine article which explicitly blamed bisexual men for passing the pandemic to the cishet community, playing on all the worst stereotypical bullshit. The way that even when the CDC started paying attention, they were so focused on gay men that they ignored AIDS in the lesbian community, leading to the "women don't get AIDS, they just die from it" poster. And so on.
I finished counting out change and passed the last Bear Pride raised fist pin over to a bear a little older than me, then turned my head and interjected, "they didn't care until it started infecting more than just the fags." I turned my head back and handed him his change. He laughed bitterly and said, "remember when they called it 'gay cancer?'"
That what I need you to understand. The people for whom you are folding yourself into smaller and smaller boxes will never see you as anything but a freak. A queer. A dyke. A tranny. A fag.
Never.
These are people who will stand by and let you wither away and die alone, gasping for breath in a cinderblock room, and not even claim your ashes, and they will say you deserve it, because of your lifestyle. If they speak of you at all it will be by the wrong name, with the pictures you hate the most. They will curse at your lover, throw him out of the home you shared, and steal the gift you gave last Christmas to throw it in the trash just so he can't have it and they'll say Jesus loves you! while they do it. They'll feel good and righteous and blessed and holy and pure for doing it.
And for them, you spit in the eye of your sister. For them, you disavow your sibling. For their sake, you trim away bits of your heart and lace yourself up tight. Never too loud. Never too queer. Never inconvenient or embarrassing, never asking for too much.
Pete Buttigieg is what happens when your Boomer dad turns out gay. Middle America. Parents still married. Suburban-sprouted. Valedictorian. Harvard-educated. Rhodes Scholarship. Military service. More power to him: I hope he and Chasten are very happy together. Genuinely, I do.
You couldn't create a more respectable gay if you grew one in a lab run by concerned voter focus groups.
But Pete Buttigieg? Is just a fag.
That's the part you don't seem to get: when they abandoned us, they abandoned all of us. Rock Hudson was a beloved movie star and even personally friendly with that horrid pair of ambitious jackals. Nancy Reagan refused to help him get into the only place in the world that could treat him at the time, and he died.
It was 1985, 4 years after the CDC first released papers on what would eventually become known as HIV/AIDS and 7 years after the first known death from an infection from HIV-2. Reagan hadn't even said the word AIDS by the time Hudson died.
Pete Buttigieg is just a fag, and so am I. Unless I'm a dyke, which seems to depend on who's yelling what from which window and what day it is.
Yes, there will be people who genuinely love and accept you. Those people are worth all the frustration of the rest, thankfully, and they're the ones who love you in a pup mask or a leather harness and a neon jock like the ones sold by the men up the row from us last weekend. They're the ones who laugh out loud when you tell them you hid the word "dyke" in your company name, the ones who love you in all your messiness and uncertainty and the way you don't fit into neat boxes all scrubbed up and clean.
Most cishets, though... well, they don't actively mean you specifically any harm, at least not when they have to look at you. Not when you're right there in front of them. Maybe they'll be okay with you, personally, especially if you're the kind of gay who makes a good rhetorical device, and as long as you remain a good rhetorical device.
They need people to know that they don't have a problem with the gays, after all, and there you are, being all convenient. You make a nice token, and as long as you do, well. You're useful.
But they call you by your deadname when you're not around, and they put the wrong pronouns in your medical record even though they met you years after you came out, and they won't put themselves out to save you. Not one little bit.
I didn't want to be here again. The year I graduated from high school was the worst year of the AIDS crisis. The world into which I became an adult was a world in which an advisor and friend to Reagan, William F. Buckley, openly advocated for forcibly tattooing the HIV status of HIV+ gay men on their buttocks (and IV drug users on their forearms), and in which my father not only told me that when I was 14 or so, but when was told me that he'd advocated for that tattoo being "over their assholes."
(Buckley wrote that in '86, but he doubled down on it in 2005.
Fucker.)
But yeah. I didn't want to be here again. I wanted my daughter to inherit a better world. I wanted Obergefell and Lawrence v. Texas and Hope & Change to really mean something. I work for it, today and all days. I haven't given up.
I need you to know that, too. This isn't a white flag. I'm not surrendering. This isn't over. To misquote Henry Rollins, this is what Marsha and Sylvia and Stormé and Leslie and Brenda and Auntie Sugar trained us for. This is punk rock time.
But I need you to understand that if Pete Buttigieg is just a fag, if that human embodiment of a Wonder Bread, mayo and Oscar Meyer bologna sandwich is not respectable enough for them -- and he's not -- then the rest of us have absolutely no hope of measuring up. Not even if we trim away every colorful, beautiful piece of our community, not even if the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence vanish into the ether, not even if we sacrifice the five elements of vogue on the altar of white supremacist cishet middle-class conformity: we can't trim ourselves down to something they'll accept.
The only other option is radical acceptance of our queer selves. The only other option is solidarity. The only other option is for fats and femme queens and drags and kinksters and queers and zine writers and sex workers and furries and addicts and kids and the ones who can look us in the eye and see all of us to say we're here, we're queer, get used to it just the way we did 30 years ago. It's revolutionary, complete and total acceptance of our entire community, not just the ones the cishets can pretend to be comfortable with as long as we don't challenge them too much, or it's conceding the shoreline inch by inch to the rising waters of fascism until we've got nowhere left to stand and some of us start drowning.
That's it. Either it's all of us or it's none of us, because if we leave the answer up to the Reagans of the world and all the people who enabled him in the name of lower taxes and Democrats who wring their hands, weeping oh I don't agree with it but we'll lose the election if we fight it right now, the answer is none of us.
The brunch gays can come, too, I guess.
I was around 8 when my oldest sister got her drivers license and started volunteering at a local AIDS organization. Her best friend (then and now) was openly gay in the early 90s in small town America, and I think this is a large part of what sparked her desire to help. It wasn’t long after she started volunteering when she brought a new friend home for dinner. He was gay, he had AIDS, he was blind due to complications from that, and he was SO funny. We loved him. He came over for dinner quite a bit after that.
Some time later, his was the first funeral I ever went to. I was still in elementary school. And it wasn’t a real funeral because his mother had confiscated his ashes and almost of all his things, despite not having spoken to him for I don’t know how long. She certainly wasn’t the one caring for him when he was sick and dying. That was a friend (maybe partner? I don’t actually know). I don’t think I was even 10 when this showed me how hateful people could be.
We helped make a panel for him for the AIDS quilt. My sister went to a massive display of it at one point (maybe on the National Mall?), and I remember her recounting how she lost her shit at someone who stepped up to them and said something hateful. People were there to honor and mourn thousands of people who had died of AIDS, and someone used that as an opportunity to air their homophobia.
So I am totally with @vaspider - I agree with everything they say like 1000%
Thank you for sharing this.
I had no idea Freddie Mercury was gay. I just knew that Queen was a part of my life, and Innuendo seemed a little mournful for a Queen album but I figured it was just experimental and we would just get more music later.
Then he died. And I remember being in a hotel in Toronto, preparing for a job interview the next day, and I melted down. Just lost all of my shit for this guy that got me through high school and university. I remember watching documentaries about AIDS and not really understanding why people hated gays. Seriously, what the fuck, people...who cares who you have sex with? How is any of this anyone else's business?
So that was the day I started to pay attention.
The Reagans .... ah, fuck the Reagans. Vile disgusting troglodytes that spawned what's happening in the USA now, well if not spawned, certainly aided and abetted and enabled.
And now we've got Trump and RFK Jr....who quite openly want LGBTQ people to die. It's insane. Their preoccupation with the genitalia of others is obscene, given their own predilections, no?
Fuck YES, gay people, and bi people, lesbians, Trans, all of them. ALL OF THEM! Because they're people.... unlike Republicans in Congress and the Senate (and Fetterman, you piece of shit). Those are demonstrably not human. I look forward to the cleaning of the Washington Stables. C'mon, tell me Mamdani couldn't be Hercules.
Who's with me?
No. We're not putting that shit on my post.
Those are people. Those are human beings. We don't dehumanize others on my posts. No, not even that person.
Why? Well, because it's shitty, for one, but because not only does it create a category of "non human" that you can feel okay putting others into, but it gives you a way to feel that you couldn't possibly do the bad things that they do. After all, you're a human. That means the things you do must be better than what the non humans do.
They're bad people, but they're people. The minute you say "that's just a monster," you convince yourself that you're above what they do, and it becomes easier to justify your own misdeeds. It must be okay, what I'm doing, because I'm human.
They're human. They're just really fucking terrible humans.
Say it with me, y'all: if your values don't apply to everybody, they aren't your values. They are just a favor you do for the people that you like.
she's the best of us
The whole concept of migraine triggers is just perfectly suited for making disabled people who are already suffering waste time & energy obsessing over every single thing they do every day, especially their diets, and to then blame themselves for their attack like their problem is a lack of discipline & willpower and not the fact that they have a chronic illness. If you get migraines, that isn't because your lifestyle & diet isn't sufficiently optimized, it's because you have a migraine disorder.
My neurologist didn't waste any time trying to get me to identify triggers and just got me on the right meds as soon as she could and I'm so glad she never made me feel like it was somehow my fault.
I'm now finally on a preventative that works for me & I literally don't do anything differently but I went from having daily migraines to sometimes not having a single one for over a week. I could do & consume every supposed trigger & still not get a migraine, when before the medication, I could do everything "right" every day for a week & still get a migraine every single day.
It's always like it's a medical disorder that causes your body to react badly to certain normal daily things & the goal should be to make it do that less, not to find ways to totally avoid all those normal daily things.
Yeah...they're caused by migraine disorders. Because people without them don't get migraines on a regular basis.
The chocolate advice is probably bullshit too. Unless you specifically identify it as something that makes your migraines worse (unlikely), it's way more likely to just be a common craving people have during the prodrome phase before the pain starts. If it's your body signaling you that it wants chocolate, there's no reason not to eat it.
Also, my neurologist said if you take triptans, take them during the headache phase immediately when it starts, not during the aura.
This isn't just my opinion btw, it's the current state of migraine research that shows that a) evidence for the belief that specific foods can trigger an entire migraine in someone who would've otherwise not had it is just not there and b) people are prone to misidentifying "triggers" and c) some "common triggers" have been shown in research to have protective qualities against migraines in some people and finally, d) the most up to date approach is to, instead of chasing possible triggers, raise your migraine threshold, which for some people can be achieved only with medication, but stuff like exercise & a nutritious diet could possibly also help you become more resistant too, once your threshold has been raised enough that you have the spoons for it, that is.
Learn more about how “triggers” may actually be signs of migraine prodrome and why identifying migraine triggers is not always easy.
Sometimes when people attempt to carefully track and avoid all their triggers, it creates a sense of guilt. When we think about it this way, the burden is on the person with migraine to avoid their triggers, and people may feel that if they experience an attack, it’s because of their own behavior. “Many times it is just the disease,” says Dr. Halker Singh. “This is the unpredictable nature of migraine. I think we carry enough on our shoulders as it is without the added stigma or guilt [around triggers].” Instead, we can shift to a healthier conversation about awareness in migraine management by learning to recognize prodrome symptoms and early signs of a migraine attack. This puts the focus on a deeper, more personalized understanding of each individual’s own unique experience with migraine. “I think making that shift is a little bit freeing and allows us to separate ourselves from migraine,” says Dr. Halker Singh. “My personal relationship with my migraine changes a little bit—I can separate from my own guilt and say, ‘OK, this is happening, what can I do about it?’” This kind of shift enables someone with migraine to focus more on self-care and addressing what their body needs in the moment during an attack.
New research reveals that 82% of suspected migraine triggers may be false. Learn how science is challenging traditional beliefs about migrai
Your diet can sometimes impact your migraine. Learn which foods are suspected triggers and how to adjust what you eat to help prevent or rel
One study compared headache activity between two groups of people living with migraine while they followed different diets. One diet eliminated foods commonly thought to trigger migraine attacks, and the other diet required patients to eat those same foods. Interestingly, headache frequency improved on both diets. This suggests that particular foods are not likely to trigger an attack, but rather that following a consistent, healthy diet may itself be therapeutic. In other words, feeling that you have control over your headaches may improve your headache symptoms. It also suggests that no single food is a trigger for all people living with migraine.
There's lots of people in the tags going well my dad's uncles grandma cut X out of her diet & it cured her migraines.
If you're a chronic migraine haver please please learn to ignore all of that. There's always going to be people claiming that doing keto/paleo/gluten-free or cutting out seed oils/sugar/MSG and taking 15 different supplements cured their chronic illness and migraine is much the same. I'm not saying they're lying, they can absolutely believe that's what happened but it doesn't mean any of that is going to work for you nor do you have to try it.
I had some of my worst most painful headaches while on strong painkillers, at the hospital, eating only bland low sodium vegan hospital food and getting fluids straight into my veins because apparently, the stress of surgery & recovery made my migraine disorder worse. Despite me being on Emgality. That's just what being chronically ill is like sometimes, there's not much you can do. Some of us can't self-optimize ourselves out of it, despite what every armchair neurologist & dietitian seems to think.
Sometimes the stress of constant headaches & migraines is what's causing your migraines because it's an evil disorder.
[Image IDs: Image #1: Tumblr tags reading: at the start of the year we had this lecturer at work on health and safety and stuff, and the dude kept going on abt how migraines are always cause by something and how u cant rly get migraines for no reason, and like.... the 1st thing i got told back when i got diagnosed was that there isnt rly a specific trigger, yeah sure ive made some changes to my diet bc some stuff actively messes with me and also with my digestion at the same time lol, but beyond that ultimately personal choice of mine??, i only got told to take painkillers when ive got an aura and not eat chocolate whilst in a crisis lol
Image #2: Specific foods have often been thought to trigger migraine attacks in the past. For example, some commonly reported migraine triggers included alcohol (especially red wine and beer), chocolate, age cheese, cured meats, smoked fish, yeast extract, food preservatives that contrain nitrates and nitrites, artificial sweetners, and monosodium glutamate (MSG).
However, evidence for foods triggering migraine attacks is actually rare, and doctors now think that many commonly accepted food "triggers" are more likely food cravings experienced during the prodrome phase of an attack. Additionally, it's important to remember that migraine attacks are often due to multiple factors. When you're already stressed, not sleeping well, or not exercising, certain dietary factors may make it more likely to have a migraine attack—but in this case, it is the combination of all of these different things that contribute to the attack, not just one specific food. /End ID]
Look, sometimes you just need forty thousand words of comprehensively researched geopolitical worldbuilding in order to adequately contextualise a scene of two rival princesses angrily jerking each other off. That's totally normal.
Fuck it. I wanna see the two princesses jerking eachother off AND the 50 million words of geopolitical world building that props it up.

I went from being very physically active to getting the "your body doesn't make energy properly anymore" disability so I can completely understand the grief that comes with circumstances outside your control destroying parts of you you were once proud of and locking you out of the life you could have had. NO FEAR. The actors who played Long John Silver and Captain Flint in Black Sails FULLY ACKOWLEDGE that the Muppet adaptation was the best
(source)
hi i hope i get to be the one to break this news on Tumblr, because
I am reading Tim Curry’s 2025 memoir, Vagabond
and in it, he not only devotes a chapter to Muppet Treasure Island, but also references this very post
so, to recap
no, Tim Curry is absolutely NOT a Muppet; however
yes, he and Miss Piggy ABSOLUTELY fucked
“I have to ask this, and this is a difficult question to ask and I hope it’s not intruding too much on your personal life. If it is, forgive me in advance. So. Was there ever one great love of your life that got away? That you regret.”
“Sure. There always is.”
“Who is-”
“Miss Piggy.”
Wouldn’t even let him finish the question.
