A Short Post on #QRcode vs #NFC vs #AR.
Some tech insiders say that QR codes won’t take off because augmented realtiy or NFC will replace them. Let’s see then, how these technologies will effect QR-code usage?
Augmented reality is when the real world is overlayed with digital data. There are apps, like Layar that does this, and it’s an interesting technology in deed. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that NFC is quite an expensive game, while QR-codes are extremely cheap – it costs what it costs to print the codes. So let’s not bury the QR-code technology.
NFC, or Near Field Communication, is a wireless technology that allows you to exchange data from a 4 cm distance between two NFC-capable devices. The big advantage is that you can pay with it securely. Generally, Augmented reality enhances the real world, NFC empowers it with some features, while QR-codes are simply connecting certain points of the real world to the digital one.
Use QR-codes what they’re good for - linking the physical world to the digital one. We’ll see the future, but one thing is sure: neither of the above mentioned new technologies will not be able to beat down these simple little mazes in price.
Remy Martin thinks an NFC bottle cap is the key to authentic cognac
We hope you like your cognac “connected”. Remy Martin’s wants to give its drinkers with “rewards beyond only its dense rich flavors.” That apparently corresponds to an NFC tag built into each bottle to ensure it’s a…

How to encode NTAG213 TT and activate TT feature
Since Tumblr’s already declaring me a wizard for this post, here’s how to do it yourself!
You’ll need an Android device with NFC reading support and the free app Automate.
1. Press the + button to create a new flow.
2. Tap the tool button on the upper right to see a menu with all the blocks you can add. Look for the “NFC Tag Scanned” block in the Connectivity tab and drag it to the right.
3. Open the new block and type in a name for the “Scanned tag id” variable. I will use NFCTag. Set the tag type as “Any”. Tap “Done” and drag the block’s IN end to the previous block’s OK end.
4. Go to the block menu, look for the “Expression true?” block in the General tab and add as many as amiibos you want to be recognized.
5. Set the blocks up like this. Type in “NFCTag = “(tag id)” “ in each of these blocks. We’ll need to figure out the unique ID of each amiibo in order for them to be recognized.
6. Tap the Scanned NFC tag placed earlier and then “Read tag…”. Copy the ID to your clipboard and paste it in the corresponding block.
7. From here on, you can assign any task to be executed when the device scans an amiibo. I’m going to set it up to change the wallpaper and play a sound like the video.
Add the “Wallpaper image set” block within the Settings tab in the block menu, select a picture from your phone and link it to the corresponding block. Then, add the “Play sound” block from the Camera & Sound tab and link it to the wallpaper block. Select the “Notification” audio stream and pick a sound from your phone. You might need to install an external file browser for this last part.
8. After assigning a task to each amiibo, link back every end to the “Scanned NFC Tag” block to prevent the flow from stopping after every scan.
9. Tap the Done button. Press the pencil icon and Properties to set a name and a description and install any permissions it might need (you’ll be taken to a Google Play page for each one).
10. Press Start and enjoy! C:

NFC sensors make great smart home/IoT triggers allowing you to connect your physical space to your cloud services and smart things in creative new ways. But there aren’t a lot of free and easy ways to do this. Here is a anybody-can-do-it-yourself way to trigger your IFTTT recipes with the NFC sensor on you Android phone.
Near Field Communication: Google’s Newest Play Ground
The plan to change (and conquer) the way you shop is already underway with Google leading the pack with it’s Near Field Communication (NFC) and Virtual Wallet Technology on Android smartphones.
The idea is looking to change the retail experience as much - and more than - what Square has already done for vendors. Soon enough, all your cards - credit and others - will be in Google virtual wallet. Need to buy something? Simply wave your Android over a PayPass and the deed is done.
What will this transform? Well, with everyone taking to the cloud, your receipts, warranties and even purchasing habits will all be kept somewhere digitally for you. Is this good or bad? That remains to be seen, however, with many companies such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 providing extensive “after-market” downloadable content on it’s games, or Amazon’s Kindle ebooks needing to be stored somewhere, the integration to a greater digitized world is beginning to weigh even more.
But with NFC also comes greater social integration and possibilities. Instead of RFID chips, could NFC be used to check you into your favorite coffee shop? Could it alert you to a friends’ proximity? Could it engage you with a local Groupon deal or a social gaming community near you?
With greater digitization and smaller technology, the trend is heading this way. After all, if you carry that sleek tablet, why would you carry a wallet to?
But that’s your call…
