taylor: who could stay????
me, sobbing in the corner of my room:
there’s something so wholesome about taylor releasing her diaries and then turning them into our diaries because that’s what she’s been doing with her music her entire career like those songs were about her and her life and she lets them out into the world and we make them our own and make our own memories for each of them. who else is emotional
A dreamy song that makes me wanna go on a sunset drive but also makes me wanna fill the bathroom with candles, sit in the tub and cry for days? The archer is mINE. Back off.
The archer is really driving late night though city tunnels as the world gets smaller in your rear view mirror, the window down, hair blown back as your heart is heavy in your chest and the only light is the one emitting from the dashboard
🥺🥺🥺🥺
The archer is for everyone who’s been hurt before and sworn to never ever give someone the chance to hurt you again, so you walk through life armed and ready but a piece of you is dying cuz you won’t ever let your heart truly live so you start to hate who you’ve become until one day you begin the journey of stripping yourself of some of that armor until you can finally breathe again.
I have never heard a song that so accurately captures the complex and confusing feeling of simultaneously feeling your insecurities and recognizing that you might be leaning into them/self-destructive behavior, and how the horrible things you’ve been through make it difficult not to see clouds behind every good thing….do you see right through me? I see right through me
Also, I have never ever heard imposter syndrome written in a song before…first, it’s “they see right through me,” how people can put you down….and then you worry if the person you love might see through you too, if all of these other people did… “do you see right through me?’…to “I see right through me” of feeling like maybe all of those enemies and mean people were right, feeling like you’re some kind of an imposter….just three lines and it depicts such a complex emotional situation
the way her voice sounds so vulnerable like she’s singing in an empty room... the fragility in her voice sounding much like delicate.... the constant beat throughout the song illustrating the feeling of continual anxiousness that makes the listener feel vulnerable themselves.... the soft ethereal instrumentals that never crescendo or fade and instead just remain constant, sounding a bit like the pastel colours that decorate the sky after a storm.... the abrupt numbing sound at the very end...... i personally think the production of the archer is absolutely phenomenal and my hat goes off to jack AND taylor for creating such a real, raw, deep-cut and beautifully vulnerable song. it’s absolutely everything. everything.
“Sometimes I get this overwhelming urge to light a match and set everything on fire. As the smoke escapes my cracked lips and my fingers shake with the badly lit cigarette between my two fingers, I imagine what it’d be like to watch as everything I claim to love burns to ashes. This city is too quiet. This city judges me. This city doesn’t feel like home. What even is home to me anymore? In my bubble of self-destruction, I even imagine myself amidst the flames. Hot, fiery lava just erupting out of my fragile bones leaving debris in every corner I turn. As the embers crackle in the air, I imagine myself thinking, “finally some noise in this dead city.” So I scream as loud as my decaying lungs let me and thrust my arms up to the sky. Then, I take a step out of the demolition and watch. Watch as everything I’ve ever known and could never get myself to love, burns to a tiny pile of ash. I pick it up with two shaking hands and lather it all over my body. “Finally”, I think, “some colour in this dead soul.””

for lover tour can we organize some sort of yelling of “we could stay” during the archer please and thank you
YES YES YES
My favorite thing about The Archer is just how different it sounds than anything she’s done before. It’s got the synthiness of 1989 but it’s so much more ethereal and haunting and beautiful and I feel like I should be walking through an empty mall in the 80s
the archer is for winter nights alone in your bedroom; it’s for late night drives down empty roads; it’s for cloudy afternoons with a tinge of sunshine in the park; it’s for crying on the bathroom floor all alone; it’s for every fleeting moment of fragility; it’s for every feeling of loneliness and emptiness; it’s simply a wonderful, beautiful escape.
on a serious note, archer just hits differently. it feels like all those nights you cry yourself to sleep, all those nights you ask yourself why are you yourself and all of those nights you spend listing all your flaws, put into a incredibly soft, hearbreaking melody and haunting words embed with depth that leave your heart aching. her voice is like a warm blanket that you wrap yourself into on those nights, it's is what gives you comfort and what makes you feel like you are not alone. it is one of taylor's most beautiful songs, lyrically and melodically, and most important, emotionally.
very bold of taylor to ask who could stay when she knows i signed a legally binding contract to fight dragons with her until the end of time
A happy meal 🍔 🍟 💗
THIS IS DEFINITELY A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR ALL OF US
