Will’s work phone had been buzzing non stop, had over a thousand unread emails and messages and also a ridiculous amount of reminders and calendar alerts popping up. The man was close to just throwing the damn thing in the ocean, but he knew his father would kill him if he dared. Instead he did what he came to the island to do; drink away his responsibilities. This resulted in terrible hangovers, such as the one that he was currently nursing as he sat at an outside bar, his head buried in his arms as it rested on the bartop. “Don’t get the tequila, it’s a trap,” he warned through a croaky voice as he felt someone sitting down on the stool next to his.
Nia had felt lonely, which sucked seeing that she was on an island full of people looking for their soulmate. She was far out of her comfort zone of just talking to her two best friends from high school. She had avoided meeting new people for long enough, so she decided to go to the bar and try to make a new friend. Nia sat down at one of the only empty stools that had a person next to it. “Oh, I was just going to get sloe gin,” she shrugged.
The beaches here are nothing short of beautiful, if a bit crowded at times. Anyone know of some more secluded spots?
“You might find one or two if you go looking for caves.”
A small tsk sound exited Anthony’s lips while he shook his head at the young woman feeling the need to tease her a bit for her answer. “What if you end up making it worse though and I end up with a super weird looking scar?” He jested lightly holding back his toothy grin by biting down on his bottom lip. “I think gauze and medical tape will do just fine though honestly.” Tony reached into his bag to grab out some tape looking down at the dirty gauze before tossing it into the bin by the door. “That’s a lot of family members, but I suppose it’s nice?” He inquired surprisingly interested in their conversation. Nice to meet him. He hadn’t heard that one in awhile.it almost threw him for a loop in fact and then he recovered just as quickly. “You to… So do you just randomly walk around hoping to find injured people?”
“I thought guys liked having scars? Don’t they make you seem more like a badass or give you a conversation topic over Thanksgiving dinner?” Nia could feel her cheeks getting hot, so she looked down at her feet for a moment. “I probably wouldn’t be conscious after the first stitch anyway,” she added. “Have you at least cleaned the wound? You wouldn’t want to lose your arm from a nasty infection.” Nia shrugged, but nodded at his words, “It can be at times. There’s always someone to talk to or cry with. When I was a freshman, I had this boyfriend who was a junior and I honestly thought we were in love. It turns out that he was only dating me because I did his homework and let him touch my boobs. My brothers beat the crap out of him when they found out, and I was mad at first, but now I get it. Having a big family has it’s perks.” She squinted her eyes at his question and shook her head, “Yeah, I totally have a fetish for injured people I don’t know,” she replied sarcastically. Normally, Nia shied away from small talk with strangers. She was usually a stammering, shaking mess when she had to talk to people, but this time she didn’t even have to talk to him.
“Three times? You’re pretty conservative,” smiled the man as he poured another for himself. “Cheers,” he smiled as he toasted her. “I’m Xavier.”
“No, I just don’t like being drunk.” Nia nodded at his toast and took the shot quickly. She winced at the burn as the liquid poured down her throat, “Nia,” she told him and held out her hand.
His brow furrowed as his smile grew. “Well, aren’t you particular about what you’re drinking?” chuckled the man. “Hey, I’m Xavier. Welcome to paradise,” he replied, offering her up a glass of the amber liquid.
“I don’t handle alcohol well,” she shrugged. “I’ve only been drunk, like, three times.” Nia took the glass from him, “Thanks.”
Shaking his head immediately there was no way he was stepping foot into an ER just for a minor cut on his shoulder. “You’ve sewn people up before? If you’re good with a needle I don’t mind… Pain really isn’t an issue.” Anthony spoke staring up at the female. “I don’t have siblings, so I never had to really deal with the whole cockroach aspect of it, but I have dealt with some nasty people that deserved the nickname.” Anthony found himself laughing along with her and then he stopped realizing what he had done. “Strangers make for the best conversations– sometimes. But I’m Anthony.”
“No, I’ve never sewn a person, but I do know how to sew I can give it a shot if you want, or I can just go look for some gauze and medical tape.” Nia nodded, “You’re lucky. I have five siblings and they’re all older than me. So they’re either annoyingly protective or jerks,” she shrugged. She shivered suddenly and wrapped her arms around her waist, “I guess that’s true. It’s nice to meet you, Anthony.”
“They can stay cool in style. It’s not that hard – unless they lack of sense of style.”
“Shorts and a t-shirt are good enough for me.”
“Sweetheart, the world is a very cold and harsh place. You’ve got to develop a thicker skin if you want to survive, because no one really gives a shit how you feel except mommy and daddy, and even then it’s because they’re biologically forced to care about you. Just accept it and grow the fuck up before you make yourself look pathetic.”
Nia pressed her lips together and her eyes widened, “You’re an ass,” was all she said before she turned around and left the store.
“It’s called being honest, not rude. But go ahead and run away- you’re being no help anyway.”
“If you offend someone or hurt someone’s feelings, you’re being rude not honest. I never asked for your opinion or your thoughts. You should really think about how your words may affect people before you just blurt them out.”
“Oh trust me honey it shows. You probably shop off of clearance racks too, don’t you? We’ll shop for you after I’m done figuring out what I’m going to buy.”
“You are an incredibly rude person,” Nia whispered. “I’m just going to leave...”
“This has nothing to do with my sex life. It’s about if I look hot, which I do,” Raze said simply, scoffing slightly. “What’s the point in inviting a female if they give useless opinions?”
“I’ve never worn lingerie. I don’t even wear bra’s really,” Nia shrugged her shoulders and half-frowned. “I think you invited the wrong person. Not my fault.”
“i went into PUBLIC today after sitting in a palette. my ass looked like a rainbow and i thought it just looked good in these jeans. despite the fact they are my shitty paint jeans. i didn’t realize how bad i’d fucked up until i sat on a bench and left my obvious mark.”
“I’d say that’s considerably less embarrassing than some other things that could have happened. The people who saw you will tell their friends today and forget about it tomorrow. You’ve got nothing to worry about. Promise.”
“I asked you here for opinions on if this would get me fucked, not so you could judge me on the fact that I’m shopping in the female lingerie section. So either shut up and tell me I look hot or make yourself useful and go get me another coffee.”
“I’m sorry, I just don’t care much for your sex life. You look pretty good, if that counts for anything?”
“I just came here few days ago and all this so called summer fashion around me burned my eyes already.”
“I’m sure people are more concerned with staying cool than following the newest trends.”
Startled by the sudden voice Anthony looked up from the cut on his arm, bottom lip snug between his top teeth. “Uh thanks, I think… I mean this is already a lot of pressure in my opinion.” He responded while sparing a glance back at his arm and maybe applying a bit more pressure to it. Raising his left eyebrow and cocking his head to the left Tony listened to her story til the end of it with a hint of a laugh escaping him. “Doesn’t sound like he was the brightest crayon in the box.”
Her mouth formed a small ‘o’ and she shrugged, “You might need stitches if the bleeding won’t stop. I know how to sew if you don’t want to a hospital, but that would hurt like a bitch,” Nia offered, only mostly joking. She tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, “Yeah, he was pretty dumb. Well, is dumb. He’s still alive, shockingly. He’s like the cockroach of people.” She shook her head with a laugh, “I don’t know why I’m telling you this. I don’t even know your name. I’m Nia, in case you were wondering.”
he let out a quiet chuckle at that. “i wouldn’t want to go fishing for one but i think it’d be cool to go scuba diving and see one even though it’s really dangerous.” and there was a slight chance he had already started compiling a list of things he’d need to do that. “c’mon you look tougher than that, i don’t think you’d pass out.”
Nia blushed and looked down at her lap, “No, I know...I was just trying to make a joke,” she shrugged. “But scuba diving to see an octopus? That sounds kind of thrilling. I’d never do that, though.” Nia wasn’t really the type to step out of comfort zones. “Trust me, I’m not. I still cry when I have to get shots and I’m 21. I’m insanely weak,” Nia laughed softly. “So, do you have any other amazing facts about the ocean? I’ll have to start taking notes so I can share them with my kids.”
