ATTENTION COSPLAYERS:
I would like to make the paint brand “Angelus” known. It is a special paint that is for leather, faux leather, rubber, and similar surfaces.
This is literally the best paint you can buy if you love a pair of shoes, but they aren’t in the right color for your character.
This stuff coats VERY well AND the coats of paint bend with your shoes. This means no cracking!!
In the photos above I took black rain boots and painted them with Angelus Turquoise. As you can see, they don’t look black any more! It’s so good!
I managed to paint two boots with a little one ounce bottle of the paint, and I still have a third of the bottle left over!
The paint dries very fast, so you can put layer on top of layer on top of layer without it streaking.
You can get the paint on Amazon and it comes in every color!
I just really wanted to make this known!! :D This stuff is amazing!
https://angelusdirect.com/collections/paint
Don’t buy Angelus pain’t on Amazon, it’s like $6.99 an ounce. Buy it direct from their online store the poster above linked, the single ounce bottles are $2.95 there. Also, a little goes a long way, unless you have something HUGE to paint, you can probably do it with a small bottle. I barely dented the one I got doing all the black on this;

Wig Hack Wednesday #4 ! Today I wanna introduce a no-sew-no-glue method to add volume to your wig with a jumbo braid (or braiding hair). Using this method will save you time and money because you’ll be getting more bang for your buck! Jumbo braids are pretty cheap and can range from around $2-$8 depend on quality of the hair fiber. Usually, they are used to add thickness to braid hairstyles, but you can use it for any “big-hair” hairstyle, really. Be careful when using hair dryer or heat tools with jumbo braids because they cannot stand as much heat-styling as other wig fibers. For this tutorial, I’m using a jumbo braid in marshmallow from Arda Wigs. - Untie the end of the jumbo braid. Separate and cut a small piece of weft from it. Keep in mind that you’ll need the piece to be double of the length you would want for the final product because you will be folding the piece in half. - Use a crochet hook to go under the elastic band of the wig and grab the folded hair - Bring the hook back through the same hole, making sure the latch closes before you pull it through the hole - Grab the hair with your fingers, twist it once and hold - Bring the hair from the hanging side and pull it through the twisted loop without tightening the loop - Bring the loop to the opposite side and twist it again - Pull the hair from the hanging side through the loop again - Pull and tighten the knot so it’s as small as possible - Keep adding more hair to the other elastics and different sections of the wig. You can tease it for more volume!
I used this method to make a Sage Madara (Naruto) wig and it produced great result with high volume but still very light-weight. I hope this helps you create cool wigs with super volume at low cost (looking at Steven Universe people…lol )

How to sew inside pocket with rounded welt + free pocket pattern
I love to add inside pockets to my outers and it’s really useful. I everytime hope womens wears have this kind of pockets more. Recently I made my Bamboo coat with a rounded inside pocket (the fluffy white one above) and today, share the pattern and how to sew here. I actually intended to use this for inside pockets, but you can apply other places like side seams. You can download the pocket pattern here.
How to sew inside pocket with rounded welt
<Cut / Markings / Interfacing>
Prepare the pieces above in the photo. Decide the pocket place as you wish and mark the place on the Front Facing and Front Lining. Press interfacing between fold lines of the Pocket Pouch Front. This place will be the welt. Normally we press interfacing to pocket open part, too, but generally facing pieces are fully interfaced already, so we can skip this step. *The photo shows only left side parts. *I use square shaped fabric pieces instead of the bodice lining and facing pieces for the explanation.
<Fold Pouch Front piece>
Fold and crease the fold lines of the pocket Pouch Front piece like a bellows.
<Attach the Pocket Pouch Front piece to the Lining piece>
Open the folded part. Place the Pocket Pouch Front piece on the pocket place of the Lining piece right sides together. Stitch the rounded pocket open line as shown in the photo.
Trim the seam allowance and clip the curve.
Turn the right side out and shape with an iron tip.
<Attach the Pocket Pouch Back piece to the Facing piece>
Place the Pocket Pouch Back piece on the pocket place of the Facing piece right sides together. Stitch the seam line with 6mm seam allowance as shown in the photo.
Turn the Pocket Pouch piece out and press.
<Connect the Facing and Lining pieces>
Put together the Facing and Lining pieces right side together. Sew the seam line until the pocket open edges.
Fold the fold lines on the Pouch Front piece again like bellows.
You can see the folded part makes the welt from the right side. Shape and fix the welt and top stitch along the rounded line. Make sure you do not stitch the Pouch Back piece.
<Sew Front and Back Pocket Pouch>
Wrong side up, press the seam allowance to lining side. Layer the Front and Back Pocket Pouch pieces and double stitch the outline. *Depending on the thickness of your fabric, the pieces might not line up correctly. Do not forcibly match the seam lines, simply line up the pieces in a way that avoids wrinkles or warps.
<Finishing>
Bar tack on the both side of the pocket open (optional).

Full guide here.
You guys have asked for a dye guide and here it is! We used Rit DyeMore fabric dye, Rit’s line for polyester/synthetic materials (not to be confused with just Rit Dye). It is far more pigmented as a wig toner than their standard blends since it was developed for plastics.
Swatches were made using our Classic White wefts (keep in mind that if you’re dyeing a wig other than white, the dye will not cancel out the original color but mix with it. ex: If you dye a yellow wig with blue dye, you will get a green wig).
300 mL (1.3 cups) of water was used with 19.7 mL (4 tsp) of dye. Water was kept at a LIGHT SIMMER (180F/82C), NOT rolling boil (212F/100C). Color took more evenly when water was at a simmer.
Individual swatches were placed in the simmering water at 1 second, 5 seconds, 1 minute, and 5 minutes.
Colors may turn out differently for you depending on concentration of dye, heat, time boiled, and how the wig gods are feeling that day.
It’s important to ALWAYS do swatch tests before dying your full wig. In addition, in the event that your fibers become curly after dyeing them, please use a regular flat iron (avoid chi irons) on low heat setting to straighten them.
Happy dyeing!
Metal Weathering
This tutorial is for weathering common metals. It is done in a reverse style where the weathering is put on first and metal put over top, rather than weathering on top of the metal.

Here’s a “life-hack” for you. Apparently concentrated Kool-Aid can be used as a pretty effective leather dye. I was making a drink while cutting the snaps off some new straps for my pauldrons and I got curious, so I tried it, thinking, “ok even if this works, it will just wash out.” Nope. It took the “dye” (undiluted) in about 3 seconds. After drying for about an hour and a half, it would not wash off in the hottest tap-water. It would not wash out after soaking for 30 minutes. It did not wash out until I BOILED it, and even then, only by a tiny bit and it gave it a weathered look that was kind of cool. Add some waterproofing and I’d wager it would survive even that. That rich red is only one application too. Plus it smells great, lol. So there you go, cheap, fruity smelling leather dye in all the colors Kool-Aid has to offer.
WELL THEN!
this may be important to some of my followers *and certainly not just getting reblogged because of my costuming and my boyfriends desire for leather armor*
When I was in middle school we used to use it to dye our hair. Potent stuff.
If you’re dying anything with kool-aid it’s best to use SUGAR-FREE ones otherwise the thing you’re dying might get all sticky
the flavor only packets where you are supposed add sugar are the best. they will dye any natural fiber: leather, wool, cotton, hair, flax, jute, silk and so forth. heat the dye water so it is more potent. let dry then rinse excess out in cold water. there’s a whole system to this.
Oh my god
This will prove very useful for any future cosplays I wanna do.
