I started Fallout 3 and found that if you travel to the small city of Megaton you get to meet a sketchy but interesting character: Mr Burke.
For those of you who have already played the game you know he’s a downright heartless villain (unless you flirt with him, then he goes through a total 180 ftw) but what’s interesting about him is that he’s said to be based off Lucien Lachance from Oblivion, even written by the same writer (who wrote the storyline for the Dark Brotherhood) and voiced by the same voice actor.
Now here are some spoilers, but I won’t talk about the different endings of the quest until the very end in case some of you want to find out in the game for yourself:

The Power of the Atom
Basically, Mr Burke wants you to destroy the entire town of Megaton via detonating a giant freaking nuke that sits dormant in the middle of it. But why?? What about all the innocent folk who live there? More importantly, why the hell is there even a town built around this damn thing in the first place?!
Megaton was important to me- it was the very first town I stumbled into after my first long night of survival out in the horrific unforgiving wasteland: my leg was crippled, I had been evading and battling psycho animals and raiders, AND I was poisoned by radiation… things were not good. But once I was in Megaton I was immediately welcomed by the friendly and accepting Lucas Simms, the town’s sheriff, who gives me an intro to the town as well as an offer to help disarm the giant atom bomb that sits in the middle of it. Aside from the dormant doom device I was beyond relieved and deemed Megaton my life-saving oasis.
After spending the day exploring as much as I could about this place I entered Moriarty’s saloon, an unbecoming tin shack perched atop the highest point of this odd community. In the corner of it was a man sitting alone in a 50s era business suit, beckoning me over.
“My, my,” he drawls,
“Just when I had all but given up hope!” It was that all-too familiar and distinct voice.
That is Mr Burke, and from there the rest is history. I’ll keep this story short: it’s down to two main choices…you either detonate the nuke or disarm it. (But of course like any rpg there’s different courses of action and endings but I’m only going to mention the main evil ending)
So here are the spoilers for the ending if you go down the “dark path”.
Why does Mr Burke want the peaceful town of Megaton wiped off the map? Because Burke serves as the right hand man for a rather powerful and wealthy landowner named Allistair Tenpenny, a wrinkly ol’ bastard who considers Megaton a mere “eyesore”. So, Post-apocalyptic Lucien- I MEAN Mr Burke, makes it his mission to find a way to eradicate the entire town. Hmmmm…… sounds like a certain dark secret brotherhood mission doesn’t it? Though possibly even more evil than usual.
Then when you question Tenpenny himself towards the very end of the quest he tells you he suggested Burke evacuate the townsfolk before detonation, but when you speak to Burke about it he makes it very clear that he doesn’t want a *single* soul to know about the plan. He’s adamant that every citizen MUST DIE.
I’d once read a comment on a youtube gameplay that said it was so that he could send more souls to the Void. Honestly, that’s probably why.
But yeah that’s the gist of it- if you go down the path of seduction where you seduce him with the Black Widow perk he starts to send you love letters of all things, but (((spoilers))) by the very final letter he reluctantly breaks up with you, ghosting you for good. Really dude, you’ve already “ghosted” us once in Oblivi-…. anyway…it’s cool finding links between these games, the first one I found in this one was sweetrolls!! cuz you get one on your birthday- I was so elated— sweetrolls were my fave treat in all of Tamriel. Nice to see they made it all the way to the US of A.
