Ming China- 1368-1644 by John W. Dardess
arguably one of the best American-born Chinese historians (Ming). I recently bought the e-book and it has been especially helpful in understanding the flow of history and answering questions that have previously been not so clear in my mind. Worth it 100%.
He has also wrote plenty of other books which are also worth a shot.

Ming dynasty imperial headdress (Phoenix crown)
The phoenix crown, a type of embellished headdress was worn both by nobles and commoners (in different forms*) in festive or official occasions as well as in weddings
It is a very interesting headpiece as it was worn from the empress down to the peasants
*the number of phoenixes changed and the type of adornments— worn strictly and distinctively so one could determine rank.
