so this is kind of just me talking/ranting and kind of a book review. i just finished reading the perks of being a wallflower for the first time (i dont know HOW ive never read it before) and oh my god i know it gets recommended a lot and it's such a classic and it's so so so so so well respected and loved and acclaimed but i feel like it's somehow still underrated. so i just feel the need to contribute to the obsession.

i think the best way to put how much i loved and was affected by this book is that, usually, when i feel like a book has affected me or when i really enjoy a book, it makes me want to go and read more books or write or something like that and that's great, but finishing the perks of being a wallflower made me really really want to go and, like, live in the world and be human and see and experience everything.

i know this goes for pretty much anyone alive, but i relate to charlie so deeply. like, my... though process, i guess, is a mixture of emotions, pictures, and internal monologue, but most of the time i dont pay much attention to my internal monologue because the emotions and pictures are more prominent. but hearing charlie's internal monologue, i was like, i have felt exactly this way before. and i love hearing other people who feel the same way.

i think part of what makes the book so beautiful is that the moments that books and real-life people often dismiss are treated so wonderfully and so vividly and with so much beauty, whereas a lot of the things that are (completely rightfully) usually taken so heavily are written exactly as is. it's so reflective of how it feels to be human sometimes. and it gives a lovely discussion on why we care about all those big things, and what in our nature makes us care like that. and the other thing that's so beautiful is that there's no need to explain so many things that happens and that he feels because it's just something everyone can understand, and that makes me think that everyone probably gets a drastically different experience from it because everyone will naturally interpret it differently.

anyway, there's always a lot more to say, but that's all for now. i want to start writing about the things i read more often, even if it's just incoherent rants like this lmao.
