the oldest of the beckett children, nicola, her life had been as normal as it could be, a woman loved and cherished by her parents, with her dreams supported every step of the way with the best that they could, her successes, failures, every bump and turn of the road. they have protected her their whole life, at the same time, has exposed her to how the world vastly changes by the second, having her run along the pace, afraid that she might be able to catch up. at the same time, nicola has been protective of her younger sister, savannah, the two were inseparable, but had different views of their parents. as they were hands on with nicola, they somehow had been different with the other. she realized it at a young age, and in her own ways, nicola tried to fill in the gaps that were left by their parents, though, she knew that a sister’s love is incomparable with the love of their parents, so she only understood the way that savannah had been.
they have lived in harlow estates most of her life, and they wanted to get their daughter out of there, have a future entirely different from theirs, do the things that she’s dreamt for her life. different that it came to the point that they have made sure she has crossed paths with the man she was going to love. a friend who owed one to her father before he moved away, lauren sloane. a number of years older than her, she defied her first, a lot. they would be in a verbal tussle, with her only winning a handful of times. nevertheless, the two have bonded unexpectedly well, she learned a lot from her not just about her soon-to-be love of firefighting, but also the woman herself. beneath the authority she would always show, it was the charm under it that she had unexpectedly dug and got pulled by it.
the woman has been accepted into the fire academy by herself, regardless of having her, she didn’t want to abuse the connection they have, yet she wanted to learn from lauren, knowing how she was loved and respected by a lot of firefighters, she wanted to work for and gain that kind of respect by herself, in which he had observed. she had this amount of optimism in her, no matter how hard and rigorous her training was, plus the fact that there was still discrimination towards women firefighters, she had battled through that and achieved her dream.
along with it, nicola’s love for lauren inevitably grew, with how much she supported her and believed in her throughout the way

everything has been arranged, a small celebration to commemorate their union, members of their family and friends have gathered to where the two have first met. she was ready to face this chapter of her life. the woman had volunteered to pick her up along with her from their home, whilst the rest of the guests waited at the venue. hours went by, everyone grew worried, and less and less of being optimistic. it wasn’t long before one of her close friends received a phone call and discovered the tragic fate they met.

the sloane couple got obliterated by the accident in a split second, though lauren did her best to fight, with everything she had left in her. she was still able to get nicola out of the car, and was still able to look at her, aware, not anymore denying of where this was about to go, that she was not going to last long. she took his last breath with a kiss for the woman, who still held on to her to the end.
along with the loss of lauren, she lost her parents too, just as her sister was making her way back to hidehill, and instead of a wedding she was going to arrive to, it was the funeral of their parents.
nicola had to lose everything to gain everything, oblivious to the fact that the tragedy wasn’t much of an accident after all, it was a cover-up of something that would’ve destroyed lauren’s squeaky-clean reputation if it were to come out, something she hasn’t been honest about with nicola when she was still alive.
nicola didn’t last long working in a place where she was much connected to lauren the most, though it took years before she eventually handed in her resignation and looked for something else, focus on things where she didn’t have to see her everywhere she looked, and that was where she found la vela, along with it, andi, who immediately hired her and now she’s working as head of security detail of the club.
