“That wasn’t very convincing. I feel like we need to talk about us,” he gave a faux concerned look. “Maybe I’ll throw it so fast it will be a blur. Do I not look like an athlete to you?”
“We can find a therapist for that later, but I am a little bit offended you don’t fully think I trust you,” she narrowed her eyes at him, playing along. “When was the last time you did anything active, other than your job or sex?”

“If I wanted to be remembered forever, not sure it’s for this, but I guess it could be worse,” she shrugged. “I just need my hands on some booze, honestly. I think a little eyelash flutter will do the trick though,” she pretended to give it some thought, looking at the man by the door.
“It would’ve been way worse if you had actually gone up to the doorman with throbbing bananas,” she teased. Nico looked over at the man and tilted her head, eyeing him for a moment. “You should do it, I think he’ll let you through and I’ll slip along with you.”

“Oh yeah, of course. And I’m happy to play with you. I didn’t mean to come off as judgy, I hope you know,” she quickly backtracked. “Hey, at least this means I stand a decent chance at winning, right?”
“Don’t worry about it, I’m not offended. It takes a lot to offend me that easily,” she admitted. With the way her mom was so stern growing up and her career, Nico had grown quite the backbone. “Oh are you an expert at cornhole? Because I may be rusty but I’m super competitive and once that side is out, I’m ruthless.”

“You’re only saying that because you beat me, but if I remember correctly I used to crush you at this game. And now you owe a drink.”

“At least I could make someone feel accomplished in my stupidity,” she huffed, shaking her head. “That’s not a bad idea. I was trying to go about this the right way, but honestly, maybe I just flirt with the doorman a little.”
“They’ll remember you forever,” she chuckled. “Flirting might get you somewhere or bribery. I was also willing to just hand out a twenty so I could access a quieter space. Quieter than the kids running around that is, I’m sure it’s not super quiet in there either.”

“I mean no disrespect, but…it is just cornhole. I hope you have other opportunities to unwind and do more fun things than tossing bags at holes.”
“I know it’s sad! I just thought one game wouldn’t hurt and it’s not like I do this all the time you know? I think the last time I played was as a kid. My work keeps me busy most of the time so when I do have time it’s either winding down with a glass of wine or going out to eat with friends.”

"Fine, I trust you.” She rolled her eyes. “You do realize that I can see you throwing things when the time comes right? I obviously won’t know the history behind it, but I’ll see the item. Or items.”

“It does when you hear it out of context, the lie behind it was really convincing,” Rowan huffed, a little laughter falling. “I haven’t yet. It’s miserable. Do you have it for me? No more lies, please.”
“They probably rehearsed it over and over to really get someone and you fell, they must be proud,” she laughed softly. “I wish I had better news for you, but I do not. I’ll probably just end up sneaking in with another group that has it. But honestly, it probably has something to do with fire.”

“Yeah, of course. I’d be happy to,” she nodded with a smile. “Did your friends run off looking for the password to the speakeasy?”
“Great,” she smiled and moved to her spot. “Yeah, anyone who is old enough to drink wants to be in there. I don’t blame them but then I wanted to play. It’s not every day you get to unwind and have this kind of fun, you know?”

“Throbbing bananas seems pretty obvious that it’s not the password,” she laughed. “That being said, did you get the actual password after all?”

“Oh so I should worry, great.” She teased, taking a step back from the fire. “What are you burning anyway?”
