"Didn't you learn this in school?" is the worst, most insidious form of academic elitism because it
Assumes all people have equal access to education
Assumes all schools have equal access to curriculum
Assumes all teachers teach the curriculum in a way all brains can understand
Assumes all brains retain the same exact information for the same exact amount of time (usually forever)
Is considered socially acceptable in the sense of "obviously I'm just joking/just curious" (which is a problem in and of itself)
(i hope its okay for me to add on a personal example)
due to my disability, i am completely unable to go to school. it is physically impossible for me. and the very short amount of tutoring i did (2hrs/week if i was lucky for not even a year) was just basic maths and english, and mainly stuff i already knew due to my tutor having to check what i had already learned and understood.
i had to leave school due to my disability when i was around 12/13. meaning i have lost 3-4 years of education and have just over a primary school level of education.
people saying things like âits the first thing you learn in x classâ or âdidnt you learn this in school?â is extremely hurtful and a very privileged thing to say.
Gen Z is great, Iâm glad theyâve already started calling out a lot of shitty things that millennials have done.
But some of them are edging into âugh itâs so cringey that adults still like having fun and engage in fandom contentâ and I resent that I apparently have to give up all my interests and joys because Iâm already considered decrepit at age 26.
Fight the power, kids, but Jesus H. Christ do not fall for the idea that life ends at 25 and everyone older than that is past their prime.
And to clarify, I donât say this because some teenagers made me feel bad or something, Iâm saying this because the idea that you have to live your life to the fullest and do everything you want by the time youâre in your mid-twenties has left me with debilitating depression, anxiety, and inferiority issues. Itâs the same with most of my friends.
Life is long, yâall. You have so many more years left to live. You donât have to cram a century of possibility into a quarter of that time. Adults need and deserve silliness, fun, and play just as much as teenagers and kids do.
Itâs been said and Iâll say it again. Racism is everywhere. Yes itâs even in the sweet âsorryâ Canada that you made up, yes it is in âHobbit Townâ New Zealand, yes it is in the âanimeâ Japan you obsess over.
Donât be blind and ignorant. Canada isnât the apartment above the meth lab that doesnât know whatâs going on, New Zealand isnât a fantasy land where all is beautiful and good, Japan isnât blind to the racism in their country. These places want change as well. So listen to them too.
OMG yes! There is so much anti-indigenous racism in places like canada and new zealand. and donât even get me started on the anti-blackness in these places ESP in the anime industry.Â
I deleted your city off my weather app

Lesbians that complain about bi women dating men instead of them are officially the ânice guysâ of biphobia.
âWhy would she date a smelly BOY when she could date me instead? Iâd treat her so much better than any man could! I donât understand what she could possibly see in a MAN!â

trump really rolled back healthcare protections for lgbt people during pride month AND on the day of the 4 year anniversary of the pulse nightclub shooting. i donât know why iâm even shocked at this point but i still feel physically ill
while this is going to affect lgbt people in general because we are now at risk of being charged higher premiums or fees for being lgbt or at risk of being completely denied healthcare for simply existing itâs especially going to affect trans men and trans women. i know there is a lot happening right now but please donât let this go unnoticed. they are purposely passing these anti-lgbt laws right now because they know with the protests going on itâs an ideal time to do so. itâs an evil, underhanded tactic. donât let them get away with keeping us in the dark about this.

The bread didnât rise up, so the people did instead
Yo, Listen up!
People while itâs great to read black authors and about black issues but if you can, please pay for those resources preferably from black owned bookstores if you can. There are lists floating around with resources for black owned bookstores, and please please please if you can PAY FOR THOSE RESOURCES, specifically non black folks. Like education should be free, but when itâs black folksâ experience fueling these resources, pay for that shit. Pay for that shit. Pay for that shit. Thatâs not just an academic writing an essay. Thatâs someoneâs life, dude. You feel me?
