(W.I.P & poll help) BloodyMary!ATLA AU early concept
what are our thoughts on a Caucasian being an airbender? (RYLAND GRACE)
because I was thinking that there are no white people in ATLA (which is very funny to me and I love it).
So my OG idea of airbender!Grace is a bit weird? (like it feels a bit like cultural appropriation to make a white guy a monk in a culture heavily inspired by Buddhism). but I also like it because air = space = ryland grace is a spaceman
so now I’m overthinking my idea.
My OG idea was that Ryland was an airbender that escaped the genocide (that’s why he thinks himself a coward) and lives in hiding (as Grace) in the Earth Kingdom.
But he’s like a not-(very)-spiritual airbender, who is trying to figure out how bending works scientifically so he’s an outcast.
Also I have this (silly??) idea that he once passed out so hard after overworking himself that he astral projected and couldn't go back into his body, so he went exploring and accidentally lost his body in the process (like he physically lost his body. couldn’t find it no more. someone stole it or smth) and he remained as a spiritual projection for 4 years (and that’s like the equivalent of his coma).
But now that I think about it it is really silly and very “early draft”… so I wanna hear your thoughts!
should Grace be an airbender or an nonbender?
airbender
nonbender
a bender but something else (water, fire, earth)

Also re-reading the wiki it says that airbending is highly spiritual and that’s kinda the go-to requirement to be an airbender. But also in Legend of Korra, a bunch of people become airbenders even though they don’t have a spiritual connection?? So idk.
Like I now think about it and maybe he could be a nonbender who studies bending and thinks himself as expendable due to his lack of bending ability (shout out to @samsgarbagedump for that one). Someone who doesn’t think himself as important to matter in the ongoing war – no one is going to grieve him anyway.
ANYWAY THANK YOU! also more rant ideas under the cut:
Okey cuz my ideas for ATLA!Simon and ATLA!Rocky are pretty solid.
Bloodbender!Simon (who actually hates blood, thank you very much), who’s raised in a cult in the South Pole that forced him to be an assassin/to hunt down Fire Nation soldiers since he was a kid alongside his “Brothers”.
One day, they plan to attack a town (which I’m very badly naming Filament Harbor) with innocent people from the Fire Nation and he refuses/tries to sabotage the mission. The attack still happens (a bomb) and he is captured. The Fire Nation soldiers (the equivalent of Ava or maybe Ellie the eel) torture him and burn of his arm, neck tattoo and face. He gets away, loosing his arm in the process (he ripped it off trying to escape).
On the other hand we have silly Earthbender!Rocky who is paraplegic so he has a rock-chair that he uses to move (that looks very much like an Eridian). I realize is really OP if he does that but I just find it hilarious. Rocky can just bend whole as structures with just his fingers. He’s an engineer who uses his bending to create contraptions (and sometimes statues). He specializes in detail-focused earthbending, not just throwing rocks (he will throw rocks to).
Also Earthbender!Adrian with a slick rock-leg because I think they’re cool.
Also as a side-note I am thinking of early ATLA here, like before the main series but some decades after Aang disappeared. So the genocide happened and so did a grand part of the war, but they’re still in conflict and the nations are fighting directly against the Fire Nation.
Static was WILDLY popular in Brazil (a country where the population is over 50% black) and we had re-runs for YEARS on open television. Everyone who was a kid in the 2000s knew and loved him. As a result, every single Brazilian Con has a LOT of static cosplayers!
So, a couple of years ago, Comic Con Experience (the biggest con in Brazil, which is actually also the biggest con in the world!) invited one of Static’s creator Denys Cowan as one of the guests of honor.
Now. Thousands of people attend his panel. And cosplayers went NUTS because they could show their Static cosplay to the creator himself! What none of us expected was Debts Cowan’s reaction:
He cried on stage.
He had never seen Static cosplayers - especially not so many of them! And he had no idea the show was popular here! No one ever told him his character was so beloved! Years and years of reruns and he had no idea! He obviously created the character with his experiences and his community (Black North Americans) in mind. Still, he accidentally touched a whole other community of black people who could see themselves on the screen as a superhero!
Anyway he is a lovely person and one of the best, most memorable guests we had. And I think this is a nice reminder that your art might touch people you can’t even imagine would when creating it.
Edit: I said “the creator” when i should’ve said “one of the creators”, its edited now, but while he isnt the one who came to brazil it’s important to say Dwayne McDuffie was another important figure to static shock!! Both are black men who paved the way in comic book history! Thank you @sokumotanaka for pointing it out.
Imma be so honest with y'all, I really don't have much background to give you guys on by boy Sleuther here. I will say he was the odd little guy that broke into Skullcrusher and Windshear's enclosure and latched onto them. He is currently on the loose sticking close to Windshear since Skullcrusher isn't around to defend them. Unfortunately for him, due to being raised in a laboratory in a controlled environment, he never learned to hunt, as a consequence he has not been successful in catching prey, and is currently extremely malnourished and slowly starving.
Personally looking really forward to Star Wars Starfighter. Thought of making an AU where Sabryn ‘Grace’ Gill is a biologist and pilot who travels the outer rim to document new species of life. He does paid flight missions and accidentally ended up stranded after a mission with the Resistance went wrong. He finds out he’s force sensitive and becomes the Light of the Galaxy by pure accident. Meanwhile Simon was a failed jedi, turned to the dark side until he was spared by Grace, the force then bonding them together to protect the stars.
I saw a post about the Adam's family and my brain went Robert being related to them. Robert just causally dispatching when he gets a call about a mysterious hairy running around the zoo scaring people. Robert stands up and says in a half a sleep voice. Chase cover me I need to go pick up my cousin it. Z team cousin it? Robert just comes back with this hairy thing causally talking with it while beef is getting pets. He somehow understands it and z team is confused. Until a very tall sickly white but still very beautiful comes up gives Robert a hug saying Robert darling great to see you. It's good to see you too auntie. Z team staring slack jawed. Ow ya this is my aunt Morticia Adam's. Yes Robert is my nephew his father wanted to be normal so he left the family business and changed his name. We are working on bringing Robert home. Later on z team vist the Adam's home and quickly realizes Robert family isn't normal. It was wanting to vist Robert with Robert but got lost.
this was funnier in my head but here's a doodle anyways
i know their universes are separate but mark watney randomly picking up a hobby of intensely following a niche branch of microbiology while he was recovering from the mars debacle would be so him
random thoughts at 4am had me thinking about how useful he'd be to the project because of his outside the box thinking and creativity
