This is a guide to running your own D&D style campaign set in Night Vale. On this tumblr you'll find a story you can use, monsters, weapons, and pretty much anything else that you'll need. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask. This is a sideblog, so answers will come from gleamandglowcloud, my main blog. Definitely don't feel that you have to structure your campaign this way or that way just because this tumblr says to. I cobbled this together from a bunch of different sources (links on the credits page), and I'm a big fan of homebrew and house rules. Do whatever feels right for you and your group. Monday was homemade with love! And a tinge of jealousy. There may have been a small amount of thumb tacks and cyanide. But not anything unsafe, regulations were followed. Only the best cyanide!

Saturday was intended for entertainment purposes ONLY. Anyone not correctly using their Saturday for mostly fun or engaging in otherwise enjoyable activities will be punished with regret. And electric shocks. They will feel regret for wasting their time, their energy, and their life doing things which were ultimately not worth anything. Why would you do that??? But also, strong electric shocks.

Night Vale Fire Station

This looks like a normal fire station.

Museum of Forbidden Technology

All of the exhibits are covered in thick burlap, and the plaques are blacked out with permanent marker.

The only person who works here is an old man named Harry. He will be sleeping when you walk in, and (provided you’re still relatively new in town) will react in the traditional way: pointing at you while shouting “INTERLOPER” over and over again. He is friends with Frank, and has a sawed-off shotgun with ammo in his office.

If you stay more than fifteen minutes, the Sheriff’s Secret Police will take you to the abandoned mine shaft.

The Dog Park

No people or dogs allowed.

A tall dark fence surrounds the dog park. If you look, you discover there is no discernible gate. You can try to break through:

First layer: metal to keep the magical properties of the fence contained. Can be destroyed with explosives (25 damage required).

Second layer - Violet energy: You’re blinded & must make a Constitution save DC 16 to end the blindness. Can be destroyed by Dispel Magic.

Third layer - Indigo-colored stone: Tendrils of rock pull you to the wall. You’re grappled & must make a Strength save DC 16 to end it. Can be destroyed by Daylight.

Fourth layer - Blue energy: Take 10d6 cold damage. Can be destroyed by dealing at least 25 fire damage to the wall.

Fifth layer - Green energy: Take 10d6 poison damage. Can be destroyed by opening a portal on its surface.

Sixth layer - Yellow energy: Take 10d6 lightning damage. Can be destroyed by dealing at least 25 force damage.

Seventh layer - Orange energy: Take 10d6 acid damage. Can be destroyed by a forceful gust of wind.

Eighth layer - Red flame: Take 10d6 fire damage. Can be destroyed by dealing at least 25 cold damage.

Inside, there are hooded figures and also a different dimension. It looks just like the one you came from, except there’s a lot less standing buildings and a lot more radiation.

Radon Canyon

This area is slightly radioactive. There is a heavy lead-lined door embedded into the rock on one side of the canyon.

If you open the door (Strength check DC 25), 3 radiation elementals pop out.

The Whispering Forest

Simone is the only one who knows the true nature of the Whispering Forest.

If you approach, you hear whispers. If you get closer, the whispers get louder and you hear a gender-ambiguous voice complimenting you so that you’ll stay.

If you stay in the forest long, you are absorbed into the forest. It feels pleasant. Your character is no longer playable.

Abandoned Dairy Queen

You can go here to get Business Cards.

Write a hope or a dream on a blank index card, roll it up, and slide it under the door. In 3-5 business days, a box of 25 cards will appear in your home. 

Hold the card and whisper a short message. The person whose name is on the card will hear the message as a whisper in their head, but will not be able to reply (like a voicemail). 

Write a message on the back of a card and put it under your fridge. The person whose name is on the card will find it within 1d6 minutes.

NV Petting Zoo

There are only emaciated wolves. There are no attendants.

This is not actually a petting zoo.

Dark Owl Records

Michelle, a hipster in her early twenties, works there. She’s the only one who ever seems to work there.

The staff frequently puts on live concerts, which they discourage attendance of. 

The basement is a labyrinthine maze that people have died in.

Jackie’s Pawn Shop

Jackie Fierro owns the shop and works there. Janice Rio works the counter & would like you to know that she is allergic to cats. Diane Crayton is a part-time bookkeeper in addition to being the treasurer for the PTA and also Josh’s mother.

Night Vale Bank

This bank burned down 20 years ago and was never cleaned up or restored. 

If players explore the site, roll percentile dice. 

1-25: players experience light nausea

26-60: players experience flu-like symptoms

61-95: players begin vomiting & have fevers

96-100: players pass out & wake up either at home, the hospital, or (if you’re friends with her) Angela’s.
