The Nightvale community radio here.

In this blog I post things that probably weren’t, but could’ve been said on Nightvale community radio. I also say “Nighty-night, Nightvale” every night, instead of the usual “Goodnight, Nightvale. Goodnight.” Enjoy!

I am also always open to suggestions, questions and role play. I am Cecil Palmer, a radio host in a friendly desert community, and I do accept notes and calls :D

I HAVE AN IMPORTANT CALL TO ARMS.

There is a 48 hour black-out planned for the 18th of March -> aka sometime in the next day or so depending on your location.

This is in protest of the new notes feature, quite frankly I believe that it is atrocious and I am not afraid to make that known. It is a small action for individuals but it will show Tumblr how much everyone is against this new change and hopefully it'll prompt them to take some action.

I participated in the shapes.inc blackout as much as I was able. I shall be participating in this one too, and I strongly recommend that all my beautiful moots and followers please please please spread the word and join in the blackout.

Amelia Patel, from the Night Vale Fire Department, has called me today to inform me that she has been cursed with prophetic visions. Now, I don’t know about you, but most of the people I know have been cursed with prophetic visions at least once or twice in their lives… So, Amelia, you aren’t as special as you seem to think. You really aren’t. But, hey, let’s hear what she has to say!

Amelia has discovered that we shall all be crazy by the year 3012. This, alas, is not the worst of it. We shall also be dead.

Now, as far as prophetic visions go, this one isn’t so bad at all! From what I’ve heard, seen, or have been forced to see, they are often unhelpful or even downright malicious. It’s good to know that my demise is a certainty, rather than a hypothetical. If there’s nothing left to trust, you can always trust in death!

Unless you get stuck in a never-ending time loop where you don’t age and every day is the same, and every day is the same, and every day is the same, and every day is the same, that is. I don’t think even prophetic visions could account for that specific eventuality.

And as for being crazy: we must take into consideration the way that culture, language, and human behavior change over time. For example, what would a caveman think of me in my purple converse, rainbow cape, and bunny ears, sitting in a tower, and chatting away into an inanimate, metal-clad cylinder? They would think I’m crazy. Or rather they would something like “grrrsh go oog oog ba craganba” which would roughly translate to “Damn, that bloke sure is mentally unwell! Better steer clear of that guy, am I right?” And I would not be offended! Because if a caveman walked into my studio right now, and I didn’t know that they were a caveman, I would assume they were behaving very strangely, very strangely indeed.

So, if we are all to be crazy by the year 3012, we might as well just be completely normal — or whatever comes close enough to whatever we consider “normal” to be socially acceptable, as conformity is overrated, anyway — by the standards of that time!

So, thank you, Amelia, for that reassuring, and frankly heartwarming, message.
