CRYSTALLIS 010
comeback prep: hausing company: solo youtube show finale: @yujinlgc
“even though it can be tiring having a lot of schedules going on, i imagine that’s better than having nothing to do for several months during a period that isn’t considered a break.” aeri stated, trying to take in the perception of an idol and their schedules. “if you had a longer break though, is there anything you would want to do during that time?” she asked with curiosity. she wasn’t sure how many days or weeks would be considered a vacation for an idol, but the question caused her to wonder what jaehwa would do.
“oh, cool is a great one too! it was one of the first few crystallis songs i’ve heard.” she nodded in agreement. the more they talk about crystallis’ discography while waiting for the next scene, the more aeri wished she had brought her songwriting notebook where she took copious notes of the legacy groups and their discographies. in between projects, she would review through them to get a better understanding of the musical direction. but whenever aeri was preparing for an acting project, those were usually put on a pause until she was done.
“yeah, whenever i learn a new language i try to listen a lot of songs in that language. but earlier this year, i had the fun challenge of learning cantonese and japanese at the same time…cantonese for this project and japanese for a musical that i was a part of.” she explained while letting out an airy chuckle over the stress she was dealing with months prior. “for japanese, i realized that i was better off listening to the legacy groups because they would have a korean version or it would be useful for a variety show appearance.” aeri was aware of how some fans seemed to like it whenever their favorites would sing or dance to songs from the same company. the actress joked as she thought about what she said earlier, “don’t ask me to dance to hare hare though! i don’t know the choreography, but i do know most of the lyrics to sing it.”
“that’s true. i’ve never really thought about having nothing to do on a non-break day.” for someone like jaehwa, whose schedule is usually packed to the brim, the idea of lying in bed when it's not officially a break felt foreign. maybe she should finally take the chance to work on a proper self-care routine, something she’s neglected for as long as she could remember. “i guess it depends on how many days i get. if it’s just a week or two, i’ll stay in korea, do some shopping… maybe treat myself to a full-body massage,” she hums thoughtfully. “but if it’s more than that, i’d definitely plan a trip overseas! i mean, i’ve been to a few countries during group tours, but visiting as a tourist just hits differently.”
“well, what other groups do you like? groups outside of legacy, no biasness here,” she asks with a playful glint in her eye. while others’ opinions of crystallis mattered to her, jaehwa was genuinely curious about which other groups people enjoyed. it always warmed her heart to see fans cheering for different artists, especially those she had become friends with. during the group's promotions, she’d met quite a few fellow idols and had built good rapport with many of them.
she nods as aeri explains how she listens to songs in a certain language while learning it. when jaehwa first started studying japanese, she had a teacher to guide her since the group was preparing for their japan debut. it also helped that all the members were learning together so they practiced every day. “that’s definitely one way to learn! i’m really happy to hear that hare hare helped you,” she smiles. “when we were learning new languages, we’d talk to each other in that language for an hour. whoever slipped into korean the most would get a forfeit!” she laughs at the memory before raising an eyebrow. “hm, i won’t make you do that now, but… i do want to hear you speak some cantonese.”
lgcjaehwa
“thank you,” she said with a soft smile. truthfully, she felt incredibly lucky to have landed a main role, especially since most of her previous roles were supporting. “i’m still learning just like everyone else here. like you mentioned, i’ve got idol responsibilities too so who knows? you might reach my level faster than you think.” jaehwa let out a sheepish laugh, rubbing the back of her neck. “i’ve done around five dramas but they were all supporting roles so getting the main role this time was a huge surprise and an honour.” she paused, thinking about the next question. “i usually practice in front of the mirror a few times a day. not too often, or it’d wear me out mentally. once the night before and again during makeup prep.”
sometimes cherry wonders if the public even sees her as an actress. though cherry has done some acting here and there, has been announced to be on the acting career in legacy, she’s much more well known for hosting and variety shows. throughout cherry’s career, she’s done much more hosting, having had her own youtube show, podcast, then her own youtube channel and having hosted for some music shows. really, isn’t she more of a host than an actress? cherry is unsure how to feel about it, she loves hosting, wants to do it as much as she can, but she sometimes wishes people would see her as a serious actress too, not just a playful host.
it was probably easier for cherry to do acting and hosting at once than it was for jaehwa to do idol life and acting at once. cherry wasn’t a very successful actress, didn’t have a lot of roles nor experience, and though she loved hosting, she mainly just hosted for her youtube channel or came in as a substitute at music award shows here and there. jaehwa was busy as an idol and as an actress while cherry wasn’t busy as an actress nor a host, she couldn’t help but look at jaehwa with a bit of jealousy in her eyes, wonder when and if she’d be as busy as the other some day? if she ever got that busy she’d probably wish for more free time, but right now she’s just wishing to get a busier schedule filled with more gigs.
the blonde shakes her head “i’m a slow learner, it’d take be ages to reach your level” she turns to look at the other “besides, you’re this talented at acting and idol skills? i could never do that…” she shrugs “doesn’t bother me, i don’t have to be good at everything, but i do find it cool how talented you are”. “ah, this is my first time actually, or well… i was a background character once, but it feels like it doesn’t count” she hums. “i practice with my hamster, not that it’s much help, she doesn’t say her lines nor does she even pretend to be interested” she laughs shortly “maybe we could practice lines some day?” she looks hopefully at the other.
if she were to count from the day she was first introduced to the public, jaehwa could now be considered a veteran in the industry. her official entry into the idol world began in 2020 so while crystallis is just three years old, she’s already accumulated five years of experience. that alone gives her a deep sense of accomplishment, a reminder of how far she’s come and how much she’s grown to earn her place as one of korea’s strongest vocalists. five years may seem short to some but for her, every year was packed with relentless hard work and dedication.
acting was a new path she chose to explore, not to escape her idol roots but to expand her artistry and it’s a decision she’s never regretted. from her debut role to her current project, jaehwa has grown, becoming more confident in delivering lines, experimenting with improvisation and connecting more deeply with her characters.
both industries come with their own set of challenges and rewards, making it impossible for her to choose between the two. being an idol can be physically and mentally demanding but visibility comes quickly, especially under a powerhouse like legacy. acting, on the other hand, offers a different pace. it was less intense, more flexible, and not as fan-facing on a daily basis.
it’d take ages to reach your level. that line stuck with jaehwa as it echoed the same thought she had when she first joined the company, quietly watching her seniors rehearse while wondering if she’d ever catch up. but now, she’s one of the names people look up to. “i said the exact same thing to one of the blazing members too,” she says with a playful look. “it’s tough in the beginning, but you’ll get the hang of it over time. don’t tell me you’re still the same as when you first entered legacy?” she crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow as a smirk plays on her lips. “hey, even practicing with a hamster’s better than not practicing at all. at least you’re doing something.” she offers a reassuring nod. “sure, i’m always up for line practice. just tell me when.”
misaki takes one final moment, eyes darting around the space as quickly as he can in order to take it all in, before taking the seat ready and waiting for him beside jaehwa. it's only then that his simmering hunger really hits him, stomach gurgling loudly as his mind registers the samples ready to be tried. he's got half a mind to be embarrassed, but then he remembers— he's never embarrassed. instead, he simply giggles, head ducking slightly as his shoulders shake. "i was almost starting to regret not eating a lot earlier today since i knew we were going to be eating here, but now i'm glad i didn't eat much— now i can enjoy what we're trying here even more!"
eyes widening as he looks at his options, misaki continues. "i want to start with a pastry first and then try a drink . . . oh!" lifting a hand, misaki reaches for his first treat of the day, a chocolate biscotti. frosted on one end with white is a little cat paw, a cute detail misaki can't help but zero in on. "it's been so long since i had one of these! this has got to be my first taste test!"
making sure the cameras have a good shot, misaki holds the pastry up to show it off ( he's sure they've already gotten their b-roll for editing purposes, but now they'll have him with it too ), his other hand lifting to hold his open palm behind it to better help with focus. "bone apple teeth!" finally, he takes a bite. immediately, his eyes scrunch closed, brows furrowing, head nodding. oh yeah, he needed this. "noona, you gotta try one of these!"
between the cats and the pastries, jaehwa was definitely more excited for the pastries. she’d only had a few light bites earlier but when it came to desserts, she always had room. like the saying goes, “women have a second stomach for sweets.” watching misaki take a bite of the chocolate biscotti made her suddenly aware of how empty her own stomach felt, like everything she had eaten before had vanished. at misaki’s prompt, she reached for the biscotti. a satisfying, asmr-worthy crunch echoed as she took her first bite, her free hand instinctively moving under her chin to catch the falling crumbs. she took a few moments to savour the sweet-bitter flavour melting in her mouth. “really not an ad, but this is crunchy and chocolatey!” she grinned.
next came the second pastry — a blueberry jam tart topped with cherries. when it comes to tarts, texture is everything for her. she’s always on the lookout for ones with a crumbly, buttery base, and the way the edges gave way with her first bite told her immediately: this might be a new favorite.
she was so absorbed in enjoying the treat that she nearly forgot she was filming. quickly, she held up the half-eaten tart to the camera, her other hand covering her mouth as she wiped the crumbs off her lips. “this tasted so good, i forgot to show what i’m eating.” she chuckled, then popped the rest into her mouth in one go, still shielding her face to avoid her unglamorous moment from becoming a meme. “you’ve got to try this if you’re into berries,” she urged the other.
jaehwas bravery, alongside finally being given the go ahead to enter the cafe space, reenergizes misaki in a way that makes him bouncy, a pep to his step as he excitedly pushes through the doors, reminding himself at the very last minute to hold the door open for jaehwa to step through as well ( there's no doubt the cameras were able to catch the moment the thought registered in his mind, but that'd simply make for a silly clip once all was said and done ). immediately, his eyes widen, taking in the space in its entirety. from where they'd been stood in the hall, only a small portion of the space could be seen— now, getting to take it all in for the first time, misaki knows today is going to be a blast.
"wow, they decorated this place so nicely!" there's an obviouce overtone of awe to his words, spinning in place as he looks from one end of the room to the other, taking in the cafe decore mixed with cat goods. "the company really went all out, but i didn't expect any less! what do you think, noona?"
there's a table set up for the two of them to get everything underway, but before officially sitting down, misaki lets himself wander for just a moment. "i don't think i'm gonna care about how good all the treats are gonna be anymore— i think i'll stop by here everyday just to hangout and vibe with the cats!" he throws a sly grin towards a camera, brows wiggling, clearly a playful jest. "the snacks are a just a bonus."
jaehwa follows behind, making sure to thank misaki for holding the door along the way. stepping into the cafe, she immediately notices how beautifully decorated the space is. it's bright and spacious, an ideal environment for cats to run around freely. having performed at legacy cafe before helps her to know exactly what to expect. although she’s not exactly experienced in interior design, the concept and style feel familiar; after all, this trend is popular in cafes nowadays. while she can't be completely candid with the camera, she leans into her acting skills to work around it.
"it's really pretty, cozy and relaxing. a great spot for anyone looking to unwind if you ask me. and honestly, what better distraction than the cats? i'm sure all your worries will temporarily melt away at the sight of their cute faces," she replies with a warm smile, carefully choosing her words.
she sits down, briefly scanning the items in front of her before taking in her surroundings. if this were a regular café without the cats, she might have seriously considered becoming a regular. "shall we get started? i don't know about you, but just looking at these samples is making me hungry."
“you’re right, it probably does. events like that add an element of unpredictability to their routine.” aeri chuckled. humming softly, she thought about the possible dishes that they could have for lunch before reminding herself that lunch time wasn’t until later on. “i have high hopes then that the food truck will serve some delicious food.” she smiled as she noticed one of the staff members passing by.
“two albums…” aeri repeated as it helped her narrow down the title tracks that were released during that time. as soon as jaehwa mentioned the title tracks, her eyes widened as she remembered the songs released during that time. “your guess is probably as good as mines. siesta and dance on are both solid title tracks and seeing how busy crystallis was at that time, i wouldn’t be surprised if he became a fan from either era.” aeri reasoned as she grabbed her small tumbler from her bag.
“if it’s title track, i’d say siesta is my favorite too. but if it’s b-sides, i love backwards from the latest album. when i first heard that song, i thought about how it’s a song that i wished i had written the lyrics to.” she admitted, while thinking about how she felt the first time she heard the song. after taking a sip of water from her tumbler, aeri continued on to mention another song that caught her attention lately. “but my honorable mention would be hare hare. i actually listened to that song recently to help learn japanese and i wished i listened to it sooner! it’s so catchy.”
jaehwa’s eyes drifted toward the door, sunlight spilling through the gap beneath it. when did the members say the food truck would arrive again? she glanced at her phone: fifteen minutes till eleven. her shoulders slumped. now that they were talking about food, she was more excited for that than the next scene she had to film. “same. the last time they ordered a food truck with katsu curry and the food was so good. hands-down amazing.”
she nodded slowly as aeri repeated those words, giving herself a moment to think. those two eras really did bring in more fans, and thinking back, 2023 stood out as her favorite year with two comebacks and blonde hair, which she dearly missed. “i wouldn’t be surprised either. we had two new albums and two new members… promotion season was crazy. fun, but a lot more tiring than usual.”
her face lit up at the mention of a b-side. jaehwa never expected anyone who wasn’t an alize to listen to their full albums so hearing that aeri did made her genuinely touched. “backwards was a good one! my personal favorite b-side has to be cool from love letter. the tune was catchy so it really stuck with me." her eyes widened when aeri brought up hare hare. even though it was one of their songs, they never officially promoted it in korea. “wait, seriously? i didn’t think you’d know that one! we only promoted it in japan, so i’m kinda surprised but also super happy you’ve heard it.”
“i see, it makes sense. i think if i were in a permanent idol group, i’d probably let the other members do more of the talking during interviews. i’m not exactly…entertaining to talk to for formal interviews.” she admitted, aware that there were still some areas that she needed to work on.
smiling at jaehwa’s response, aeri continued listening to the younger’s story and while she’s not surprised about such an incident, she sometimes wonders if the staff knew every method to sneak in food possible. “i wondered what the delivery person was thinking when they saw a basket coming out of the window. it’s not like an everyday occurrence to have someone ask you to deliver their food in a basket from several floors above.” she joked as she imagined the other person carrying the delivery food. “oh?” aeri tilted her head after hearing the words “lunch” and “food truck” that she was intrigued over what lunch was going to be that day. “as long as they don’t need me for a scene during lunch, i’ll gladly join you! do you know what kind of food truck it is?” she assumed that whatever it was, the food would be delicious. plus she knew from past instances that whenever a food truck showed up on set, it would uplift everyone’s moods and energies and that was something aeri loved seeing.
“mhmm,” she nodded, recalling bits of the conversation she had with the staff member. while she wished she had a long conversation to know how much he loved the group, aeri figured that she would know in due time. “i think since… 2023?” she ended with a questioning tone as her brain quickly began to think of what songs crystallis had released that year. “but wasn’t that the year that crystallis released a lot of songs?” aeri asked for confirmation while her brain was trying to recall the songs that crystallis has released.
jaehwa nods thoughtfully, humming softly. “i think the older members are trained for this. they probably practiced with the managers to know exactly what they can and can’t say,” she explains, recalling how the older members used to hold sheets of paper, memorizing lines like students cramming for exams.
a soft chuckle slips out as she remembers the expression on the delivery guy’s face when he spotted the basket. for jaehwa, it was risky but thrilling. sneaking out of her dorm barefoot, double-checking that the guy was standing by the right window, feeling the adrenaline spike when footsteps echoed down the hall, and that wave of relief as soon as she shut her door behind her. “deliveries like that must’ve made their jobs a little more fun, right?” she grins, flipping her hair playfully before laughing in embarrassment. “hmm… i’m not sure. knowing them, they love keeping these things a surprise. but whatever it is, i’m sure it’ll be delicious.” probably because, for her, giving gifts was definitely one of her love languages. seeing the tired staff and cast light up at the sight of a food truck always made her day.
when aeri asks her next question, jaehwa tilts her head, thinking. 2023… that was their second year after debut and also the same year yujin and yuxi joined. they’d released two albums that year, 'love letter' and 'ticket to ride'. honestly, with everything packed back to back, that whole period felt like a blur. “yeah, we released two albums that year. i think he’d like siesta or dance on,” she answers, nodding along before flashing a smile. “siesta’s my personal favourite.” she lifts a brow curiously. “what about you? got a favourite crystallis song?”
lgcjaehwa
acting wasn’t originally part of jaehwa’s plan when she first auditioned for legacy. in fact, her entry into the industry happened by chance when she was offered a small role in the first season of cram school. that unexpected opportunity sparked something in her. she found herself enjoying the experience of stepping into someone else’s shoes, even if only temporarily. before she knew it, jaehwa was sharing sets with popular celebrities like iu and yeo jingoo. that same year, she even took home her first acting award. but despite her growing acting career, jaehwa never forgot her idol duties. she made it a point to connect with her fans whenever she could during promotions, though it never quite felt like enough. she wanted to do more. unfortunately, drama filming was incredibly demanding. between long shooting hours, script readings, photoshoots, and for one family business, intense stunt workshops, juggling both careers felt almost impossible. during a break in filming, when cherry casually mentioned not liking coffee, jaehwa glanced at the staff member holding out a cup and gave a subtle shrug. but her eyes lit up with surprise when cherry mentioned strawberry milk instead. the sugar content alone made jaehwa raise an eyebrow. “i’ve been doing well,” she replied with a soft smile. “just running on low sleep, that’s all. i’m lucky to have been given the main role, and i owe it all to the director and producer.” when cherry commented further, there was a slight frown on her brows before dismissing it. “i’ve played supporting roles before. my favorite was definitely hotel del luna. not only did i get to act alongside my role model, but i also received an award for that performance.”
cherry could only feel excited about future roles, hoping she would someday manage to land herself a bigger role. cherry was very aware she still wasn’t the greatest actress, so she was satisfied with the role she got, it made sense to give the bigger roles to actors more experienced and talented than cherry. but this was a journey, cherry knew she wouldn’t land big roles the moment she switched to the acting path, she had to work hard as hell, because when she switched to the acting path she had no talent in acting nor did she know what she was doing.
but even with no big roles so far, cherry was still having fun. on the idol trainee path cherry had to drag herself throughout the day, she couldn’t dance, and she never got to learn it, the acting path was much more fun since she was actually interested in acting. cherry was a slow learner though, had always been, so even after a year on the acting path, she still wasn’t that good of an actress. luckily fellow actors who had more talent were willing to help cherry, practice lines together and give cherry some tips. so she figured, if she continued working hard, eventually she’d get that lead role she’s dreamed of.
“ah, it must be hard… you’re handling idol stuff all while you’re doing this, aren’t you?” cherry turns to the other as she takes a sip of her own strawberry milk. “i’d say you deserve the main role, the acting i’ve seen you done is amazing, i can only wish to reach your level some day” the blonde smiles to the other. “ah, you’ve done acting before? makes sense you’re so good then” for a short while cherry had just believed jaehwa had gotten the lead role as her first role. “i don’t have a lot of lines, so there’s not that much for me to remember” might be good, cherry has the memory of a goldfish “but you do… how do you manage to remember all your lines?”.
so what’s next for jaehwa in the acting industry? for starters, she’d be grateful for any future roles, whether it’s a supporting, lead, or main role. just being part of a project is already a joy for her, especially when it means working alongside top stars. she understands that fame doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time to build credibility and recognition. besides, she’s already made a name for herself with crystallis, which sometimes makes her wonder if she should take a short break from acting to focus fully on her idol activities. after all, once she’s solidified her place as one of the top singers of her generation, she can always return to acting with more stability and confidence.
jaehwa nodded when cherry brought up handling idol responsibilities. thinking about it now, she realized that filming had taken up most of her schedule, leaving her less involved in group activities. whenever the members talked in the group chat about promotions or behind-the-scenes moments, she couldn’t help but feel a little left out. luckily, the older members were always looking out for her, doing their best to make her feel included. just the other day, one of them even sent a food truck to set for the entire cast and crew as a show of support. without her members’ love and encouragement, she honestly wasn’t sure how she would’ve survived.
ONE FAMILY BUSINESS: REHEARSAL word count: 371
jaehwas reassurance seems to reenergize misaki, concern and furrowed brows quickly being replaced with another wide smile and bright gaze. scared or not, the older is brave. misaki admires that— pushing through something seemingly so small, yet still scary enough, only strengthens just how cool he finds his senior. still, misaki decides he'll keep an eye out just in case any of the cats decides to unleash a little too much energy. this is supposed to be fun for both of them. he'll gladly let himself get a little scratched up if it means jaehwa won't feel the need to run for cover.
"i've never had a cat before, but this one ice cream shop i used to bike to all the time back home used to have one that lived in its back alley for a few years— he was super spunky and didn't like anyone, not even me!" mikaki thinks back to those days with a happy grin, the outline of a old black cat forming in his mind. "it took months of bringing him treats often and letting him swat at my hands anytime i tried petting, but eventually we were cool. i guess some cats just take a little more finessing to play with than others, but don't worry, my members and i picked the best!"
peering through the doors one last time, it seems things are finally prepared and ready, a staff member coming through to let them know it's time. "you can do it, noona! i believe in you, and we'll have the footage for proof!" at this point, misaki can't tell what he's more excited for, the cats or the treats.
jaehwa listens to the story intently, intrigued by the dedication misaki had toward the cat despite being rejected by it so many times. if he was trying to ease her nerves, he was doing a great job as she unknowingly relaxes her shoulders. maybe cats weren’t that scary after all. what if she had misunderstood them this whole time? “that’s pure dedication. i would've left the cat alone and never looked for it again, especially if it scratched me the first time,” she says with a nervous laugh. from her perspective, why bother if it’s clear the cat doesn’t want to be bothered?
“i think stray cats are more wary and cautious since they’re more likely to be bullied by other strays. that’s why it takes more time for them to warm up to people,” jaehwa adds thoughtfully, only to pause at her own words. she had just shown empathy for the stray cat community, so why hadn’t she given a second chance to the cat that scratched her? “just from this, i can tell you’re someone with patience, determination, and a lot of love to give,” she admits with a smile. “i can’t wait to see what everyone else picked.”
when a staff member signals for them to head inside, jaehwa feels the butterflies return to her stomach as the nervousness kicks in again. she takes a deep breath and exhales slowly, smiling at misaki’s encouraging words. she can do this. she’s not going to run away from cats, maybe she’ll even pet one. “thanks, i hope i do too. come on, let’s go!”
“do you think it would be similar to how some idols who are or were in groups doing solo work?” aeri asked, partially to express a thought in her mind while the other side of her was curious to hear jaehwa’s thoughts. “but i could see how you would miss group promotions. you’ve been an idol for a while already that when you do a solo project for longer than…say… a few days, you start to feel and notice the differences.” she stated while thinking of how she sometimes would have the reverse effect whenever she joined any opportunities related to lgc girls after working as an actress.
“mhmm, it’s chocolate! i was thinking of chocolate since it goes well with coffee.” aeri nodded her head, remembering exactly what she had stored inside. letting out a chuckle afterwards, aeri gave a lighthearted response, “being a trainee teaches you some lessons on how to be sneaky without getting caught.” while there were some tips and tricks that she wouldn’t do, there were a few she had learned along the way after observing the people around her. “if you run out of it or really like them, just let me know. i love baking…which i know is a double-edged sword, but sometimes a treat or two is fine.” she reasoned while smiling at the fact that she was able to give jaehwa something to keep her spirit and energy up.
“we can maybe look for him in the meantime until someone tells us that they need us for a scene.” aeri suggested, thinking that they had some minutes to spare especially after seeing what scene the actors and staff were working on. “i wouldn’t be surprised if at some point the runner asks you to sign one of his crystallis albums or photocards.” she joked as she closed her bag, making sure that no one could see what else was inside. “i should have asked what his favorite album was when i was talking to him though... which one do you think is his favorite crystallis album or title track?”
her shoulders rose and fell in a casual shrug. “i’m not sure. i can’t speak for the rest of the idols since everyone’s schedule is different.” jaehwa was fortunate enough to experience both the idol and acting worlds, and she genuinely enjoyed both. most idols who dipped their toes into acting usually landed minor roles with barely any screen time. “yeah, it was tough getting used to it at first. the older members used to do most of the talking during interviews, but when it came to drama premieres, i had to step up and handle the mic myself.”
her brows lifted as she nodded approvingly. “chocolate cookies really do pair well with coffee. you’ve got great taste!” jaehwa laughed, a playful glint in her eye. “that’s true. once, i was craving chinese food so badly that i threw a basket out the dorm window to collect the delivery.” it happened during her second year as a trainee, a trick she learned from one of the senior trainees. apparently, someone eventually snitched about where the surveillance cameras were because after she debuted, a cctv was installed near that area. “i will, thank you so much!” she paused, an idea sparking in her mind. “oh! we should hang out during lunch. i’ve arranged for a food truck to come.”
“we could,” jaehwa agreed, stepping away from the monitor, warming up to the idea of surprising one of her fans. she’d seen several clips of celebrities pulling hidden camera pranks on fans and had always wanted to try it herself. “no one expects their favorite idol to show up at their workplace. well, maybe he already suspects something since my name’s on the cast list, but still, it’d be a nice surprise.” she suggested as she gently closed the lid. “how long has he been a fan? i think our older fans would love hearing some of our classic songs again,” she added with a thoughtful hum.
jieun studies jaehwa’s grin for a moment, tilting her head slightly like she’s recalibrating something in her mind. there’s no trace of nervousness in the younger actress’s eyes, just honesty and a kind of grounded intensity she hadn’t expected. it catches her off guard in the best way. “good,” jieun says simply with a smile. “you held that... didn’t overdo it. that restraint’s harder than people think, i guess.”
they walk off set together, heading toward the monitors where the director is already scrolling back through footage. the crew buzzes around them but jieun keeps her focus on her on-screen sister, intrigued now not just by her performanc but by the way she absorbs everything around her like she’s still building the character in real time. “people might see her as a rebellious kid,” jieun adds after a beat. “but i suppose they are just kids who have survived things. that has to live in our bodies, even when we are quiet.” she says it out loud.
the actress lets a small smile tug at her lips before turning back to the screen. in a cast full of loud personalities and polished routines, jaehwa feels like something raw and real — something that might even challenge her if she lets it. and that, more than anything, excites her. not because she doubts herself but because good acting isn’t about proving you're the best. it’s about finding the right friction. and this sister dynamic? it's starting to spark. "the way you see it... is miyeon hurt by the way chaeyeon is taking their revenge? or is it just a clash of ideas?"
when jaehwa first began acting alongside senior actors, there were two emotions she found hardest to portray — anger and sadness. luckily, one of her seniors shared a tip: before stepping into a scene, an actor should take a few seconds to mentally shift into their character’s emotional state. since then, jaehwa made it a habit to pause, breathe and imagine what her character would feel in that moment. over time, it became second nature, which is why she could easily put herself in miyeon’s shoes. “a senior once taught me how to align my emotions with the scene. i owe them a lot, honestly,” she shares with a small smile.
as she reviews the earlier take on the director’s monitor, jaehwa carefully studies her expressions, checking for any stiffness or awkwardness. to her, the contrast between the two sisters in the scene is clear. miyeon is fiery and outspoken while chaeyeon is composed, her face unreadable but yet, jaehwa feels that the older sibling is trying her best to control the situation by not appearing anxious.
“from my view, I think miyeon is frustrated and feels like chaeyeon has given up. she genuinely believes she’s the only one who can save their father now,” she explains. in a way, miyeon reminds her of her younger self: impulsive, stubborn and always rushing to fix things before it’s too late. “there’s this voice in her head, telling her that if they don’t act fast, they’ll lose their only lead… and their father, forever.” as the director replays the scene and discusses with the producer, jaehwa takes another look, focusing on chaeyeon. “does chaeyeon feel anxious even if she doesn’t show it?” she wonders aloud. “it must be a really heavy decision to carry.”
misaki hasn't ever been the greatest at picking up rather obvious signs, jaehwas outward nervousness having gone right over his head until now, her words causing his brows to raise and eyes to widen. the idea of being scared of such a small animal had never truly crossed his mind before simply because, well . . . he hasn't ever felt fear towards them before ( he hardly fears anything, bleedingly trusting heart be damned, the emotion more of a foreign concept to him rather than a true possibility ). in that respect, misaki guess' he's lucky— jaehwa, however? it would seem not so much.
"really?" surprisingly, he does well to keep his voice relatively calm as he speaks, not wanting to startle the older more than she already seems. "you don't have to touch them if you don't want— if they get too close, i'll pick them up and put them in kitty jail!" kitty jail does not exist as far as misaki knows, but what he does know is his own level of self confidence. misaki thinks he could hold all the cats comfortably in his grasp, safely away from jaehwa, if need be.
for a moment, his brain stalls. "oh, wait— maybe you shouldn't meet . . . mine . . . he's a little spunky like me, that's why i like him, but i swear he's fun—" peering through the still closed entrance doors, misaki tries to see if he can catch an early glimpse of any of the cats lounging about. nothing yet. lifting a hand to scratch at the nape of his neck, misaki continues. "maybe eating and making things first will help you feel a little better before meeting any of them later on!"
jaehwa didn’t want to make it a big deal, nor did she want to inconvenience misaki. as his senior, she felt the need to handle the situation professionally and take it as a challenge by overcoming her fear rather than shy away from it. besides, this could be a good opportunity to brush up on her acting skills by pretending to be calm and unbothered on the outside, even if her nerves were screaming on the inside.
she hummed softly, giving her decision one more moment of thought before nodding. “it’s fine, i’ll try to take this as a challenge for myself,” she said with a reassuring smile, even though her heart was thumping wildly in her chest. “not all cats are the same. maybe the ones in the café are super friendly. or maybe… i did something wrong before that caused me to get scratched. either way, your help would be really appreciated if something happens.”
“it’s alright! show me which little cutie you’ve picked, I’d love to meet him.” as saem peeked through the closed doors, jaehwa followed closely behind, curious about the scene inside and the kind of cats the others had chosen. she nodded slowly in agreement with saem’s suggestion. if doing those calming activities could help her feel more at ease, why not give it a try? “i hope so,” she murmured. “i’ve made it my mission to conquer one of my fears today.”
aeri laughed, knowing that one of the perks of pursuing the acting path instead of the idol one was the differences in schedules. “that’s the one thing i’m glad i didn’t have to experience for a long period of time especially that for a group like crystallis, all of you were so busy right after debut.” aeri commented as she thought about the groups were during their debut. perhaps it was luck that right after her first acting project, things became quiet on legacy’s end, which allowed her more time to adapt to the new lifestyle.
“mhmm, i used to do that anyways as a trainee but once i transitioned to becoming an actress, i was glad for a while that i didn’t have to spend so many hours on dance practices compared to before. now with this drama, all of the hours spent on physical and illusionism training reminds me of that.” she added while feeling somewhat relieved that her previous project also did require learning the fundamentals of combat fighting.
nodding every so often, aeri whispered, “i made cookies along with some chocolate energy bars. with all of the preparation we had to do for this, i started making my own energy bars and i think i’m getting closer to perfecting it. i did hide them inside the tin canister so one might assume that you were given expensive tea or coffee beans.” she chuckled as she thought of how far she went to try to hide sweets for a fellow friend and co-star. showing what she had meant, aeri opened her tote bag to reveal the black tin canister and handed it to jaehwa.
looking around to see if there was anyone nearby, aeri was relieved that some of the staff and cast members were busy to noticed what had happened earlier. “i think the prop designer might be with one of the makeup artists. but earlier i did spot someone who used to be the runner in cram school as well? i didn’t speak to him for too long, but i remembered him mentioning about how he was excited to have you join us since he’s a fan of crystallis.”
“it is,” jaehwa nodded with a small laugh. “right after one promotion ended, we were already preparing for the next comeback. plus, we had other activities lined up, so during those years, we were constantly on the move.” she smiled at the memory despite how exhausting it was. sleep only came in short bursts, usually in the van or during hair and makeup, but she pushed through. and looking back, she was proud of that.
she nodded along, understanding what the other meant. “i know what you mean. after the first year, either things slowed down or maybe we just got used to the pace. but once i started working on dramas, my schedule completely shifted from the girls’. honestly? i miss group promotions. being on my own feels strange when i’m so used to doing everything as a team.”
her eyes lit up at the mention of chocolate energy bars. “wait, are the cookies chocolate too? that’s a double kill!” she grinned. “and you even hid them in a canister? seriously, why are you so smart? but also, sneaky. me likey.” jaehwa laughed and hugged the container close. “thanks for the treats! i’ll make sure to eat them in secret.”
as aeri spilled the gossip, jaehwa glanced around cautiously before popping the lid and sneaking a bite of the cookie. “the prop designer and makeup artist? honestly, i can see that! they look great together. wait, him? i remember him! he’s an alize? oh, i have to talk to him now.”

˚ ୧ .˚ₓ COFFEE RUSH !
she happened to have a little free time that day and decided to bring coffee for the team. after arriving early and getting her outfit and makeup done, she was told there’d be a short wait before her scenes. with coffees in hand, she made her way behind the cameras to where the law enforcement team was wrapping up their shoot. after exchanging brief greetings and handing out drinks, her eyes landed on cherry, her partner during one of their earlier stunt training sessions. “hey, cherry! you’re looking great,” jaehwa beamed, stepping over with a cup in hand. “how did filming go? i brought coffee for everyone. figured we could all use a little pick-me-up.”
even though cherry hadn’t managed to land any big roles for one family business, she was still above happy she would be joining the show. cherry was aware, she had a long way to go when it came to acting, she was still far from the best. she’d been on the acting career for more than a year now, and she loved it with her whole heart, it was so nice to be doing something she genuinely liked doing. she’s happy she stayed in legacy, even though she for a long while before joining the acting path was aware she didn’t want to be an idol, nor did she at all know what she wanted to be.
she’s found herself practicing a lot, especially with rowon since their characters are friends on the show. she’s also forced some non-actors to practice along her, like friends and her dad, and her dad is for some reason having a lot of fun with it, who knows, maybe he should try out acting as well. she’s also attempted to practice by herself, though she finds it far more easy to practice with someone else. sometimes she practiced with her hamster, but that’s still more like solo practicing because her hamster doesn’t care at all.
cherry lets out a shriek as jaehwa approaches her “geesh, didn’t see you there”. “i’d say it went well, at least nobody has said anything else” the blonde shrugs. “oh you brought coffee? that’s so nice” she smiles to the other “i hate coffee though so i’ll stick to the bottle of strawberry milk i brought along” she holds up her water bottle. “how are you doing? you managed to land yourself quite a big role. to be truthful, before one family business i wasn’t aware of how good at acting you were”.
acting wasn’t originally part of jaehwa’s plan when she first auditioned for legacy. in fact, her entry into the industry happened by chance when she was offered a small role in the first season of cram school. that unexpected opportunity sparked something in her. she found herself enjoying the experience of stepping into someone else’s shoes, even if only temporarily. before she knew it, jaehwa was sharing sets with popular celebrities like iu and yeo jingoo. that same year, she even took home her first acting award.
but despite her growing acting career, jaehwa never forgot her idol duties. she made it a point to connect with her fans whenever she could during promotions, though it never quite felt like enough. she wanted to do more. unfortunately, drama filming was incredibly demanding. between long shooting hours, script readings, photoshoots, and for one family business, intense stunt workshops, juggling both careers felt almost impossible.
during a break in filming, when cherry casually mentioned not liking coffee, jaehwa glanced at the staff member holding out a cup and gave a subtle shrug. but her eyes lit up with surprise when cherry mentioned strawberry milk instead. the sugar content alone made jaehwa raise an eyebrow.
“that’s good to hear, minus the lack of sleep, of course. i’m starting to feel like the lack of sleep happens more in this drama than any of the other projects i’ve taken.” aeri let out a soft chuckle as she kept her tone lighthearted. “or maybe i feel that way because of the stunts and tricks that we have to do here.” she added as an afterthought as she remembered that she had to do some stretches later to prepare for her other scenes.
“same here,” aeri thought about the law enforcement team and how she hadn’t seen a lot of their scenes due to timing or her being preoccupied. “i haven’t really spent some time checking out how the other team is doing until now. i did try to take a sneak peak of it in the script, but it’s different when you’re seeing it in person.” she admitted out loud while checking her surroundings to see if there were any of the managers. “oh i have something to give…” aeri’s voice softened near the end of her statement, hoping that no one would eavesdrop on what she was going to say. scooting a bit closer towards jaehwa, she whispered while her hand touched the strap of her tote bag, “i brought some homemade snacks for you in case you needed a pick me up…or something to complement your coffee.” she glanced at the coffee cup and smiled as she leaned back.
aeri quickly thought of a topic that they could talk about in between the mention of snacks. “i still remembered some of our castmates and their first acting projects. it’s sometimes surprising but touching to me seeing their growth as actors and actresses... even some of these staff members too. did you know one of the prop designers for this drama previously worked in ‘cram school’?”
“lucky for you, you're an actress,” jaehwa chuckled, taking another sip of her coffee. “back in the first two years of crystallis, i survived on less than five hours of sleep and still had to look happy and full of energy all day.” she tilted her head curiously. “have you been practicing late into the night?” truthfully, this kind of fatigue was nothing compared to the long hours of idol training. jaehwa might be running on low energy now, but once the caffeine kicked in, she'd be back to herself in no time.
“i'm really curious about their script,” she mused, eyes lighting up. “but i’m even more excited for the scenes where we all come together. i can already picture it: re:wired members melting into the shadows after a mission, the police force close behind. it’s going to be intense, but filming it will be a blast.” the moment aeri’s voice dropped, jaehwa’s instincts kicked in. she glanced around quickly, then turned back, catching the hint with a bright smile. “no way. you did not,” she whispered loudly, throwing an arm over aeri’s shoulders. “what did you make? tell me it’s something sweet. i need a sugar fix.”
as aeri mentioned their castmates, jaehwa glanced around the set, spotting a few familiar faces. “yeah, i remember my first school project too. wait, who from the staff’s here? we should totally go say hi!”
♡.· PERFECT CRIME . ( ft. @lgcjaehwa )
it’s one of their first scenes together and they have the challenge to master a small conflict between the sisters' approaches. jieun doesn’t show it but she’s watching jaehwa closely — not with judgment but with a quiet curiosity. chemistry like this can’t be forced, so she wants to know everything about the woman's acting and the way she portrays miyeon.
“i want names. no risks until we know who we’re dealing with,” jieun says when the director calls action, her voice steady, clipped. she doesn’t need to raise it because authority hums beneath every word. the tension is building and she waits for the other actors to do their parts and say their lines. and she stays in character, feeling the sisterhood and the weight of love strained by difference.
cut is called and jieun exhales slowly, breaking posture as the room relaxes. "your miyeon doesn't have much to say in this scene but your glare, the frustation… i can feel it. for a beat, i almost forgot to speak." she offers a rare, approving nod.
for someone who had only taken on roles as students or young adults until now, playing miyeon means a great deal to jaehwa. not only did it allow her to portray a more mature character, but the personality of her role was completely different from her past roles. still, that didn’t intimidate her. drawing from her past experiences and the guidance she received from senior actors, jaehwa managed to take on the role confidently.
tension filled the air on set as jieun, who plays her on-screen older sister, chose to approach the situation carefully. the rest of the cast sided with her character which left jaehwa, who plays the impulsive, hot-headed younger sibling, outnumbered. she remained quiet, only nodded stiffly and gave everyone a piercing glare before storming out.
when the director finally called “cut,” jaehwa let out a deep breath, her shoulders relaxing as she began easing out the intense emotions of her character. “thank you! honestly, this is my first time playing someone like this so your feedback really means a lot to me.” she grinned. “the way you portrayed chaeyeon had such a strong, commanding presence. for a moment, i genuinely felt like giving in and letting you lead.”
