she trained as an auror for the usual three years
was basically assigned a desk job at first and hated it
her mentor lance reyes decided not to retire and had nika join his little auror squad
their first mission was to track down a former death eater who was basically running a black market in russia (oh how nika loves russia)
two of nika’s squad mates were landon reyes (lance’s nephew) and connor park-o’bryne
landon hated nika because lance trained her instead of him, his own flesh and blood
nika wasn’t very fond of them either
connor found them both annoying bc he was lance’s older protege and thought he’d have a bigger role
nika tried to act tough all the time even though everything happening was terrifying and people were dying
not to mention she probably found out about vince’s engagement around this time and was upset by that
connor caught her in a moment of vulnerability and while nika tried to play it cool
“why’d you think i’d be crying?” “because you’re actually really weak”
and then she broke down for the first time in forever :)
but connor became sort of protective of her
landon was still jealous because connor was his “bro” but maybe he also came to like nika
the stakes were getting higher, it was getting more dangerous
connor and nika became fuck buddies but there were obviously some feelings
they were really close to catching this guy but then
he tells her it’s okay to be weak
they end up killing the death eater bc there was really no other choice
annie and everyone else never know what happened bc everything is classified but obviously she’s traumatized
actually takes that desk job for a year because going out in the field again might trigger her ptsd
she becomes friends with landon and he obviously has feelings for her but doesn’t act upon them bc she’s obviously is too scarred from everything
nika promises not to lose anymore people she loves (lmao)
