I feel like the environmental panic over AI caused the worst arguments to come out of people. Like, one (1) hamburger costs twice as much water to produce as an AI data center uses per day, and for some reason we don't get people becoming vegan when it's the single biggest impact on climate change you can have as an individual. One ChatGPT query is roughly equivalent to one Google search.
There are other arguments to make, like how LLMs such as ChatGPT will drive people to develop eating disorders, or prompt them to commit suicide, and how the companies offering the use of these LLMs are incentivized to just let that keep happening because a repeat customer is money in their pocket regardless of the harms caused, but the tech itself is not inherently evil or more destructive than anything else we've built.
You can say that creating art through a process other than typing in a prompt and hitting the generate button is worth it for no other reason than the sake of creating art, and you'd be right, but how many of the tech bros you see posting AI art were gonna do that? The world isn't gonna be set on fire specifically because people use ChatGPT and human creativity isn't gonna die just because some people don't engage in more traditional art mediums.
