men who crossdress solely to make fun of women in online skits obviously suck but i still think the best way to respond in that scenario (particularly when someone you know does this) is to respond with genuine support. if they are being disingenuous, it will make them uncomfortable and they will realize how unfunny it is. if they were merely using the “making fun of women” as a guise to experiment with their gender presentation in a way they perceive as acceptable by their friends, maybe they will realize that they can drop the guise and do what they want because their friends will accept them no matter what. maybe i’m leaning too hard on the power of friendship here but i really do think a lot of men who think it’s soooo funny to put on a dress and a wig and makeup actually would enjoy it in a more genuine way but they feel like they can’t or aren’t safe to do so.

I’m reading this book about the changing arctic and the author stayed with the Nunamiut people of inland alaska for a while and talked to this high school kid who was like “ugh I hate going to school in the spring I wish I was hunting caribou” and I thought that was charming. you often hear about people who are devoted to preserving their traditional culture and knowledge but it’s rare to hear about someone who’s invested in the old ways out of pure teenage selfishness. school is lame and hunting caribou is awesome

I've mentioned this story on here before, but I still feel really bad about it. so in my writing class, this older woman was talking to me about a book she read. specifically about how disturbing she found a scene near the end, where a dragon/demon/thing has evil nasty sex with a lady. and I was like "that's disgusting, please tell me the title so that I can avoid it!"

and then a few classes later, someone asked me what I was reading. without thinking, I said "oh, it's [book title]" and FROM ACROSS THE ROOM the older woman twisted around to give me the surprised pikachu face. I felt so guilty.
