Week 7 - Might want to grab a drink and take a seat for this one...

I usually only go into the office on Thursday and Fridays only due to school and working a part-time job, but this week was different. After hearing the news about having my work on the news (lol does that make sense?) I was so excited. My work has never been recognized like this before and it’s a pretty crazy feeling. It is a great reminder for when I’m feeling uncreative, low, and stressed. It reminds me why I do what I do and why I started in the first place.
Anyways... I went in an extra day for about four hours because the news stations needed a 30 second cut by the end of the week AND I still wasn’t able to relocate any files! I wanted to be sure that everything looked good and was finalized but it was hard when all of my files were wiped. I also wanted to make sure I sent it in on time versus only having Thursday to work on it and Friday to send it in. One lesson I have learned as being a creative: ALWAYS prepare for the worst! Give yourself enough time, room for error, room for improvement and changes, have back-ups, etc.
After an excruciating hour or so of relocating files and putting them in a safe place (external G-Drive), I finally started polishing the 30 second edit. Once I was done, I made sure it was SAVED IN A SAFE PLACE and sent it over to communications to proof. Instead of saving things to the shared drive, I saved my files on an external G-Drive (which is what I wish we were doing from the beginning).
Right away, they approved it and got it ready to send out. Apparently, Ohana Broadcasting will be using the edit as well but just the audio! My voice is FAMOUS! (*ahem* No photos please *ahem* lol).

Got in around the same time as usual and go right to work. The original edit of the Swing for Wishes video was mainly for the people at the event but the staff loved it so much that they wanted a one-minute edit to post on their social media platforms and emails. I went through the footage one more time and picked out the more important ones. I also cut down the interview at the end, it was kind of lengthy. The footage was still pretty shaky and I wanted to fix this so I finally learned how to quickly do this in post-process by using the “Warp Stabilizer” effect in Premier Pro. I had to turn it down at some points because it looked too robotic. I needed to work really efficiently with this one because I still needed to work on Selena’s video (refer to Week 6 - Part Two). For some reason, I was in such a powerful mood (working efficiently and feeling creative) and I didn’t want to lose that fire so after I finished the Swing for Wishes edit, I sent it off and was done with it. Then I jumped right into reviving Selena’s vid.
Since I already put the right footage back into their “bins” last Friday, I started chipping away on Premier Pro. Initially, I had no idea as to how I was going to attack this project. This time, I felt like I had a more creative perspective. I added more soundbites from interviews from Selena’s wish day and more B-Roll. I also felt as though I could save more footage because I knew how to make them look more stabilized.

I finally got feedback from the sponsorship video I made for Jingle Rock Run. There was a mistake in the dialogue and that I needed to slow down the transitions between each picture of the vendors. But turns out, the video was already sent out! I was so upset. I wish they ran it by me or at least my department before sending it out to clients. I wish there was more communication or a quicker response in feedback. When I sent out the first proof, I expected them to look over it ASAP. But, I guess there were other priorities. When I found this out, I stayed cool, composed and collected... But, I had to go for a walk. Because at that moment, I felt embarrassed. Like, clients already have seen it! And it was MY work! I walked down to Fort Street Mall and back, grabbed an iced tea and felt so much better. When I got back into the office, I was ready to work.
I couldn’t record the audio at the office because all of the noise, so I just fixed the speed of the transitions. Once this was done, I went back to do Selena’s video.
It’s hard to keep an agenda sometimes. Especially in the creative field. Something will always come up. It’s all in the matter of identifying the problem and creating a solution in the most effecient way possible. It takes practice to move about these things with grace, but I’m definitely getting better.
