#ReeseWitherspoon Joins #OscarsSoWhite Debate: 'Would Love to See a More Diverse Voting Membership' Via #USWeekly "Taking to #Facebook on Thursday, January 21, Witherspoon made her position clearly known by sharing her thoughts on a recent news article. "I really appreciated this article in #TIME on the lack of racial and gender diversity in this year's Oscar nominations," Witherspoon, 39, wrote, referring to the publication's feature "The Oscar Nominations Prove the Academy Still Doesn't Get It." "So disappointed that some of 2015's best films, filmmakers and performances were not recognized," she wrote. "Nothing can diminish the quality of their work, but these filmmakers deserve recognition. As an Academy member, I would love to see a more diverse voting membership," she concluded. Witherspoon's stand against the 2016 Oscar nominations, which included only white actors and actresses in the four main categories, puts her in good company. According to #TheNewYorkTimes, the Academy is listening. The outlet reported on Thursday that news of their planned action to make the awards more diverse could be announced as early as next week. Witherspoon won a best actress Oscar in 2005 for her role in Walk the Line, and received a second nomination last year (when all nominees in the top four categories were also white) for her performance in Wild."

Police searching #Markham neighbourhood for missing woman locate body #CP24 reports: "Police searching a Markham neighbourhood for missing woman #TaneeshaBrown have located a body near the school where the 25-year-old woman was last seen.Officers found the body underneath the ice in a pond near #EdwardJeffreysAvenue and Highway 48 on Saturday morning.The pond is about 1.5 kilometres away from Bur Oak Secondary School, where Brown was last seen on Jan. 12. Police also say that the clothing found on the body are “similar” to what Brown was reportedly wearing at the time of her disappearance. “I spent the morning with Taneesha’s mother and she has been notified of what we found and is obviously just heartbroken,” Const. #AndyPattenden told #CP24 at the scene. “It is a difficult time for everybody involved in the search but at least now we have found some information.” Brown left her aunt’s house in the area of McCowan Road and Castlemore Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 after telling her family that she was going outside for some fresh air. After leaving the residence, police believe Brown walked to Bur Oak Secondary School, where she briefly spoke with a man who had noticed that she wasn’t properly dressed for the winter weather and asked her if she was alright. Police say Brown told the man that she was “starting on a journey" and then proceeded to walk towards the school’s soccer field, not to be seen from again. A total of 25 officers were participating in the search for Brown on Saturday in what was the fourth coordinated effort since her disappearance. Previously, police had used remote-controlled water vehicles to search ponds near the school for Brown as well as a helicopter to conduct an aerial search. Brown had been previously diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and last week her father Uriel Brown told reporters that he had introduced her to the teachings of the Nation of Islam and feared she may not have been able to interpret the religion properly. “The last time I saw her she was talking in a religious context - ‘repent, it’s the end of the world,’” he said."
