“You and her are going to have a conversation, while I make sure nothing happens. You both can apologize at the same time. I will stop both of you from performing if you two can’t be mature young adults and talk,” she said sternly.

Caleb let a few moments of silence pass before he started talking. “I was waiting on Haven ‘cause we were going to go get ice cream with a coupl’a other people ‘n she was taking all this time to put make up on, and I told her she shouldn’t be wearing that much. ‘N I told her that if she kept wearing that much make up, she’d be a whore when she grows up.” Caleb moved his tongue around in his mouth, realizing how bad it sounded. “’N I guess Martina heard about it so she came up to me and we fought a little bit and then she knee’d me right where it hurts so I called her a name that I’d rather not repeat.” The silence that fell rang in his ears before he leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “You can pull my shows next week if you want to. I wouldn’t blame you.”

Nikolina listened intently and furrowed her brows. “Caleb that is how girls are, sometiems we spend way too long on makeup. And that is not okay to say to a girl, especially one who’s so young. I’m disappointed in you,” she said, “It’s understandable that she would be upset, but violence is not the right answer.” Nikolina sat quietly before putting her hand on Caleb’s back. “I’m not going to pull all of your shows next week, how about just two? And I’ll have one of the swings go on so Madden doesn’t get extra shows. I’d also like for you to apologize, to both of them,” she said softly.

I’m older than thirty, which means old. Thanks Thayer, I appreciate your help and I’m sure she will too. Oh I’m very sorry, I forgot you’re a big star who’s on a world tour. So you’re saying that he’d just love to share a dressing room with you if we don’t have quite enough at a theater.

Yes we did go to Paris. We also went to London and Amsterdam.

Yeah, like climbing a mountain or– pranking Jagger every chance I get and watch as he gets confused on who’s doing it and how toothpaste got into his shampoo bottles.

Thirty-three, I’m thirty-three Thayer. I wouldn’t replace her, not unless something extremely bad happened, and I doubt it will ever come to that. Have you ever even climb a mountain? Oh and I bet he loves all of those pranks, I bet you’re his favorite person.

Caleb bit into his cheek, letting his flesh slowly escape his teeth. “I can’t promise anything,” Caleb said. Fiddling with a bracelet he had on.

Nikolina shifted her weight and folded her legs so that she was sitting with them criss-crossed. “I just want to hear your side of the story, before I make any more decisions about what to do. It would be unfair if I did not hear your side also.”

Caleb’s head dropped. He turned away from Nikolina and paced a few steps before turning back around. “Oh-kay,” he mumbled out. “But I have a feeling that this talk we’re going to have is more just you yelling at me and me sitting here and later crying in the shower after the show tonight.” Caleb sat on the stage, his favorite place in the world.

Nikolina sighed before beginning to speak again, “I’m not going to yell at you, I don’t like to yell.” she slowly took a few steps forward before sitting down next to Caleb. “I want to have a mature conversation about what happened, without name-calling or attitude.”
