"A Prince, whose Character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the Ruler of a free People."
Do you think Sauron took the ring to get engraved at Things Remembered himself? Or did someone else do it as a surprise for him?
“My mom painted this and said no one would like it. It’s her 2nd painting.”
“I painted somebody’s mom”
“Took a while and not perfect, but i painted the guy who painted the other guy’s mom”
“I painted the girl who painted the guy who painted the other guy’s mom who painted an egret”
“I painted the guy who painted the girl who painted the guy who painted the mom who painted a bird”
“When it sinks in that I stayed up most of the night to paint a meme for internet points…”
…And nobody thought to post other “branchs” of this chain? Yes, it’s ‘branchS’, plural, because apparently we also have these:
Bit wonky, but I painted the woman who painted the guy who painted the lady who painted the swan.
Bit shitty, but I painted the woman who painted the woman who painted the guy who painted the lady who painted the swan
I painted u/Shitty_WaterColour who painted the woman who painted the woman who painted the guy who painted the lady who painted the swan
I painted u/color_on_a_page who painted u/Shitty_WaterColour who painted the woman who painted the woman who painted the guy who painted someone’s mom who painted a swan
Oh well, here’s yet another layer
Another branch, starting from the girl with the white background:
Took an hour or so but I painted the girl who painted the guy who painted the other guys mom
I didn’t like how reddit treated the iPad guy so I painted the guy that painted the girl that who painted the guy who painted the other guys mom on my iPad.
Continue from OP’s branch:
I haven’t painted in two years and I’m glad for the inspiration!!
A painting of the guy who hasn’t painted in years painting the guy who painted the girl who painted the guy who painted the girl who painted the other girl who painted the guy who painted the other guys mom
Same ‘level’ as the one above:
Usually lurking but not today…plaid was a great challenge!

We painted the guy that painted the other guy who hadn’t painted in 2 years who painted the other guy who painted the girl that painted the guy who painted the girl that painted the guy that painted some guy’s mother who painted a swan whilst making them all an NPC in the process
Honorary mentioned:

The 2019 GRAMMY nominations are out, and we’ve learned that Prof. John Cox has been nominated for his singing on The Skylark Ensemble’s album Last Seven Words from the Cross. The album received nominations in two categories, “Best Choral Performance” and “Best Immersive Audio Album."
The Skylark Ensemble is a 16-member professional choir based in Boston, and Prof. Cox has been singing tenor with them for six years. He is a visiting assistant professor of music and serves as director of the Reed Chorus and Collegium Musicum. The GRAMMY awards winners are announced on February 10, 2019.

So excited to see my photos celebrating a great teacher and wonderful talent! Congrats to John Cox!

I love how baby boomers will talk about child-rearing like “I was beaten and repressed as a kid and turned out fine” and then like fifteen minutes later they’ll be like “A cashier at a clothing store wouldn’t take my expired coupon, this is a PERSONAL AFFRONT and you have to help me get them FIRED.”
Like. Are you sure you turned out fine, though? Cuz like. It seems like maybe you didn’t.
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
Omg the payoff for this post was incredible
So I totally feel awkward posting this especially since tonyno posted an awesome version of this before I did but because I already had this mostly done I though it’d be a waste to not post it so here it is! :D
I tried to emulate the style of the book itself but I dunno if that worked so lol w/e
I love my helmet.

I really needed to read this today. Thank you.

From sing-alongs with s'mores to the Singing Loudly Unto Reed (SLUR) gig to a Guilty Pleasures dance party, many voices were raised in festive tune and animated conversation during Reunions ‘17, June 7–11. More photos.

tomorrow is Earth Day. We’re making a mess of things.
Ellington acknowledged his debt to Cook noting that when he needed direction for developing a theme and asked Cook for advice, Cook told him, “You know you should go to the conservatory, but since you won’t I’ll tell you. First you find the logical way, and when you find it, avoid it, and let your inner self break through and guide you. Don’t try to be anybody but yourself.” Happily, Ellington followed this advice.

I was reading about Will Marion Cook, and this advice he gave to Duke Ellington is exactly good advice for many things - it is, in much better words, the advice I give people about writing comedy, or at least when I try to. I’m certain it makes sense for almost any creative pursuit. More on Will Marion Cook in this video, including his sound:

Summer Olympic Events For the Rest of Us, from Gemma Correll
Environmental studies–history major Esther Forbyn ’16 has a vision for engaging more Portlanders in the benefits of communing with nature and the conversation about global warming and loss of biodiversity. She sees an opportunity to take action by increasing access and inclusion for traditionally marginalized groups, like low-income residents and recent immigrants, through a new interest of hers: birdwatching.

This is so cool.
