The sheik of the order of Khalvati in Istanbul, Sunbul Efendi, looked for a successor. He sent out his disciples to bring flowers to adorn the monastery. All returned with great bouquets of the most beautiful flowers, only one, Merkez Efendi, brought a small wilted flower. Asked if he did not find anything worthy of his master he answered: "I saw that the flowers were engaged praising God. How could I disturb them? Only one had just finished its contemplating of God, and this is the one I brought." It was he who became Sunbul Efendi's successor.--Sufi legend
