Also, sorry for the big lore drop at the beginning lol
Gaborone 6 was one of the universeâs most popular interstellar cities.
It was located on one of the biggest known planets, in one of the biggest known galaxies, and had the largest population of EVERYTHING.
Humans came to Gaborone 6 after their home planet, Earth, was blown up by a eldritch monster that promptly ate the planet. The people brought with them their culture and their worker drones and built a small city, and everything was finally peaceful.
One day, the interspace transmitters picked up a hoard of objects coming straight for Gaborone 6. At first they thought they were asteroids. Then maybe missiles. As they got closer, they were revealed to be small Spider-Rockets. But no one could have prepared them for what was in those rockets.
As each rocket landed, the squad of murderous disassembly drones inside activated, and set to work terrorizing the city. The horrors that had ended humanity on Earth, had followed them here.
It was around 3071 that a group of disassembly drones for some reason turned against their own kind, protecting the remaining humans and worker drones and waging war against the remaining disassemblers. They won, leaving the humans in peace once more, and retreated to the shadows, away from the sunlight that threatened them, and left the humans alone.
Years later, a new threat appeared. Whoever had sent the disassemblers was not happy with their failure. A portal opened in the center of the city, and a whole new terror stepped through.
The humans and disassembly drones fought back their best, but the Reaper Drones were too powerful, and the they were forced into hiding, again. The Reapers spent their time hunting them downâ one by oneâ until their leader, RD-GR1RM1D0N, made a mistake.
He fell in love with one of the hiding disassembly drones, SD-M1SAK0, and they had a child.
Somewhere far away, a prophecy unfolded.Â
An ancient creature awakened.
The new generation of drones had a destiny no one could ever imagine.
Serial Designation LL0YDâs sensors whirred as he slowly came out of sleep mode, the familiar surroundings of his room coming into focus. It was a small room, with few decorations, but it was his own space, and it felt safe.
âRise and shine, Lloyd!â Called a cheerful voice.
Lloyd sighed and sat up, staring at himself in the mirror on the opposite wall. He was slightly short for a disassembly drone, and instead of the more common yellow lights, his eyes were green. He changed his hand into a comb and parted his hair to the side, then stood up and walked out into the living room.
âGood morning mom,â he said, planting himself on the couch.
Misako, Lloydâs mother, appeared out of the kitchen with a steaming bowl. Her hair was silvery and in a long braid down her back, and her yellow eyes danced joyfully as she observed her son. She placed the bowl down in front of him.
Lloyd began eating without really looking at what was in the bowl. He peered carefully at the kitchenâs closed drapes.
âDid the sun go down yet?â He asked anxiously.
Misako chuckled. âIts almost down, but you can head out if you stay in the shadows.â She ruffled his hair, and he shrugged away in annoyance. âI know you donât like being late for school.â
Lloyd finished his breakfast and pulled on his jacket as he headed for the door. âIâll see you later. Love you, mom!â
âLove you, too. Be careful of the sunlight!â
Lloyd smiled and gave her a thumbs up before walking out the door.
Outside was always interesting for Lloyd. If he got up early, like tonight, he could catch the last rays of sunlight, along with the last few humans still outside after the day. Some days, if he got out late, the Reapers were out and about. Lloyd always hid from them because they were frightening, but his mother always assured them that the Reapers didnât attack disassemblers. That was because Lloydâs father was the leader of the Reaper Drones and he didnât want his soldiers hurting his family.
Lloyd had a complicated relationship with his father. RD-GR1M1D0N was hardly ever home, and he was scary-looking, even in his non-hostile form. Lloyd loved him, but he never knew how his mother had fallen in love with him, and it frustrated him that his dad was never home. It also frustrated him that his dad had to be a Reaper Drone at all, because it made all the other disassemblers hate him.
Lloyd came to the edge of the street and had to duck his head to stay in the shadow of the buildings. His internal clock beeped, telling him he would be late if he didnât hurry. He ran across the street. Before he could stop himself, he ran face-first into a figure coming towards him around the corner.
Staggering backwards, Lloyd shook his head to clear it and stared at the person he had collided with.
âOh, robo-god!â Exclaimed Lloyd. He rushed forward to help, then stopped himself and stepped back. Humans still didnât like disassembly drones. âA-are you okay?â He stammered.
The human groaned and sat upright. âYes, Iâm alright,â he said. He squinted up at Lloyd, and suddenly his eyes widened and he scrambled backwards with a scream of terror.
Lloyd jumped backwards in fright, stumbling over the sidewalk and into the sunlight. He cried out in pain as the sun started burning him, and he crawled back into the shade, holding his arm and panting.
Lloyd leaned against the wall and groaned as his vision glitched for a moment, but the burn began healing quickly. He shifted around inside his mind and ran a diagnostic on the damage.
âYou didnât kill me,â said a confused voice.
âWhat?â Lloyd looked up, peering through the various messages in his vision. The human boy was still sitting on the ground. âOh! No! I would never kill anyone!â
The boy raised an eyebrow, then stood up and approached Lloyd cautiously. âAre you okay?â
Lloyd closed all the tabs in his vision. âIâm alright,â he answered. âI should ask you that. You collided with like a hundred pounds of machinery.â
The boy chuckled a little bit. âWhy were you running? I thought the Reapers left disassembly drones alone for some reason.â
âIâm late to school,â explained Lloyd. He checked his clock. Very late already. He sighed. What was a few more minutes? âYou should get somewhere safe,â he said. âWant me to help take you somewhere?â
The boy looked somewhat suspicious, but he slowly nodded.
Lloyd climbed to his feet. âDid you have somewhere you were going, or do you need a hiding spot?â
The boy seemed to consider the question for a minute. âI donât have any family left,â he said quietly. âI just need somewhere to hide for the night.â
Lloyd felt a pang of sadness for this boy. Who knows what kinds of horrors he had went through.
âI know a spot the Reapers never go,â he said. âIts kind of far though. I would have to fly you.â
The boy looked hopeful. âAnywhere.â
Lloyd stood in thought for a moment, staring at the sky. The sun had finally set. And what was a few more minutes? Nobody liked him anyways, except his few friends. They would cover for him if need be.
Lloyd deployed his wings, startling the boy.
âWhatever you do, donât scream,â he commanded. âThe Reapers are attracted to sounds of distress.â
Lloyd bounced forward and grabbed the boy gently around the waist and jumped into the air.
