Chapter 3 of Ninjadrones: A Murder Drones AU/ninjago crossover part 2

Zane:

Zane got up and punched the wall in frustration. He had no idea how a drone worked. But they weren’t people. They were robots. So there HAD to be a way to fix Lloyd! Maybe if he fixed him he could have a friend, and he didn’t have to spend his life hidng in terror all the time.

A quiet whirring noise filled the room, and Zane spun around. What he saw made him gasp with shock and confusion. Lloyd’s body was levitating in the air, with green light swirling all around him like magic, and his wings grew back with a mechanical warble. Lloyd eyes flashed green several times, and then he suddenly fell to the floor again, his face blinking the word, “Rebooting…”

“Lloyd…?” Asked Zane cautiously.  He took a step forward.

Suddenly Lloyd’s body spasmed and he sat up with a yelp of fright. His healed wings pinwheeled out of control and he slammed into the wall, which caved in from the force.

“Lloyd!” Cried Zane. “Its okay! Calm down!!”

Lloyd staggered to his feet and stared at Zane, panting. His eye glitched red, and Zane took a step backward.

“L-Loyd?” He whispered in fear.

Lloyd’s vision was flashing red with terror messages so that he couldn’t see clearly. There was a figure standing several feet from him. He couldn’t see who, or what, it was. He spread his wings and raised his tail threateningly.

“…Who are you?” He demanded.

“I-I’m Zane,” stammered a young voice.

“Zane!!” Lloyd exclaimed, retracting his wings. He rushed forward and pulled the startled Zane into a hug. “You’re okay!”

Zane chuckled a little. “Why wouldn’t I be?” He said. “I’ve survived this long, haven’t I?”

Lloyd let Zane go and took a step back. “I was worried you wouldn’t listen to me and the Reaper would find you again.”

“Well, you were right about the first thing,” said Zane bashfully.

Chapter 3 of Ninjadrones: A Murder Drones AU/ninjago crossover part 1

The last thing Lloyd saw before hitting the ground was Zane’s horrified face peering over the side of the building. Then he felt a painful impact and his vision fizzled into blackness.

But he was still aware.

He could not talk, he could not move, and he could not see, yet he could think almost as clearly as if he were awake. He found himself wondering if Zane would listen and run, or if he would stay and try to help him. Lloyd felt a pang of alarm. He had only known Zane a few minutes, but he seemed different than most humans. He seemed like someone who would sacrifice his own safety to try and help another.

Lloyd thought he saw a flash of light, and he jerked his head to look at it. Then he gave a gasp of surprise. He could move!

Lloyd turned around in a circle. He was standing on something solid, but he could see nothing. He began to wonder if he was blind.

“Lloyd,” said a deep voice.

Lloyd gasped softly. As the voice echoed slowly around the void, a small golden light blinked on in front of him, slowly throbbing and shining light like sun’s rays around him. 

“What… are you?” Whispers Lloyd.

“I am the light, and the darkness,” said the voice,, and the light throbbed in sync with the words. “I am the first spinjitzu master. I created this world, and I see it is now in danger. I’ve been watching you, Serial Designation Lloyd. You are a special drone. I saw what you did for the human boy, and of your own accord.”

Lloyd blinked slowly, trying to decide if this was some kind of dream, or an error in his programming. Nothing made sense, and he began to feel frightened.

Tendrils of gold and green slowly sprouted from the ball of light and snaked through the empty air towards Lloyd.

“I have chosen you,” said the voice softly, and the tendrils passed through Lloyd’s chest and swirled around him.

“C-chose me for what?” Lloyd stammered.

“Long I have waited to choose the green ninja,” said the voice. “The world is in peril, and I have chosen you. You now have the power to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Go, and use it wisely.”

“But why me!” Cried Lloyd desperately.

The glowing tendrils around him began spinning faster, turning bright green and glowing brighter and brighter until Lloyd had to cover his eyes. With a whoosh, they suddenly all shot away with a burst of green light and plunged into Lloyd’s chest. Lloyd screamed with pain as the energy filled his body.

Chapter 2 of Ninjadrones: A Murder Drones AU/ninjago crossover part 2

Zane rushed down the stairway of the abandoned building and out onto the street. He peered frantically through the darkness, his mind whirling with Reaper Drones and the memory of Lloyd plummeting to his death.

Spotting  something white a few yards away, Zane rushed towards it. As he approached, he suddenly stopped with a gasp.

Lloyd was laying in a small crater caused by the impact of him hitting the ground. His arm was bent at an unnatural angle, and his broken wing had punched through his side. across his face was two words flashing in bright red.

Fatal Error.

“No,” cried Zane softly. He jumped as something clattered a few blocks away.

Making a hasty decision, Zane grabbed Lloyd’s leg and began dragging him back to the building.

Once inside, Zane dropped Lloyd’s leg and rushed to slam the door. Panting from exertion, he ran over to a tall cabinet near the door and pushed against it until it settles in front of the door, blocking it. Then he turned and fell to his knees at his friend’s side.

“Come on, Lloyd,” muttered Zane, clenching his teeth to keep the tears back. “There has to be some way to fix you.”

“Okay,” said Lloyd nervously. “Maybe he didn’t see you?”

Suddenly, with a frightening screech, the Reaper Drone burst from the mist, heading straight for Lloyd and Zane.

“OH, CRAP!” Exclaimed Lloyd, twisting out of the way just in time. He slammed to a halt and beat his wings to stay in the sky, looking around in fear.

“Is- is he gone?” Zane asked nervously.

“I can’t see him,” said Lloyd. “Maybe he was just—“

Lloyd was cut off as something crashed into him from above. He cried out as his wing was bent at an unnatural angle. He lost his grip on Zane and began plummeting, down, down, down…

“Lloyd!!!” Screamed Zane, reaching towards his new friend.

Lloyd popped his wing back into place and dove for the boy, gritting his teeth against the pain. Just as he reached Zane, a hand reached out and caught him by the collar. He slammed to a halt so fast he was temporarily stunned.

“I’m a she,” snapped the Reaper Drone. She grinned evilly as she peered down at her two captives. “Oooh, a disassembler AND a human, in the same night. How lucky.”

“You aren’t supposed to attack disassemblers!” Cried Lloyd, grabbing blindly at the bigger drone’s arm.

“Oh!” Said the Reaper Drone. “i didn’t realize that. Oh my. I’ll just have to drop you then.”

The Reaper’s tail came around and chopped Lloyd’s wings off. Lloyd shrieked in pain, and the Reaper let go of him.

Before he could fall, Lloyd turned his hands into claws and grabbed onto the Reaper’s leg.

“You leave him alone!” He shouted, clenching his teeth as oil poured out of his back.

The Reaper looked annoyed. “Oh, so you’re one of those. I haven’t time for this today. I have a quota to fill.” She changed her arm into an energy cannon and pointed it at Lloyd.

Lloyd wrapped his tail around her leg, and just as she fired, he let go and swung by his tail around behind her and landed on her back. He dug his claws into her neck as she cried out in fury.

“LET HIM GO!!!” He screamed, tearing at her wings. His eyes flickered between their usual green and a red X.

“Lloyd!” Choked Zane weakly.

Lloyd’s head snapped up, and he saw that the Reaper was holding his neck so hard it was choking him. With a yell, he jumped over the Reaper’s head, changing one of his ams into a sword, and as he came down he sliced off the arm that was clutching Zane. As the Reaper blundered around in pain and confusion, Lloyd and Zane began plummeting.

“We’re gonna die!” Shouted Zane.

“No, you are not!” Cried Lloyd. “Now you listen to me! We were almost there. When I get you down on the ground, I want you to head for that tower and don’t look back!” He reached forward and grabbed Zane by the shoulders. “Do you understand me?”

“Where are you going?” Asked Zane fearfully.

Lloyd smiled softly at him, just as the top of the nearest building rushed past. Lloyd took of hold of Zanes arms, spun around, and with a mighty heave threw him sideways across the soft grassy lawn of a rooftop garden.

“NO!!” Cried Zane. He landed with a grunt and scrambled towards the edge. He gasped with horror as Lloyd crashed onto the concrete several stories below, and laid still.

Chapter 1 of Ninjadrones: A Murder Drones AU/ninjago crossover part 2

The boy held on to Lloyd’s shoulders painfully tight as the two soared through the rapidly darkening night.

“Oh my goodness,” gasped the boy, his face paling. “That’s a LONG way down.”

Lloyd adjusted so that he had a better grip on his companion.

The wind rushed past them in a steady roar, tugging at Lloyd’s jacket. Neon lights from the lower levels of Gaborone 6 flickered on one by one, painting the streets in shifting colors of violet and electric blue. From above, the city looked almost peaceful— like a circuit board glowing softly in the dark.

Lloyd angled his wings, catching a current of warmer air rising between two towering buildings. His internal stabilizers hummed as he adjusted their balance mid-flight. He was careful not to fly too high, but not too low. The Reapers preferred the open sky for flying, but they hid in the shadows of the city, and if he flew too low, they could take him by surprise.

Lloyd shivered at the thought.

“Are you doing okay?” He asked the boy, peering down at the boy’s blonde haired head.

The boy glanced up at him, and Lloyd saw that he was smiling, just the tiniest bit. Lloyd smiled softly back at him. This boy had probably been through horrors- yet he smiled in such a soft, innocent way as he took in the breathtaking view of the sparkling city.

“What’s your name?” He asked quietly.

The boy looked up at Lloyd again. “Zane.”

“Zane,” Lloyd repeated. “I like that.” He caught himself hugging Zane to his chest and loosened his grip a little bit. “My name is Lloyd.”

Lloyd felt Zane relax slightly as they neared the edge of the busy part of the city. This was the dangerous part. Reapers were all over the city, but they were more numerous at the edges, where not as many people lived and it was darker. 

With a beat of his wings, Lloyd swooped up a little higher, his tail flipping around behind him as he banked to the side.

“Um, L-Lloyd?” Whispered Zane.

Lloyd felt a pang of alarm as he heard a tremor of fear in the boy’s voice. “What??”

Zane pointed downwards, where a single red X shone up at them through the mist.
