The Original Concept Art for N in Pokemon Black & White is terrifying

An interview with Pokemon illustrator/designer Ken Sugimori revealed some details about how the characters in the 5th generation games came to be. Pokemon co-creator Junichi Masuda was tasked with creating a genius character with an androgynous appearance. Early drafts of his design featured a sinister snear, but N’s image was later toned down to make him less creepy.  This was likely done so that players would be more sympathetic to him and his ideas. The artists went through several different designs for N before arriving at his final appearance with his signature flowing green hair.
