CONEY ISLAND, by NISHCHAL AGARWAL. Columbia University GSAPP Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States before WWII, attracting several million visitors per year. At its peak, it contained three competing major amusement parks, Luna Park, Dreamland, and Steeplechase Park, as well as many independent amusements.

LANDUSE- Built environment next to the site, important because of wider viewshed and enables us to understand the larger landuse.
CONTOURS- Being a waterfront, contours give us a great idea of the topography of the area.
SUBWAY- Subway system brings New Yorkers right to the Island, where they can enjoy beach and sunshine.
RAILROAD- Being an important tourist destination, train brings people from all over the country and has a major station right outside Coney Island.
ROADBED- Accessibility to the site through cars.
PEDESTRIAN- Allows us to study the accessibility of the site from immediate surroundings.
LAND_WATER- Important because the site is an oceanfront.
HISTORIC MAP- Coney Island was the world’s first destination for theme parks dating back to yr 1900.
