Max typically drank teas, but today he was feeling a little homesick. He was finally able to finish what he started all those years ago, but now that he had to commit to putting his plan in motion. Thoughts of his Step-Father were brought to the forefront of his mind. He drank his Champurrado slowly; his Step-Father’s favorite drink. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but he heard the woman’s words. “It’s strange how a drink can do that,” he responded.
The young man looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite place where she knew his face from. She set her mug down, “Taste and smell are closely linked to memory. I worked with a woman who would treat her patients by using pensieve therapy by triggering memories using scent. We all used to say ‘Cieli? No dispara un chicharo’ that she was lazy, but her client list was a mile long.” Truthfully, Cieli was a very talented witch and Nissa had often been jealous of the connection she was able to make with her patients. Nissa just had a hard time biting her tongue, she often spoke her mind and ended up paying for it. “Your face. I know it. Why?”

Cole had never been to the cafe, as he was so often with his siblings. But, for the moment, they were both at school, and he thought perhaps it may be a nice quiet place to work. He’d just settled down with his tea, which he left to the side, entirely ignored as it was far too hot for his taste, when he heard her voice. “Oh, um,” he pauses, unsure what to say. Was he meant to say anything? “I-I’ve never been here before,” the English man says, “Is-is it good? I, um, I tend to find, uh, most teas too, uh, too hot initially,” he notes softly. He realises, just after saying it, of course, that he could just make it colder if he wanted.
She looked the boy up and down, “Who is to say what is good, what is bad? We all have our taste and preference.” She clicked her teeth, “For instance, I prefer silence. However, I made a fool mistake of speaking in a public place.” Her thick cuban accent was laden with venom, but her smile was enticing. Nissa liked to walk the line between flirtatious and caustic, it made life more like a game. She took another sip of her beverage, “Tell me, why order something hot, if you do not intend to burn off your tongue?”
Nissa angrily sucked the hot liquid through her teeth. Yet another client had canceled last minute on her; the third one this week. This generation had no clue how rude they could be. Nissa worked hard, and she always packed her schedule as tight as possible. She had to make rent somehow. But she was trying to see this cancelation as an opportunity; a moment to enjoy herself. The Healer hadn’t been to Witches Brew in ages, and she had an appointment in the Financial District in an hour. It seemed like a practical place to kill time. She closed her eyes as the tea latte coated her tongue with sweet cinnamon and and spicy clove, “Tastes like home.”
