“The Mark of a Captain”

My biggest embroidery project so far, I think. Based on the character Pyanfar Chanur from CJ Cherryh’s great series that I just read, and have been completely obsessed with.

I wanted to practice fur texture and start working on making metals and shading, so who better than a Hani with her earrings? Pretty pleased with how it turned out, I think I stretched the fabric a bit much and as such the background is pretty warped. I made the stars in an approximation of the shape of compact space, with Pyanfar’s big ol’ pearl earring in the place of Anuurn. Felt right.

Took about two weeks of on-off sewing after work.

I love working on a big embroidery and being able to feel how soft it gets as the space fills up with floss. Little WIP of the first big project I’ve worked on in ages.

I started reading the Chanur series by CJ Cherryh and needless to say I’m obsessed and it’s the only thing keeping me alive right now.

Would highly recommend it to anyone into Hayven Celestia, has much of the same building blocks. I think my favorite part is the convoluted political plotting.

There’s criminally little fanart of the characters and world of Compact Space, working on changing that.

New OC I’m workin on, a Sourang technician who works on a free/refugee station. I kinda want to move away from the xenophobia of other sourang and have this guy use his abilities to get to know the other species on the station. I like the idea of him coming in as a younger guy and becoming a melting pot of other cultures on the station. Got a lot of short story ideas in this vein that I’m workin on.

I watched The Movie and combined it with my current obsession! A Hayven-Celestia themed Spider-Sona. Came up with some fun ideas, might develop the idea a bit more, we’ll see!

Some more sourang art of my OC! I have a huge cardboard box I cut into pieces and draw on when I get drunk. I love drawing piercings in big ol ears.

Sourang! Embroidery I made a few months ago of an OC from my current fixation. Was still working out drawing their faces, and again doing satin stitch and making things look more like fur. Still majorly obsessed with these guys so expect to see more
