24/10/2012 Some People Seem More Naked When They're Dressed
Some people seem more naked when they're dressed. Superheroes show off more of themselves in they're superhero suits. Superman may just be Clark Kent in the regular life, but in his suit he is more exposed. He is known to the world when saving cities and towns. Â Bruce Wayne may just be the richest man on earth, so thats pretty exposed, but everyone knows and talks about Batman all day long in Gotham city. You get to know people better by their actions than by how they really seem. Superheroes are examples of people who are doing the correct thing just to feel good about themselves and get a different perspective in life than their regular life. I hope they were real.
Motif: Sex
1. Is the motif a noun? verb? adjective?
A motif is the action or idea of an author in the story as it goes. It can depend on what it is, it can sometimes be a noun, verb or adjective.
2. How does it come up in the novel, and how does it impact what is going on? What happens immediately preceding or immediately following a mention or discussion of this motif?
Sex impacts the story since he uses words related to sex to explain other things in life, such as selling your work out just for money. He uses prostitute as a word to explain what is happening to his brother and his brilliant work.
3. What is the mood when this idea or thing is brought up? Would you associate this with times when Holden is content? frightened? frantic? confused? Is this mood consistent with every incidence of this motif?
Sex is a theme brought up because a big part of the story Holden is trying to lose his virginity. Sometimes Holden talks about sex in an respectful way for the reader. I think Holden thinks of sex as an action only for people who really like each other. This mood is not consistent with every incident of this motif. 4. Is Holden alone when this motif occurs? If not, with whom is he interacting? How would you characterize that interaction? Does this motif occur both when he is alone and when he is with other people? Is there a connection to be made?
He thinks in Jane because Holden knows her really well and he doesn´t really knows the guy she dates so Holden, in his opinion should be having sex with her instead. 5. What does this motif tell you about Holden, in a âbig pictureâ way - Does this suggest anything about his personality? His weaknesses or strengths? His sense of himself?
He is egre to have sex and his personality changes when he talks about it in the novel. 6. Tie it all together: Did any pattern emerge? Pick out other words or ideas used in conjunction with this motif. Look back on your investigation and come up with a single sentence that sums up what youâve discovered. Write three or four more sentences supporting your thesis sentence. Use references from the novel, and form an opinion of your own.
Holden is a virgin who wants to lose his virginity. In my opinion he should live his regular life and when the time comes when he cares about someone that much and both want to do it, have sex. I think he should not act like the character in Speak, Andy Evans and rape people just to have these kinds of relaitons
Catcher in the Rye Quote
"She didn´t look any dope to me" chapter 8.Â
This looks dope to me.
Solution
I like thinking of how I figure out problems on my own and with others. Solutions are awensers like on a math or english or history test. Solution are a good thing.
Stream of Consciousness / Monster
Once there was a princess, she was beautiful and had great blond hair. Her hair was at least 8 feet long when she was three years old. Her name was Rapunzel. By the time she was five she got extremely popular for her hair since it was so long and gorgeous. Every single other child was jealous. One day, the day of her birthday to be exact she got kidnapped by a old wizard. This wizard was not the regular witch you'd see everyday, he was a small monster. he had four legs, a pair of wings and a tail. He breathed out fire when he wanted to from his tiny and pointy head. He was little but he had the brain of amad scientist willing to do whatever he could do so things would go his way.
"Just the Way I Liked It"
Holden`s red hunting hat simbolizes his style even if it doesn`t look good. He does not care as long as it represents him. Holden bought the hat in New York after he pissed of his entire fencing team and through his equipment away. When he has his hat on, he gains confidence. He only puts it on at important times. A quote were they mention the hat is: "...but it was freezing cold and I took my red hunting hat out of my pocket and put it on, I didnât give a damn how I looked", chapter three.
"Catcher in the Rye" Questions
What is the difference between conforming and being a phony?
Conforming is following rules of the government because you accept them, being a phony is just following rules of society to make people like you and accept you in the comunity.
I think Holden is a fraud because he gets kicked out of school and doesn´t tell his parents. he lives on the streets instead.Â
"The Catcher and the Rye" Quote
" We always had the same meal Saturday nights at Pencey. It was suposed to be a big deal, because they gave you stake. "Â Narrator, Holden
