The war between the Guild and Port Mafia were over and Yokahama was safe. The rest of the agency members had left the office to go home except for Kunikida and Dazai.
“Dazai, there is something I need to speak to you about.”
During the war, he had found out that Dazai used to work in the mafia, something that he never knew but apparently everyone else did. When Dazai first came to the agency, he was aware of that Dazai was not someone that he said he was and that his past was a huge mystery. He was at first suspicious but over time, he could see that Dazai was, in fact, someone who wanted to do good and save people. The two ended up being partners for most missions and worked together very well, however, despite that, there was still so much that he did not know about Dazai. However, he never pushed the man to share his secrets. He hoped that one day when Dazai would trust him enough to tell him. So when he learned that everyone knew that Dazai used to work in the mafia except him, it surprised and also hurt him a little. He told himself that the reason why he didn’t know was because he never asked just as Dazai said. He had no idea how the other members knew. Maybe they accidentally found out, maybe they ask him or maybe he just told them. He didn’t know for sure. However, after he found out, he had many questions that he was going to ask him.
“So… you used to work in the mafia. I highly doubt the mafia let you quit and change sides which meant you left them. What made you risk so much to leave them and decided to work for the agency instead?”
He decided to start with that question first.
Dazai just leaned his head back on sofa hearing other talk to him, before small sigh escaped him. Was it wrong that he suspected it would happen when Kunikida found out about his mafioso career. There was much more against admitting the truth, which was reason for him to find out last. Trust issues, judging of all his past mistakes, loosing cooperation. Whole thing would even distance them further. Show that they’re complete opposites - ex-mafioso and someone following all morals. It would be great if this wouldn’t surface yet, but it had to came out sooner or later.
If it wasn’t for experience in hiding emotions, there’d be pain in his expression hearing the question. What made him leave? Death and wish of his dearest friend. Not the best note to start it off, especially if other would dig deeper into who Odasaku was. Goofy smile appeared on his face to cover all worries up, before correcting his position and supposedly answering his partner what he wanted.
“ And what if I told you no one would risk stopping me? I had free hand to mostly do anything I wanted, I was quite high in hierarchy. Besides if there was something that I wasn’t allowed to do, I’d find a way to make them agree. “ Of course other would notice lack of answer to the question, but he didn’t want to reply to it. Not now at least.
“ So, you just waited to ask me about my past? Shouldn’t we leave this behind? I’m a good person now! “
